After the advent of Bengali fictional short stories, a significant shift in their central themes was taken place after the First World War. Moving beyond personal narratives, these stories began to reveal societal truths such as class-divided structures, class struggles, and the exploitation by rulers through the authors’ writings. The struggles for survival faced by the poor and lower-class people, along with their deprivation, humiliation, and intense suffering, are vividly portrayed in the works of Sushil Jana, a contemporary writer of the time of the World War. However, the story of this lament does not stop even after the independence of India. Writer Bhagirath Mishra depicted a similar picture through his literary works. Although there is a gap of almost thirty years in the writings of the two writers, there is no particular difference in the life journey of the oppressed people portrayed in their stories. An attempt has been made to discuss these issues in this article.  &nbsp

Enakshi Roy\u27s \u27Joler Bhuvan\u27 (2016) is such a memoir that is not only about her own childhood experiences, but also of various experiences of many people related to their childhood life which is nostalgic. It is reminded of the various materials left behind by many people related to their childhood life in the seventies and eighties, which are now a thing of the past. The sincere relationships of childhood, games, observance of vows, free-roaming in the bosom of nature, the tradition of fairs, the craze of puppet dancing, telegrams, postcards, inland letter cards, the khaki-coloured clothes of the postman, the coal engine of the railway car, the well-welder, the curd seller, floating paper boats in the rainwater, the wedding of dolls, etc. are being lost in the 21st century. Many of the joys of childhood life have been lost to today\u27s generation. Therefore, the various elements of that lost childhood described in the memoir have special historical significance. It is also about being a living character of a city and being intimately involved with life. That city is Jalpaiguri in North Bengal. The history of the naming of Jalpaiguri district, the horror of floods, the nature of the Karala River, the Dharla River, the Rukruka River, the discovery of the Toto caste by Enakshi Roy\u27s grandfather Jatindranath Roy, the sweetness of the language of Jalpaiguri city under the influence of the Rajbangshi language, the tradition and antiquity of the Jalpesh fair, the contribution of Nawab Hossain Mosharraf to Jalpaiguri, the words of Thakur Panchanan Barma, some historical facts of Jalpaiguri centered on Netaji-Gandhiji, historical information about the change of the route of the Darjeeling Mail, information about the city\u27s traditional shops, schools and colleges - all these things are presented in the memoir in connection with life experiences. Finally, the pain of being uprooted due to Enakshi Roy\u27s migration from Jalpaiguri to Kolkata is added. There is talk of alleviating that pain through reminiscence. The style of the memoir captures a touch of poetry. The significance of the memoir, "The Water World," lies in its transcendence of the personal to become universal and timeless

Shaoli Mitra – A Bold and Unique Thinker, Playwriter, and Actress. Shaoli Mitra’s famous play, Nathavati Anathavat (1983), is a poignant depiction of Draupadi\u27s suffering, inspired by the Mahabharata. However, through the exquisite weaving of dramatic elements, the playwright transforms the story into a contemporary narrative of women\u27s struggles. The entire play unfolds as a storyteller narrates the tale to the audience through various expressions and techniques.             Shaoli Mitra draws specifically from Draupadi\u27s story and the social conditions of that time, choosing to focus on the position of women from beginning to end. The primary theme of the play revolves around the social plight and helplessness of women, with Draupadi as the central character. Through Nathavati Anathavat, Shaoli Mitra raises her voice against the injustices endured by Draupadis across ages. Her Draupadi becomes a representative of the politically and socially oppressed women of the present era.              The cruel societal norms devastate Draupadi\u27s life. Despite having husbands, she suffers the pain of abandonment and the betrayal of trust. The playwright vividly portrays this anguish. The play sheds light on the cowardice, greed, lust, and exploitation of men, exemplified by the Pandavas\u27 decision to gamble Draupadi away to protect their empire. Draupadi\u27s desires, agency, and even her womanhood were of little significance to them, except for Bhima, who at least tried to shield her from humiliation and suffering.              When Yudhishthira gambled Draupadi away during the dice game, Bhima was the only one to rise in protest against his brother. Yet, neither Draupadi nor the playwright places faith in the idea that brave husbands will protect oppressed women like her. Consequently, Draupadi calls for war to rid society of the sins and atrocities perpetrated by individuals like Dushasana and Duryodhana. Through the extraordinary vision of a woman from the Mahabharata, Shaoli Mitra seeks to critique contemporary times and society. This article attempts to explore that perspective

This research explores the contemporary relevance of Rabindranath Tagore\u27s thoughts on the colonized world, particularly as articulated in his essay “The Crisis of Civilization” (Sabhyatar Sankat). Written during the later years of Tagore\u27s life, the essay critiques the Western concept of civilization and its detrimental impact on India during the colonial period. Tagore argues that this notion has fueled the exploitation and oppression of colonized nations, urging Indians to reclaim their cultural heritage and reject the imposition of foreign values.           The study aims to analyze the themes within the essay, with a focus on its critique of imperialism and the lasting legacy of colonialism. It will investigate how Tagore\u27s insights remain significant in today\u27s post-colonial context, where many nations continue to grapple with the ramifications of their colonial histories. The research highlights Tagore\u27s warning against blind imitation and unquestioning obedience while encouraging critical thought regarding dominant ideologies.           By contributing to the discourse on post-colonialism and decolonization, this study underscores the necessity for renewed critiques of Western values and institutions. Furthermore, it illustrates how Tagore\u27s perspectives continue to resonate in contemporary discussions surrounding globalization, imperialism, and cultural identity
