    No full text
The Deweyan category of the transaction – allowing to overcome the opposition between objectivism and subjectivism in the educational studies – provides effective regulatory criteria in order to design and manage the academic training of educators, who go through a transitional state that assumes the characteristics of transformation. In this perspective, the present contribution illustrates the epistemological and methodological coordinates that characterize the training of educators within one of the training-research activities promoted by the University of Naples Suor Orsola Benincasa.

    No full text
Philosophy of education presents numerous open issues, which need to be investigated and reflected upon; this essay attempts to outline some of the issues that make up the contemporary debate, in the light of the elements and authors presented in the previous essays of this ‘symposium’. The relationship between philosophy and education, thought and practice, pedagogical field and political sphere are the common themes in the text. Attention on care, educational relationships, emotions, complexity and on the complex relationship between school and society are some of the perspectives from which we, in the essay, look at the central problem of education: the formation and personal fulfillment of each individual.

The paper works on the premise of the awareness of the role that Rousseau’s thought played in the past and is still playing in the pedagogical tradition, with the intention to show the relevance of some of his ideas in view of developing an integral human education. Specifically, natural education, considered as a pedagogical paradigm, offers a possible theoretical framework to experiment educational strategies aimed at promoting the potential of every human being.

    Disability and Happiness

Scientific literature has often struggled to believe that aperson with disability can be happy. When the empirical evidenceseemed to support this possibility, the term “disabilityparadox” was invented to explain this improbable condition. The article traces the development of this thought in scientificliterature trying to underline its inconsistencies and highlightinghow often common sense more than scientific rigorseems to guide research work in this field of analysis. Nothingprevents a person with a disability from being happy bothform the hedonic and eudaimonic perspectives. However, atthe same time, nothing assures that this happens with the restof humanity. Following the analysis of Reinders we supportthe idea that a life story provides the hermeneutical contextwithin which agent-relative capabilities and happiness can bediscovered and realized

Grounded in ethnographic research with activist organisations – familiesof the victims of state violence in Argentina and Brazil – this articleseeks to critically reflect on the relationships between gender, kinship, andthe politics and social practice of memory, together with devices for themanagement of life and social order in specific ethnographic situations.Using a comparative approach, the article argues that relationships establishedbetween these groups enable the construction of shared strategies ofpolitical action and the production of shared meanings in the face of overlappingconfrontations with inequalities and violence. The central problematicquestions how the these activists’ displacements (often transnational)disseminate practices, skills, experiences, and repertoires of politicalmobilisation that compose a field of action directed towards the constructionof memories, the rendering visible of victims, and the denunciation ofprevious regimes of selectively perpetrated violence

Accusations of corruption have occupied a central spot in the Brazilianpublic life and they have frequently been associated with big constructioncompanies (the contractors). This work analyses how the actions of a contractorwith a federal public budget to secure the viability of its businessarticulate with the routine proceedings of statal bureaucracy and the ordinarypolitical practices associated to the idea of political representation. Inopposition to the moralist and essentialist interpretations, the work emphasizesthe collective dimension of the practices considered as corruption, meaning they become possible through the participation and complicity ofa multiplicity of people situated in different positions in institutions.Arguing that the action of the contractor – as it promotes adaptation, distortion or suspension of rules and official proceedings – participates inthe forming of the State
