Being Born an Alien in Denmark: Identification of Young People Born in Denmark without Danish Citizenship: A Research Brief
Denmark is home to thousands of young people who were born or raised in the country but do not possess Danish citizenship. Despite growing up in Danish society, attending local schools and speaking the language, many face a long and complex application process to obtain citizenship once they turn 18. The bureaucratic barriers and restrictions related to the naturalisation process affect their legal rights and political participation and, more profoundly, impinge on their identification process. While many of these individuals feel Danish, they remain uncertain about whether Danish society fully accepts them as so. For some, citizenship is merely a means to obtain equal rights, while others feel incomplete without legal recognition. This research brief examines how Danish citizenship regulations and the perception of what it means to be Danish shape young people’s self-identification. Through in-depth interviews with individuals born and/or raised in Denmark, the brief sheds light on the lived experiences of people navigating Danish naturalisation process, urging for a re-evaluation of the policies that impact their sense of belonging

Activists’ Role in the Creation of Möllevången as a Space for Superdiversity: Revisiting Malmö\u27s Activist Scene in Light of Solidarity with Palestine
This texts revisit some of the observations that I made in my dissertation, focusing specifically on the relation between superdiversity and the reality of political activism today. After a period of declining activity, the Palestinian solidarity movement that emerged in the fall of 2023 has had a major impact, both politically and physically, on Malmö’s activist scene. The movement illustrates how conditions of superdiversity, within a city and within a protest movement, can facilitate unity and solidarity as well as generate challenges, tension, and conflict
Embodiment and aesthetics in teaching and examinations: Potentials for higher education
In a democratic society, knowledge and research grounding play central roles. To support students\u27 learning, it is necessary for teachers to be able to motivate and create challenging and stimulating learning opportunities. Questions regarding academic literacy often lack embodied and aesthetic perspectives (Carlgren, 2015), leading to challenges in bridging the gap between knowledge and teaching. Studies have shown that traditionally academic teaching methods and dualistic conceptions of learning can be identified within certain higher education contexts (Pastorek et al., 2021; Østern et al., 2021). The aim of this paper is to highlight and discuss the potential of embodiment and aesthetics in teaching and examinations in higher education. To enhance student engagement, a more holistic approach to education is required, where individuals are touched and given space in various ways (Østern, et al., 2019). By paying attention to students\u27 bodily communication, contact, and presence, the quality of the learning processes can improve (Winther, 2018). Based on research in preschool teacher education (Pastorek et al., 2021), a picture emerges where academic values, such as writing and speaking, take up a significant space in content, goals, and assessments at the expense of aesthetic and bodily perspectives. Instead, embodiment and aesthetic perspectives on knowledge and knowledge production in higher education can be a contribution to varied forms of teaching and examinations and a way to further develop in the discussion around Artificial Intelligence (AI).I ett demokratiskt samhälle spelar kunskap och forskning centrala roller.
Cooperation between civil society and the public sector have long played a central role in migrants’ integration. This text explores what that relation has been like in the past, in the present, and what it might look like in the future, based on an interview with Mikael Johansson, representative of the umbrella organization Malmö ideella. While the text’s main focus is relations within the city of Malmö, the discussion is broadened to encompass more general conditions in contemporary Sweden
The Gatekeeping Role of Mathematics Education in Migration Contexts – A Visit to Malmö: Three Snapshots to Illustrate the Opening or Closing of the Gate to Mathematics Learning
The text discusses the gatekeeping role of mathematics education for youth in Malmö (and elsewhere) with immigrant backgrounds. The text argues that mathematics education may play a significant role as a gatekeeper for immigrant students’ advancements in the educational system as well as in the society at large
The problem of authority in the supervision process
In this essay I reflect on the problem of authority in the doctoral supervision process. I define the supervisor-student relationship in terms of virtue, rather than power. I further argue for a hierarchical teacher-student relationship as it leads to unambiguous role expectations. It is the role of the supervisor to prepare, guide and teach the doctoral student how to take on the academic world and become a good scientist. This is best done by a hierarchical teacher-student relationship, with clear roles and responsibilities, where the student accepts the authority of the supervisor.I denna essä reflekterar jag över auktoritetsproblematik i doktorandhandledning.

Postcards from Rosengård: An Invitation to Reflect on Migration, Integration and Identity in a Malmö Neighbourhood
This work was produced by a student group of the RePIC (Re-Designing the Post-Industrial City) master program as part of a City Lab on Migration and Super-diversity, held in Malmö in September 2024. Whether through observation, dialogue, or the creation of visual narratives, we approached each part of the process with the belief that every detail—no matter how small—contributes to the bigger picture. By addressing themes such as migration, integration, and identity in Rosengård, we as a team hope to bring attention to ongoing discussions relevant to this neighbourhood, and to the global conversations about cities and super-diversity. Our showcased work is not a solution but an invitation to reflect on the complexities we observed. We hope to contribute to a deeper understanding of the spaces and people we studied. RePIC is a joint master program by the universities that form the UNIC European University Alliance
