A Comparative Study Between the Climate Response Strategies and Thermal Comfort of a Traditional and Contemporary Houses in KRG: Erbil
The hot and dry climate conditions in Erbil city has a main effect on the energy consumption and thermal performance of the house. In the last decade, residential sector in Kurdistan region government has consumed about 50% of total energy consumption. The contemporary dwelling did not consider climate consideration therefore; there was difficulty in achieving or obtaining thermal comfort conditions, without using electrical or mechanical devices like air- conditioning. In contrast, traditional houses carefully and effectively designed with climate conditions. In the present study, in order to determine suitable architectural strategy that may be benefit in future housing designs, the climate response strategies and thermal comfort examined in both traditional and contemporary houses in Erbil city and evaluated in terms of building form, orientation, occupancy migration, plan arrangement, window, ventilation, shading, Vegetation, water bodies building materials and Urban Fabric. At the end of this study, a simplified evaluation and comparison between contemporary and traditional house are given
Clinical, Endoscopic and Urea Breath Test Among Dyspeptic Patients Referred to Kurdistan Center for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Sulaimani
Objective is to assess patients with dyspepsia clinically and to find the relationship between endoscopic findings and Urea breathe test. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study, was conducted during the period of October 2016 till April 2017 in Kurdistan Center for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Sulaimani city. Eighty six patients were included, fifty eight of them underwent both OGD and Urea breath test, and twenty eight of them underwent Urea breath test only. Patients who underwent OGD were prepared by overnight fasting, pre-procedure viral screening (Hepatitis B surface antigen, Hepatitis C virus antibody and Human immunodeficiency virus antibody), conscious sedation performed by midazolam at the time of procedure. Patients underwent Urea breath test were prepared by overnight fasting and they were advised not to use antibiotics 4 weeks and proton pump inhibitors, or Bismuth compounds 2 weeks before the test. Results: The mean age of participants was 35.89 ±11.55.Fifty five cases 64% were female and 31 cases 36%were male. The mean Body Mass Index of studied patients was 24.83 kg/ m2± 4.2, overweight patients were 31.4% and 8.1% were obese. The main presenting symptom was epigastric discomfort 31%. Urea breath test for Helicobacter pylori was positive in51.2% with significant correlation with OGD findings. Helicobacter pylori infection is common among dyspeptic patients; the infection is more common in the age group of 20-40 years. Urea breath test is a noninvasive test to detect Helicobacter pylori
Epidemiological parameter changes of global Avian Influenza H5N1 over two decades, from 1997 to 2017
Influenza virus (H5N1) is highly contagious disease, which attacks the respiratory tract in humans. The deaths of six people in Hong Kong in 1997 from an H5N1 virus infection was the first indication that a purely avian influenza virus could cause respiratory disease and death in human. The aim of current study was to observe changes of epidemiological parameters of the infected patients, and the behaviour of virus outbreak over two decades of avian influenza virus (H5N1) from 1997 to April 2017. Data of the current study was obtained from WHO (World Health Organization) daily outbreak reports and then computerized and analyzed. It included 826 cases from 1997 to last case in April 2017 for this study. Most of the studied cases, their ages were less than 16 years (n=366), and spread in 16 countries, the top three countries prevalence were Egypt (n= 356), Indonesia (n= 175), and Vietnam (n=87) respectively. The most years of cases incidence were 2015 (n= 147) and 2006 (n=122). Most of cases were recorded in January (n=180), February (n=149), and March (n=143) respectively. Case fatality rates were 50.7%. In conclusion most cases were in second decade than first decade of (H5N1) outbreak, but death were more in first decade, Also most cases were in low temperature seasons and in very young children but death were more in adults. In first decade, morbidity were more in Asia countries like China, Vietnam, and Indonesia but in second decade, mortality were more in North Africa (Egypt). However, cases were more in Egypt than Indonesia but deaths were more in Indonesia. H5N1 virus must be currently studied and its controlling is highly requested
Prevalence of Hepatitis B, C, and D among Thalassemia patients in Sulaimani Governorate
Infectious diseases are the leading cause of mortality worldwide, with hepatitis viruses in particular making global impact on socioeconomic development and this infection remains a serious public health issue. This study was performed to investigate the prevalence of Hepatitis B, C and D among multi-transfused risk groups in Sulaimani Governorate, 120 major thalassemic patients were tested by serological and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique and Recombinant ImmunoBlot Assay (RIBA) test was done as a confirmatory test for all HCV ELISA positive patients. It was observed that the prevalence of HCV was higher (29.1%) comparing to HBV (22.5%) and HDV (3.3%). The prevalence of HCV-HBV coinfection was (5%), HCV-HBV-HDV coinfections were (0.83%). Statistical analysis showed that the age was significantly effective on the prevalence of HBV (p = 0.009), parenteral medication users showed a significant relation with HBV and HCV prevalence (p = 0.03 and 0.041) respectively. The blood transfusion frequency was significantly related to HBV and HCV prevalence (p = 0.042 and 0.035) respectively. It was noticed that vaccination significantly related to HBV prevalence among thalassemic patients (p = 0.002)
Assessment the knowledge of mothers ‘toward home accident among children less than five years in Polytechnic University of Sulaimani
Children accidents are an essential source of death and wounds among children during the first of life. Annually, millions of children are constantly becoming handicap or blemished because of mishaps.Objective: To assess knowledge of children mothers toward home accidents in polytechnic University of Sulaimani. Methodology: A simple random sample of (110) respondents were selected.. The data collected and composed during the utilization of a created questionnaire, with two parts; the first part assessed the knowledge of children mothers with (20) yes or no questions and the second part includes the mothers' demographic attributes. A pilot study was carried out for the period of December 18th to 28th 2015 in order to conclude the questionnaire accuracy during the use of (Test – Retest). A panel of (8) experts was include in the determination of the questionnaire content validity Data were analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical data analysis approach (frequency and percentage), and inferential data analysis approach (Mean of Scores).).The results of the study revealed, the mean age of the mothers was (1.86) years, (58.2%) of them had completed secondary school, (88.2%) of mothers have more than five children, (89.1%) of mother’s were in moderate socio-economic status, (47.3%) of mothers have personal reading information,(58.2) of the child were male,(13.6%) of mothers have knowledge about safe housing condition held in Maternal and Child Health Centers.The conclusion of this study revealed that, inadequate children mothers’ knowledge regarding home accidents among children less than six years held in Maternal and Child Health Centers during the antenatal period. So the recommendation are suggested, reinforces the need for effective education program via mass media, for mothers. 
Assessment the knowledge of mothers regarding Diarrhea of Children less than five years at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Arbit camp: A descriptive study
Diarrhea is the 2nd chief reason of child death widespread. Low- and middle-income countries are especially exhausting with this both avoidable and treatable condition. Aim: To investigate how children’s health less than five years affected by diarrhea at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Arbit camp. This study was carried out from december22th 2015 to march 20th 2016. Non-probability sampling a convenience sample of (103) mothers of internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Arbit camp were selected for the purpose of the study.. It was comprised of two parts; the first part includes the mothers' demographic attributes and the second part assessed the knowledge of diarrhea with (20) yes or on questions. The main results obtained from the study are as follows, more than the half (54.40%) of mothers are (18-25) years old, the (49.50%) of mothers have moderate Socio-economic status, (99.00%of mothers are housewife,, also (54.40%) of the mothers have one child less than five years. The (46.60%) of mothers are illiterate and only (32.00%) of husband read and write and According to the family size of the study (51.50%) of mothers has five children. About the distance of water sources (56.30%) of mothers needs more than 5 minutes to reach water sources, (47.60%) of them have received health education regarding diarrhea held in primary health care center. There was statistically significant relationship between mother’s knowledge of diarrhea and (age group, educational level of husband, educational level of the mother, and occupational status of mother, socioeconomic status, and source of information). So the following recommendation is suggested, highlight the need for excessive nutritional educational program, about diarrhea should be implemented for mothers, good sanitation and improvement of housing conditions especially water resources at arbit cam
Mother’s Characteristics, Knowledge and Practices about Children Burn Injury in Sulaimani City
Burn is described as one of the leading causes of injury throughout the world, and is one of the most frequent causes of hospitalization. The aim of this study was to determine mother’s characteristics, Knowledge and practices for burn injuries and burn infection prevention. A cross sectional descriptive study was undertaken in Sulaimani city, Iraq, from October 2015 to July 2016. Participants were evaluated using a structured questionnaire by face-to-face interview. Data were computerized and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22.0 software. A total of 126 mothers who had burn injury in their children and admitted to burning hospital during the study period, the mean score knowledge of mothers was (3.63), the mean score practice of mothers accounted (4.63), the respondent practice score ranged from (1-8). They had poor, intermediate, and good score knowledge about burns injury and burn infection 79.37%, 18.25%, and 2.38% respectively. In regard to mother’s related practice, there were 66.67% within poor practice level, 30.95% of an intermediate level, and 2.38% had a good practice level. The study shows that mother knowledge and practice in Sulaimani city in relation to burn injury and infection among their children was at a low level and the local health authority should incorporate health education for parents, especially mothers in the prevention of pediatric burn at home involving hot liquid and flames also other domestic hazardous as well as the important activities after burn or pre-hospital admission
Incidence and Types of Congenital Heart Diseases among Children in Sulaimani Governorate
Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are common causes of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality among young children and adolescents. It is the most common form of structural congenital defects. Little is known about incidence and type of these disorders in Sulaimani. Therefore, this study was undertaken to determine the incidence of congenital heart diseases and their types in Sulaimani Governorate. The study was conducted in Sulaimani Pediatric Teaching Hospital and the Maternity Hospital during January 2015 to December 2016. A sample of 400 consecutive cases of CHD in children aged 0-12 years was recruited attending the echocardiographic department of the hospital for diagnosis or follow-up purposes. Demographic data was collected through a face-to-face interview with the mothers of cases. A total number of new live births for 2015-2016 and those with congenital heart diseases were obtained from the medical records of the department of statistics of Sulaimani Maternity Teaching Hospital. The overall incidence of all types of congenital heart diseases was 1.7/1000, 1.6/1000 live births for the year 2015 and 2016 respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in incidence between males and females over the two years, male to female risk ratio 1.83 (95% CI 1.09-3.14, p 0.007). The commonest types of cyanotic congenital heart diseases were tetralogy of Fallot (38.9% of all cyanotic defects), complete atrioventricular canal (22.1%), and transposition of great arteries (18.2%), while the most common types of non-cyanotic congenital heart disease were atrial septal defect (34.1% of all non-cyanotic defects), ventricular septal defect (31.6%), and the other defects are less common. In conclusion, tetralogy of Fallot, atrial septal defects, and ventricular septal defects are the commonest congenital heart deformities in Sulaimani Governorate; the incidence is lower than other countries but this could be an underestimation
An Optimized Framework to Adopt Computer Laboratory Administrations for Operating System and Application Installations
Nowadays, in most of the fields, task automation is area of interest and research due to that manual execution of a task is error prone, time consuming, involving more human resources and focus concerning. In the area of Computer laboratory administration, the old fashioned administration cannot run with today’s growth, where the Operating System (OS) and required applications are installed on all the machines one by one. Therefore, a framework for automating Lab administration in regards of Operating Systems and Application installations will be proposed in this research. Affordability, simplicity, usability are taken into major consideration. All the parts of the framework are implemented and illustrated in detail which promotes a great enhancement in the area of Computer Lab Administration
An Experimental Study of Torsional Properties of Polyvinylchloride
In this research, an experimental study has been performed to investigate the mechanical properties through torsion testing of polyvinylchloride (PVC) polymer specimens. For the purpose of the experimentation, specimens of PVC round bars have been prepared. Torsion testing machine apparatus of 200 Nm motor driven was used to evaluate the torsion properties of the tested bars. The apparatus provides four deformation speeds of 50°/min, 100°/min, 200°/min and 500 °/min. The tests conducted under different conditions in a room temperature and cooling of the samples and tested at different deformation speeds given by the torsion apparatus. Various tests produce the torsional moment- angle of rotation diagrams and thereafter both of torsional fracture resistance and shear modulus have been calculated. The results showed the effect of temperature change on the mechanical properties of PVC by making the material harder and can resist higher value of the applied torque where the range is from 2.9 N.m for the cooled sample to 2 N.m for the received samples tested at room temperature. Moreover the results showed an increase of shear modulus to 282 MPa for the cooled samples in compare to 140 MPa for as received samples. Finally the results provide a guideline for designers on how to use parts made of PVC in different applications where the range of both the maximum torque and failure torque with their mechanical properties of rigidity and torsional resistance were recorded
