The presentation focused on the facts about PIDs landscape in Africa, identifying the key factors that is impeding the institutionalization of open science in the region while providing the various initiatives from DataCite to address the challenge in the region. Details about DataCite's engagement in the region involving various stakeholders were identified while services that brings metrics and visibility to research outputs were highlighted in the presentation
Trustworthy Machine Information Behaviour and Open Research Repositories
The perception regarding the nature of repository users is changing as a result technological advancements. This is reflected in arguments contending that machines should be recognised as users of library services. Such arguments are based on the view that library collections such as open repositories should be considered as data that can be used by artificially intelligent machine users. These arguments raise questions regarding the concept of trust as they do not actually address attributes that machines users must possess in order for them to be considered trustworthy. This research develops a conceptual framework for understanding the parameters within which trustworthy machine information behavior can emerge. This outcome is achieved by applying machine ethics to a modified version of Wilson's general theory of information behavior that incorporates elements of machine learning. The results indicate that the level of trust placed in machines users is dependent on the algorithms and software used for programming such AI systems as well as the actions of humans who make use of such machine users. In order for any semblance of trust in machine users of open repositories to exist, the machine information behavior employed by the machine users should adhere to certain ethical principles
Assessment of Horizontal Equity of Personal Income Tax in Nigeria
The research investigates horizontal equity i.e., extent to which persons with similar income are treated equally, of personal income tax liabilities of nine (9) federal government MDA’s and institutions employees on the Consolidated and Unified Salaries Structure scheme in terms of; the minimum and progressive tax liabilities. Secondary data which includes the grade level, steps, statutory deduction and allowance, emolument is collected from the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC) and FIRS. The data is analysed using multi-level linear modelling techniques i.e., MLM (due to the hierarchical nature of the data, large variance and within MDA’s sample dependency) to extract the residuals inputs used to compute the coefficient of residual variation ratio (CRVR). Dis-aggregating the data into minimum or progressive tax rate payments, it was founds that: employee charge on the minimum tax rate of 1% are generally horizontally equal, but the rate varied at lower- or upper-income class employee appear more horizontally equal relative to middle-income class employee, employee charged on the progressive tax rate of 7%-33% are however less horizontally equal relative to those with minimum tax rate with the lower and upper income class performing better than those at the middle income class. Overall, the lower- and middle-income earners are found to be less treated equally relative to a specific income group at the upper echelon where a lower horizontal inequality is found
Isolation And Molecular Identification Of Endophytic Fungi In Tigernuts (Cyperus Esculentus L.)
Tiger nuts (Cyperus esculentus Lativum) are highly valued for their sweet tubers and numerous health benefits. Like other plants, tiger nuts harbor a diverse community of endophytic microorganisms that contribute to plant survival, growth, and development. However, when tiger nut tubers are consumed raw, there is a potential for the transmission of endophytic fungi to humans. Understanding the diversity of endophytic fungi associated with tiger nuts is crucial to assess the potential consequences of their transfer to humans during tiger nut consumption. Therefore, this study aimed to isolate and identify endophytic fungi from fresh tiger nuts.
Fresh tiger nut samples were obtained from three different towns in Osun State, namely Osogbo, Oyan, and Ikirun. After aseptic rinsing and crushing of the tiger nut tubers, endophytic fungi were cultured on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). The molecular identification of the isolated fungi was performed using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and sequencing analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the fungi using universal primers. The obtained ITS sequences were then subjected to a BLAST search on the NCBI database for identification.
Three fungi were successfully sequenced and identified in this study. They were found to share close identity with Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolate 27 (99.62%), Saccharomyces cerevisiae isolate B-NC-12-OZ03 (99.0%), and Candida tropicalis strain Pe1 (98.79%). The presence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida species is noteworthy, as they are relevant in fermentation processes. However, their presence as endophytes in tiger nut tubers may lead to negative fermentation or spoilage of the tubers. Furthermore, Candida tropicalis has been reported as a pathogen in individuals with compromised immune systems.
This study provides valuable information on the potential endophytic fungi that can be isolated from tiger nuts. Further research is recommended to explore the roles of these endophytic fungi and their implications in tiger nut quality, safety, and fermentation processes. Understanding the interactions between endophytic fungi and tiger nuts will contribute to better management practices and ensure the safe consumption of this popular plant

Design and Implementation of a Network Programming Module (A Secure Client-Server Chat Application)
Several network systems are built to communicate with one another as well as made available through service-oriented architectures. In this project, the client server architecture is used to develop a chat application. Firstly a chat application is created for both Client and Server which is based on Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) where TCP is connection oriented protocol and is a reliable connection protocol. As security is the key factor while communicating over a network, so in this project, MySQL SSL protocol and hash function was used for the Database based on a numbers of benefits. The hash values of the real password and the random generated number (salt) is stored in the database. The original password is not stored on the system, making cracking of password much harder
