Nawiązania do życia politycznego czasów stanisławowskich oraz idei filozoficzno-politycznych epoki oświecenia w twórczości teatralnej i parateatralnej Ignacego Potockiego
Ignacy Potocki was one of the foremost actors on the Polish political stage during the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski, particularly during the Great Sejm. Among other things, he was a member of the Commission of National Education. He was also marginally occupied with literature, notably with playwriting. The aim of this paper is to discuss the dramatic oeuvre of Ignacy Potocki and interpret his works in terms of the ideological message they contain.Ignacy Potocki was one of the foremost actors on the Polish political stage during the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski, particularly during the Great Sejm. Czasy napoleońskie widziane oczyma podmiejskiego plebana. Notatki księdza Bonawentury Najgrakowskiego w księdze chrztów parafii św. Michała w Gnieźnie
In 1791-1811, Rev. Bonawentura Najgrakowski would record events which were important for the town and the Polish nation in the margins of the Baptismal Register of the St Michael parish in Gniezno. In his brief notes, he placed particular emphasis on political developments which, in his opinion, were to culminate in independence of the Republic. Much of his attention focused the figure of the first French consul and later Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. To date, Rev. Najgrakowski’s notes have not become the subject of scholarly inquiry. In 1791-1811, Rev. The Category of Strangeness in the Jewish Tradition
The phenomenon of strangeness seems to be a timeless and universal problem. The feeling of alienation was especially experienced by the Jews living in the diaspora. However, the aim of this article is not to discuss the attitude of other nations towards Jews as strangers but, on the contrary, to show the attitude of Jews towards non-Jews in the biblical, rabbinic, modern and contemporary context. The analyses of the category of strangeness seem to be particularly relevant and significant in the context of the ongoing war in Israel. The phenomenon of strangeness seems to be a timeless and universal problem. Alegoria szczęśliwego panowania pędzla Jana Reisnera z łazienki ogrodu włoskiego zamku w Żółkwii
Jan Reisner’s painting from the castle in Żółkiew has been referred to on several occasions in art history literature, but the personifications depicted there were erroneously identified. In this paper, the author challenges the assertions made earlier. An iconographic analysis combines all elements of the composition into a coherent whole, thus revealing novel, hitherto unknown symbolism of the representation. The painting allegorically anticipated the state of affairs in the country after king Jan III’s return from the autumn campaign of 1684, while the choice of theme demonstrates the painter’s in-depth knowledge of antiquity, which he drew on when creating the work. Also, the allegorical import of the piece dictated where the painting would be exhibited, as the location was anything but insignificant. The painting was placed in the baths of the Italian garden of the king’s residence in Żółkiew, and hung in the middle room above the bed, as stated in the inventory of 1726, a fact established and reported for the first time in this study. These new findings have raised the cultural and artistic value of the work.
