Evolution of Woman’s Poetry in Modern Bengali Poetry : Uniqueness of Geeta Chattopadhyay/ আধুনিক বাংলা কবিতায় নারীর কবিতার বিবর্তন : গীতা চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের স্বাতন্ত্র্য
In ancient Indian tradition, women were considered as goddesses. In various scriptures, that woman was considered to be the receiver of maternal power. Who holds the child in the womb and grows it little by little and shows the light of the world. Women are not satisfied only with giving birth to children. Despite doing all the work in the world, their foreheads are scroned and humiliated. Patriarchal society tends to continuously opperss women. But the eyes of man and woman are not afraid and move forward. Some of them are women who use their writing and speech as a language of protest. This trend has continued since the thirties till the present time. Kamini Roy, Man kumari Basu, Kusumkumari Das are among the women poets who entered the world of poetry in the early thirties. Although the language of their poetry is not strong, the history of the life of married women has been revealed in their writtings. Later the voice of women poets changed from the 1950\u27s onwards. Poet Kabita Singh of the 50\u27s, Mallika Sengupta of the 70\u27s has a strong tone of poetry. What the have observed in their personal experience in the surrounding life is represent in the poem. The social positions of women observed by them at that time resulted in short puns and insults in the poem. On the other hand, in the poetry of poet Chaitali Chattopadhyay or Sutapa Sengupta of the 1980\u27s we find a different view of women. Altho the language of their poetry is not intense the individual needs of women have been caught repeatedly. But 60\u27s poet Geeta chattopadhyay\u27s language, of protest is distinct from others. As she was born into a conservative sophisticated family, her writings reveal a different picture of the antapur women. Not only the women\u27s life of antapur, she has established the multi dimensional aspects of women with her own creative power. The confined life of housewives, individual physical feelings etc. Masculinity is not always performed by men but also by women as we often find such instances in various poems of poets. Her protest language is very mild yet effective. It is her gentle manner of speaking as well as deep thoughtfulness that gives life to her poetry. To understand her poems, one has to dive deep into the heart. The poet’s protest is expressed without using any raised tone. This has emerged prominently in the discussion
Folk dance Natua/ লোকনৃত্য নাটুয়া
Natua - An ancient folk dance of former Manbhum. This long-standing masculine folk dance not only brings joy to people, but also amazes with the inhuman physical strength and agility of Natua artists. Nataraja Shiva is said to be the originator of this dance. Shiva Gajan is the main time of this dance. In the middle, the trend of Natua dance has decreased a bit, but now the enthusiasm and interest of the new generation about this dance is visible. Leaving the country, Natua dance is becoming popular in foreign lands as well
Children’s literature by Hasan Azizul Haque: A discussion/ হাসান আজিজুল হকের শিশুসাহিত্য : একটি আলোচনা
Hasan Azizul Haque, who was born on 2 February 1939 and died on 15 November 2021, was an eminent writer from Bangladesh who has written famous short stories and novels regarding Bengal partition and liberation war, his stories and novels are very much popular in both India and Bangladesh, but it is a lesser-known fact that he has written very few (only 7) short stories and a novel for the children too. His seven short stories and novel for children is a blend of humor, laughter and social reflection, because as a socially sound writer he wanted to make them face the reality. But keeping in mind that he was writing for children, he made such characters, that some of them will make children laugh as well as some of them will make them learn something. The stories and the novel have such wonderful tales of timeless relationships, suspense, fighting for living and pandemonic situations. Every single tale has its own wonder, somewhere there is a battle of jealousy, somewhere, the strength of friendship between a boy and an animal conquers all the odds against them. Somewhere we can see a hilarious situation regarding a hunting, in some story it will be seen that how much fool a person can be, in another story a journey will be described through the eyes of an animal. Here, not only the humans, but also the animals will give some subtle messages. These various tastes will make the children feel the real essence of life. As a writer he has successfully fulfilled his responsibility to blend his writings as per the children. Though the young readers haven’t got so much writings for them from his side, but how much they have got, it is obvious that along with them, the grown-ups will also enjoy those writings.
Women in Indian Civilization: From Vedic to Contemporary Age/ ভারতীয় সভ্যতায় নারী : বৈদিক যুগ থেকে আধুনিক যুগ
Since the Vedic Age, Women in India have always been hailed as an integral part of the society and considered as equal to men in every facet of life. In the Vedic Age, we came across at least 27 to 30 names of women of renown and scholarship such as Gargi, Maitreeye, Apala etc. These women were acclaimed as connoisseur of art, literature and philosophy with an enlightened vision to approximate the Supreme Being. In Devi Suktam in 10th Mandala of Rigveda, composed by the female Brahmavadin Vakh Rishi, declared herself as the Supreme Caretaker of the world. We find the reference of Goddess Ratri, who, in Rigveda, as the protector deity from the evil forces. Later, Swami Vivekananda had hailed Sita as the symbol of tolerance, stoic wisdom and hence, ideal of all Indian women. In fact, before the Abrahamic intrusion, the social status of women in India was high and admirable. In the Medieval and the Colonial period, women such as Queen Ahalyabai, Laxmibai and pious women such as Mother Sarada Devi, Bhubaneswari Devi deserve mention. Women revolutionaries such as Pritilata Waddedar, Beena Das, Ujjwala Mazumder fought against the British empire with great dedication, valour and undaunted spirit. Contrary to that, in the Western Civilization, women did not get the right to vote till 1920s. In Central Asian states such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, women have still been treated as sub-human species devoid of any human right and social security. Thus, it is high time that we should introspect our past and rewrite the history based of evidences and facts, rather than biased preconceived notions. The purpose of this paper is to offer a diachronic study of the position of women in India through scriptures, evidences and objective overview of history
Some Trends Of The Post-Independence Period : Seen, Short Stories Of Kamalkumar Majumdar/ স্বাধীনতা পরবর্তী সময়ের কয়েকটি প্রবণতা : প্রেক্ষিত - কমলকুমার মজুমদারের গল্প
Kamalkumar Majumdar (1914-1979) is an exceptional name in Bengali literature. He is best known for his unique writing style. He has been active throughout his life in keeping his writing alive from the confines of political, business and advertisement. The literal language used by him is unconventional and the style of writing is out of ordinary. Most of the stories were published in little magazines, which gave him a lot of freedom to write. He started writing stories from the 30s. The early stories written by him are far-fetched in terms of subject matter, even though they are standing in the context of Bengal, which has been uprooted for political reasons. The male-female relationship have their innermost as art-form in all there stories. In the interim, the language of the story was simple and the Bengali syntaxtual deviation was unheeded.
In 1947 came the moment of our Independence. A turning point of Bengali literature had begun. Kamalkumar had shown the calamities in the history of Bengal in a different way in his stories. In his various stroies, the political issues were explained from his own point of view. He did not follow the trend of that era, and used to bring up the contemporary issues much earlier than other, according to his own will. Otherwise, why would he wrote about Swadeshi movement in ‘Tahader Katha’ in 1958, why he wrote ‘Rukminikumar’ even after ten years. In 1948, he wrote a story ‘Jal’ about the natural disaster in Medinipur and the famine in Bengal. The history of Tebhaga movement is rooted in the story of ‘Teish’. Some of the trends of post-independence period have been upholded in his various stories. For example, ‘Khelar Bichar’, ‘Bagan Daibabani’ explains how European’s modernity was to filtrate the Bengali character. ‘Bagan Keyari’ is a real picture of urbanization. The food crisis and disparity between the rich and poor are reflected in the story of ‘Neem Annapurna’ and ‘Khelar Bichar’.‘Mallika Bahar’ depicts the position of women in the changing society of the 20th century. ‘Khelar Arambha’ and ‘Kal e Aatatayee’ story have shown the image of Bengal bloodied by the Naxalite movement at that time. He found a way to escape from the shelter of spirituality in the decadence of Bengali culture and values. Kamalkumar wanted to settle the violent affected people in the backwardness. He always yearned for a holy world. He himself stood out as a distinct trend in this urge to prevent the destruction of humanity
Premendro Mitrer Prani-Bidya Bishoyok Kolpo-Golpe Bigyan Chetona/ প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্রের প্রাণিবিদ্যা বিষয়ক কল্প-গল্পে বিজ্ঞান চেতনা
Today\u27s busy life has made human society increasingly selfish. Even at a time when many species are about to disappear from the world, is it the right time to remain calm? We have been so focused on the complexities of profit and loss that we have given priority to things like ecosystems only as texts, without showing any interest in them in real life. However, we have seen its consequences in the devastation caused by viruses like the Noble Corona. Now the question is, even we have become aware? Many living things around us are being born and dying everyday due to the pollution caused by us which we don\u27t even notice. But some liberal people are still alive in the world who are not only thinking about their own interests but also fighting for the existence of these smaller creatures in their own way. Some took to the streets and chose the path of rebellion, while others took up the pen. The purpose is same, to point the finger at the ineffectual demonic masks to show that humanity has not yet disappear. Premendra Mitra is such a philanthropic personality. In his writings, the word of kindness has been carefully analyzed for the creatures and animals. But in a novel way, in a science fiction twist; As a result, it has become the center of attraction for everyone. We may not be able to say from which psychology the author has invented these stories but the motive behind it is to love the biosphere and science fiction. And the love of science fiction has encouraged us to consume these stories. As a result of which, we have chosen as our topic “Premendro Mitrer Prani-Bidya Bishoyok Kolpo-Golpe Bigyan Chetona”. The main article focuses on Premendra Mitra\u27s zoological science fiction stories briefly. We witness a wonderful fusion of science fiction and zoology in every story. Also the message of awareness. I presented a small part in summary
The Short Story Swapnamoy Chakraborty : A Review/ অণুগল্পকার স্বপ্নময় চক্রবর্তী : একটি পর্যালোচনা
Swapnamoy Chakraborty is a milestone in the world of Bengali short stories. In the short stories he writes, the voice of the middle class is heard. Her writings depict the difficult struggle of women. The writer has not made the mistake of showing the picture that women are becoming consumer goods in male Tantric society. But in his short stories, old age love takes on a different dimension. Undiscussed aspects of history have been exposed in the pen of history conscious writers. Again, in politics, the happiness and sorrow of the common people has been highlighted in his own Munsiana in an infallible way. Because of his correct and unbiased political views, his short stories became black. Moreover, the pain of death consciousness, black market, partition of the country have come up in various ways in his short stories
Context of the Novels of Bankim Chandra in perspective of 19th Century History/ উনিশ শতকীয় ইতিহাসের প্রেক্ষিতে বঙ্কিম উপন্যাসের কথনবিশ্ব
Bankim Chandra Chattapadhyay (1838-1894) was the first Bengali novelist and the editor of the periodical Bengali magazine ‘Bongodarshan’. His novels were profoundly influenced by the cohesive elements of the 19th-century renaissance, characterized by an emerging middle-class awareness, a romantic sensibility, and a deep engagement with historical consciousness. Before he started writing Novels, he was an earnest reader of history. His writing creativity with potent knowledge of History was reflected in his every novel. These two spirits were stirring in his novels ‘Durgesnandini’ (1865), ‘Kopalkundala’ (1866), ‘Mrinalini’ (1869), ‘Chandrasekhar’ (1875), ‘Rajsingho’ (1882), ‘Anondomath’ (1884), ‘Devi Chowdhurani’ (1884), ‘Sitaram’ (1887) etc. The Strength of his writing is - A Reader can experience the feel of Patriotism & Nationalism in his every Novel and it was intertwined with the world socio-political history & Indian Nationalist movement and the cultural Renaissance of the late 19th Century. Analogically we can mention ‘Vande Mataram’ which was published in 1882 as a part of his Bengali novel Ananandamath, it was written as a tribute to the motherland, personified as the goddess of the country. ‘Vande Mataram’ Its lyrics express devotion to India and reflect themes of patriotism and national pride. The first two verses of the song are usually sung, and its significance remains deeply rooted in Indian history and culture. All his novel had been written in the context of the traditions and reform movements, revival and conservation of Hinduism, conflict between eastern and western culture, deficiency of progressive approach, priority of socialism etc. which I have explained periodically in my paper. As one of the first modern novelist in Bengali literature, his works made the foundation for the future writer. His Contribution in Indian Cultural and literacy History has created a long-lasting impact.
Anil Gharai’s Novel ‘Megh Jiboner Trishna’ : The Narrative of Hari Community/ অনিল ঘড়াই-এর ‘মেঘ জীবনের তৃষ্ণা’ : হাড়ি সম্প্রদায়ের ইতিকথা
Post-colonial writer, Anil Ghrai\u27s popular novel \u27Megh Jiboner Trishna\u27 is written about the Hari community. The Hari community has been depicted as the roots and reality of the caste system in our society. They are still oppressed. The process of Brahmin superiority and caste distinctions which became permanent in the social formation of Bengal during the Sena period still survives through various breakdowns. As a result, the social status of the Hari community remained the same and untouchability remains in our society. Through the story of Pawan\u27s family\u27s ups and downs, novelist Anil Ghrai is mainly represented in caste-dominated Hindu society who are not allowed to connect with the mainstream of the society. In the narrative of the novel \u27Megh Jiboner Trishna\u27, the picture shows the socio-economic condition of the Hari community, for whom there is a separate system, separate provisions in everything. The people of Hari community mainly spend their lives by rearing pigs, selling skins of dead animals collected from Bhagar to moneylenders or selling fish in the market and they lost their social identity.
Folklore and culture of the Sundarbans region in the fiction of Jhareshwar Chatterjee/ ঝড়েশ্বর চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের কথাসাহিত্যে সুন্দরবন অঞ্চলের লোকাচার ও সংস্কৃতি
In the eighties, the emergence of Jhareswar Chattopadhyay in Bengali literature. The main field of his literature is the fringes of the Sundarbans. The people\u27s life, culture, traditions, customs, superstitions and local gods and goddesses of this region have come up in his narratives. In fact, these customs and beliefs are intertwined with the people here. Because, in this favorable environment, they remember these worldly gods and goddesses to save them from various calamities. Naturally, Banabibi, Vishalakshi temples are established in various places of this region. Along with this, various rituals were introduced to worship these gods and goddesses. The main purpose of my essay is to show how this culture has been portrayed by Jhareswar Chattopadhyay in his literature
