MEDAL UPAMIĘTNIAJĄCY KRÓLEWSKĄ KORONACJĘ JANA III SOBIESKIEGO I MARII KAZIMIERY W KRAKOWIE POCHODZĄCY Z 1676 ROKU. UWAGI IKONOGRAFICZNE
The author of the article discusses in depth ten works of art (prints, numismatic pieces, sculptures) which demonstrate iconographic consistency with the obverse or reverse of the said medal. As the author argues, the medallionist sought both to reflect current events in Cracow and commemorate the beginning of the propitious reign of Jan III Sobieski and Maria Kazimiera, which would benefit the people of the Commonwealth (bear fruits), which is why he used well-known representations from 17th-century compendia of emblems as well as 16th- and 17th-century coinage and medals. The author of the article discusses in depth ten works of art (prints, numismatic pieces, sculptures) which demonstrate iconographic consistency with the obverse or reverse of the said medal. Pobożność maryjna w kontekście pism Johna Henry’ego Newmana
The article seeks to answer whether John Henry Newman (1801-1890), outstanding theologian of nineteenth-century England and a Catholic convert, was particularly worshipful of Holy Virgin Mary. He would express his piety towards the Blessed Virgin, revered as the Mother of God, through his writings. The author thus analyzes the publications from the Anglican and the Catholic periods in Newman’s life, in which the latter referred to the Mother of the Word Incarnate. In his sermons, essays, speeches, lectures and letters, the eminent representative of the English Church conveys his attitude to the Mother of God.The article seeks to answer whether John Henry Newman (1801-1890), outstanding theologian of nineteenth-century England and a Catholic convert, was particularly worshipful of Holy Virgin Mary. Racjonalność działania i jej ograniczenia
The article is discusses possible limitations of the rationalistic concept of human action within cultural theory. Here, rationality of human action is construed in terms of decision theory. Two kinds of limitations are considered: (1) resulting from non-rationalistic conceptions of human action; (2) implied by anti-individualistic approaches to socio-cultural phenomena, especially structuralist and functionalist ones. Proposed conclusions aim for a reconciliation of rationalistic theory of action and principal premises of cultural materialism. The article is discusses possible limitations of the rationalistic concept of human action within cultural theory. Między utopią socjalizmu a karykaturą Zachodu. Nie-dziecięca interpretacja świata przedstawionego w trylogii o skrzacie Nieumiałku Mikołaja Nosowa
The paper is devoted to the trilogy written by Nikolai Nosov in 1953-1965, comprising The Adventures of Dunno and his Friends, Dunno in Sun City and Dunno on the Moon all of which rank high in the canon of Soviet literature for children. The first part introduces the ideological and educational objectives that literature for children in the USSR was expected to pursue, as well as the writer himself. The author argues that Nosov’s novels, officially intended for children, offer broad interpretive possibilities for the adult reader as well. Subsequent parts provide an analysis of the instalments of the trilogy whilst focusing on the setting in which the story takes place. This approach reveals satirical references to the Soviet and American realities of the 1950s and 1960s. In the final part, the conclusions are confronted with the contemporary perceptions of the novel, drawing on the content posted online.
This paper attempts an interpretation of Nikolai Nosov’s novels about the adventures of Dunno, which enjoyed a cult status in the Soviet Union. Despite being children’s literature, they are examined in terms of themes that have little to do with young readers. The analysis is historical rather than literary, aiming chiefly to elucidate the cultural context and the social notions from the period of Khrushchev’s thaw. Here, the author undertakes to answer the questions concerning the extent to which the reality created by Nosov served to mould the socialist worldview as early as childhood and, simultaneously, whether it incidentally offered the adult reader an opportunity of intellectual escape into the officially condemned world
Ku posthumanistycznej wspólnocie. Eko-logika, czyli myślenie domem
The article is an attempt to review the ecological discourse in the light of posthuman philosophy. The main concept addressed by the author is the Anthropocene: the name of the new geological epoch, which betokens growing influence of human practices on the condition of Earth. Analyzing the concept of the Anthropocene, the author outlines its history, to date critique and related controversies (within natural sciences and humanities). The author also observes that the Anthropocene functions as an ambivalent philosophical metaphor, which underlies contemporary ecological discourse. In an attempt to challenge Anthropocene-tric thought, the author advances a new concept which, in his opinion, could replace ecology. The concept is called eco-logics, and may be defined as ‘thinking through home’.The article is an attempt to review the ecological discourse in the light of posthuman philosophy.
