In this paper the reader is acquainted with the most important issues associated with the proceeds of Roman plunder and pillage, to which the sources refers as manubiae, praeda and spólia. Illusion and disillusion. The ’68 generation’s striving for freedom and its aftermath: the quest for self-discovery of being a child of the generation in Zoe Jenny”s The Pollen Room
In this article, the example of a child of the ’68 generation, in this case Jo, a protagonist in „The Pollenroom” by the Swiss author Zoë Jenny, serves to illustrate the conflict between the ’85 generation and the ’68 generation and its serious consequences, which concern the urge of freedom, the ideals, the anti-authoritarian view of life, women´s movement as well as the overcoming and disintegration of traditional conventions and structures of society. The characteristic traits of the ’68 generation have fatal repercussions for its descendants. The author presents contemporary connotations of the notion of old-age in the context of previous historical and cultural research in that area. Current data obtained from studies of interpersonal relationships is compared with the image of old age created in cultural texts and historical documents. Thus it is possible to verify contemporary axiological attributes of the notion of old age as well as its correspondences with the attributes and connotations established in the cultural memory of Poles today.The author presents contemporary connotations of the notion of old-age in the context of previous historical and cultural research in that area. The chief purpose of the article is to show the position of the Catholic Church towards Jews, as manifested in a selected fragment of Decretales of Gregory IX. Medieval canon law regulated the relations between Christian and Jews in the domains of cult and everyday life. The 19 canons which the relevant fragment comprises were assigned to three categories: laws relating to cult, laws concerning economic issues, and laws providing for the protection of Jews.The chief purpose of the article is to show the position of the Catholic Church towards Jews, as manifested in a selected fragment of Decretales of Gregory IX. Anglikanizm i odrodzenie katolicyzmu na tle sytuacji religijnej w XIX-wiecznej Anglii
The article describes the religious situation in the 19th-century England with special emphasis on the position of Anglicanism and Catholicism. First, it examines the situation of the Church of England with its rise of the Oxford Movement and transformation of Anglicanism into a worldwide community. Subsequently, the paper describes the renaissance of Catholicism in the new circumstances following the enactment of Catholic Emancipation Bill . Finally, it mentions the first attempts at a dialogue between Anglicans and Catholics. John Henry Newman-mistrz pióra dwóch wyznań?
The article aims at answering the question whether John Henry Newman (1801-1890), a prolific writer of the Victorian era, can be considered a wordsmith whose writing reached the highest degree of artistic mastery. The paper analyzes the most important genres Newman employed in his Anglican and Catholic periods of life, and subsequently presents the opinions of literary critics regarding the quality and value of his writing.
