ONLINE LEARNING EXPERIENCES OF ENGINEERING STUDENTS IN THE POST-PANDEMIC PERSPECTIVE: 10.24250/jpe/Vol.32/1/2023/LP
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a crisis that has critically affected higher education institutions. With the sudden shift to emergency remote education during the pandemic, students’ online experiences have become a growing concern among teachers. This study aims to gain insights into students’ experiences of online activities in a hybrid learning approach. A total of 80 students enrolled in undergraduate programs at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, responded to an open-ended online questionnaire. This study used the content analysis to find out the positive and negative experiences in online learning, the preference for continuing instruction in a certain format and the reason for choice. The results showed that students' resources and skills played an important role in terms of positive or negative study experiences: cost and time effectiveness, easy access to many study materials and good distance learning skills helped to cope with this pandemic, while little or no interaction with colleagues and teachers and too many hours on screen caused difficulties and dissatisfaction among other students. Despite these issues, most students are interested in continuing their online instruction, but also face-to-face or hybrid activities. This study can provide recommendations derived from the interpretation of participant feedback for improvements in future online learning experiences
INFLUENCE OF PEER PRESSURE ON ADOLESCENTS’ MISBEHAVIOUR AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OSOGBO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF OSUN STATE: 10.24250/jpe/Vol.32/1/2023/AOA
Abstract
The continuous students’ misbehaviour necessitates careful consideration because there are several different pressures leading to adolescent misbehaviour at school. One of the contributing factors is peer pressure among students. This study therefore, identifies that there is need to investigate the influence of peer pressure on adolescents’ misbehavior among secondary school students. A sample of two hundred (200) students from ten (10) secondary schools (5 public and 5 private) were randomly selected from Oshogbo Local Government Area of Osun State in Nigeria. An instrument titled Peer Pressure and Adolescent Misbehaviour Questionnaire (PPAMQ) was used for data collection. The results showed that adolescent misbehaviour is prevalent among secondary school students and peer group negatively influence adolescent misbehavior. Statistically there was no significant difference on the influence of peer pressure on adolescents’ misbehavior based on school type and gender. (t = 2.06, df = 198, p < 0.05) and (t = 2.06, df = 198, p < 0.05). Within the limitations of the findings of this study, it is hereby recommended that school counsellors need to understand: adolescents’ misbehaviour in the context of school type, in order to reduce the rate of adolescents’ misbehaviour in school. Students should also be educated on the negative implications of adolescent misbehaviour and strict disciplinary measures should be meted out to students identified with adolescent misbehaviour.
EXPLORING THE PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF CHATGPT:A QUALITATIVE STUDY: 10.24250/jpe/Vol.32/1/2023/DR/GR
As chatbots become increasingly prevalent in our daily lives, it is important to consider their psychological implications. In this qualitative study, we conducted a focus group with 10 psychology students who had experience interacting with chatbots. Participants discussed their emotional responses, attitudes, and behaviors related to chatbots, as well as ethical concerns. Thematic analysis revealed four main themes: (1) convenience and efficiency, (2) frustration and dissatisfaction, (3) social and emotional connections, and (4) ethical considerations. The findings suggest that chatbots can provide convenience and efficiency, but may also lead to frustration and dissatisfaction when they are unable to meet users' needs. Additionally, participants reported feeling a sense of social and emotional connection with chatbots, and expressed concerns about ethical issues such as data privacy and the potential for chatbots to replace human interaction. These findings have implications for the design and implementation of chatbots, as well as for ethical considerations in their use
THE FORMATION OF SELF-IMAGE OF PRIMARY CLASS STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF RECEPTION OF THE LITERARY TEXT (ANALYSIS OF THE CONTROL EXPERIMENT): 10.24250/jpe/2/2023/ERI/
This article presents the analysis of the control experiment, reflected in the test applied to third and fourth grade students in the Republic of Moldova and in Romania, in the framework of research on the formation of the self-image of primary school students in the process of receiving the literary text. Following the completion of the optional discipline "Read and know yourself!", through which the formation of the students' self-image was pursued through literary texts, the students from two grades of third and fourth, each from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, completed a test with items based on a literary text, with answers aimed at the level of reception of the reproductive, productive or creative literary text, in order to identify the level of reception of the prevailing literary text. Comparative analyses were made between the results obtained in the ascertainment experiment and the control experiment, as well as between the results obtained by each individual student, demonstrating their evolution in terms of self-image formation. The use of literaryartistic education, respecting its own methods and principles through the optional discipline resulted in the formation of a positive self-image in students. The results of the pedagogical experiment allow the finding that the level of self-image formation of the students in the experimental classes increased considerably in relation to the level of the self-image formation of the students in the control classes. This confirms the validity of the research hypothesis as well as the effectiveness of the methodology of forming the students' self-image in the process of receiving the literary text.
The study movement games in physical education class with primary school students
Movement games used both with technical elements from handball in physical education lessons with primary school children will manage to optimize the instructional-educational process and consequently will favor the faster and quality acquisition of skills and motor skills, the development of morpho- functional and basic motor skills of students. The purpose of the research it is the optimization of the physical education teaching process by using movement games with technical handball elements in physical education lessons with primary school students. The objective is to argue and experimentally verify the effectiveness of the methodology regarding the use of movement games with technical handball elements within physical education lessons with primary school students. The basic direction of the research was the learning of some elements and procedures from the game of handball through movement games, adapted to the psychomotor peculiarities of the age of students from the 4th grade (10-11 years). The independent variable, used in the experimental group, was the introduction, within the thematic planning, of handball elements in the form of movement games
THE VERSATILITY OF THE MEANINGS OF CONTINUITY: 10.24250/jpe/Vol.32/1/2023/VP
In the article “Versality of the meanings of continuity” a selective presentation of the phenomenon of the continuity of modern debates on the functional character of education is made. The scientific crossing of the concept of continuity in pedagogy, in search of its applicative essence, generates a vision that includes as much of the space of the respective phenomenon as possible. Approaching the problem in the title, we do not have a polemical intention in mind, but we want to show why we need to return to this problem, which is actually not a new one. The phenomenon of continuity is examined from various perspectives, from which the idea of a complex process emerges, namely: connection, system, principle, process, legitimacy, requirements, conditions, factors, functions. In order to illustrate some dimensions of continuity in learning, a complex pedagogical experiment was carried out, from which we present a sequence aimed at the initial level of development of children's specific formations within preschool education, based on a technological ensemble of the functionality of integrity - continuity
THE IMPACT OF THE NEW TEACHING STRATEGY ON COMMUNICATION IN THE TEACHING OF NATURE AND SOCIETY: 10.24250/jpe/SI/2023/IN/SS/FPS/
The interdisciplinary nature and society teaching provides the teacher with many opportunities in the selection and application of different forms and forms of communication during the teaching process. Depending on the content of learning, the goal and tasks of teaching that we plan to accomplish during the lesson, methods and forms of work, we can plan different forms of communication in teaching. In order to be able to talk about the forms of communication in the teaching of nature and society, we must first know what constitutes teaching communication and what are its basic elements. Social changes in the 21st century require new competencies, and a special emphasis is placed on learning to learn, that is, the development of learning strategies that will equip young people for life and enable their further development through lifelong learning. Since communication is a complex, circular process, in order to better understand it, we must analyze its basic components. A simple communication model consists of the source or sender of the message, the message or the content of the message, the channel or medium for transmitting the message, and finally the recipient as the final destination of the communication process. These four components influence each other in such a way that from the content of the message, the recipient or the medium through which the message is sent, we adapt the other components in order to convey the message in the most effective way
PREDICTIVE ESTIMATE OF OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE AND SELF-EFFICACY ON EARLY YEARS TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION OF HANDS-ON MATERIALS FOR CLASSROOM TEACHING IN LAGOS, NIGERIA: 10.24250/jpe/2/2023/OSS/LIE/
The study was carried out to examine the predictive estimate of openness to experience and self-efficacy on early years teachers’ perception of hands-on materials for classroom teaching in Lagos, Nigeria. The participants in the research were all the public and private elementary schools teachers in Lagos however snowball non-probability the sampling method was adopted to select 150 elementary school teachers as the sample. Three instruments titled Hands-on Materials Utilization Questionnaire (HOMUQ), Openness to Experience Questionnaire (OEQ) and Teacher Self-Efficacy Rating Scales (TSERS) were used to gather the needed data. Six research questions were raised while three null hypotheses were formulated. While the inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation Statistic (PPMC) and T-test were employed to test the null hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance, the descriptive statistics of frequency count, percentage, mean, and mean rank were utilized to answer the research questions. The findings of this investigation demonstrated that early year teachers believed that using hands-on materials was beneficial for teaching young schoolchildren in attendance; however, there is no correlation between early year teachers' perceptions of using hands-on materials in the classroom and their openness to new experiences (r-value = -.003, p-value = 0.484 > 0.05); there is no significant relationship between self-efficacy and early year’s teachers’ interpretation of how hands on materials in the lecture hall (r-value = -.016, p-value = 0.844 > 0.05); there is no significance difference in male and female early year teacher’s interpretation of how hands-on materials for classroom teaching (t-value = 1.873, p-value = 0.709 > 0.05). Considering the results, the following recommendations among others were made: Government and private school owners should provide adequate and effective hands-on material(s) and make it accessible to the early year’s teachers; Government and private school owners through the ministry of education should organize on regular basis seminar and or workshop to be training the earlier years teachers on how to use hands-on teaching material to deliver instruction in early years classroom.
PRELIMINARY STUDIES ABOUT SOME FACTORS INFLUENCING THE PROPERTIES OF OLEOGELS
Nowadays, the use of oleogels offers several advantages in food products. They can mimic thefunctionality of solid fats, providing structure, stability, and mouthfeel to various food formulations. By replacing solidfats or hydrogenated oils with oleogels, manufacturers can reduce or eliminate trans fats and therefore producehealthier food products. The present study focuses on the formulation of oleogels based on pumpkin seeds and rapeseedoils and the use of beeswax or ethylcellulose as oleogelators. The preliminary results indicate that the pumpkin seedsoil contributes to the formation of oleogels with higher consistency. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of oleogelscan be manipulated, by adjusting some parameters, such as the type of oil and the kind and concentration of theoleogelator
Likert scale as a tool to assess awareness in children
Introduction: In the sports field, the use of proprioceptive training is an effective method in optimizing athletes' performances. For this reason, we thought also to try this method also in the field of physical education, namely in the physical education lesson in a public school. Our intention was to organize an intervention through a physical exercise program that would stimulate the proprioceptors in order to improve the sensory-motor function of children. We wanted to observe and highlight whether students can express what they feel when they do exercise. Before starting to practice, the students were instructed by the physical education teacher to focus on the signals received from the external and internal environment of the body, e.g., proprioceptive, or tactile information in the absence of visual information. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to highlight the level of awareness in children during physical exercise in order to evaluate and compare it with other children. Methods: bibliographic study; observation method; the Likert scale tool; the method of comparing the results; data collection; graphing and data analysis and interpretation. Results: The subjects of this research were a total of 74 students, of which 48 children from the 4th grade and 26 children from the 7th grade, enrolled in a public school in Bucharest. We created a chart, which we have distributed to the students, and measured their level of awareness immediately after they finished their exercise. Conclusions: There are large differences between the 4th grade and the 7th grade students in terms of the results obtained. Thus, the 4th grade children aged 10 were much more aware of what they were feeling than the 7th grade children aged 13
