Facebook Use as a Support for Academic Learning among College Students in Technological State Universities and Colleges
The main intent of this study was to explore how Facebook Groups impact the academic learning of undergraduate students. A mixed-method of research was applied in this study, in which the quantitative as a core component and the qualitative as supplemental. A sample of 590 college students of the selected State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Region VIII was the participants in this study. The researcher collected first the quantitative data and then the qualitative data were gathered second to elucidate, elaborate on, or explain the quantitative findings. The theory anchored on Cruz and Carvalho model for web 2.0 integrations that involves the constructivist, communication and collaboration tools that can be applied in the learning process and Technology Acceptance Model (TMA), to identify factors that may motivate these students to adopt Facebook for educational purposes. Results suggest that there is a significant relationship between the extent of students’ use of Facebook Groups with ease of use, the usefulness of Facebook Groups and academic performance. Furthermore, qualitative results revealed that Facebook Groups facilitate academic learning because it increases their productivity, motivation, and dissemination of information through sharing in school-related information
Online Support Management System for University of Antique
This paper discussed the development of an Online Support Management System to have a centralized system to support the information technology needs of every department of the University of Antique, in effect, to support the needs of the students. The system was developed using the modified Software Development Life Cycle Waterfall Model using six phases – Conceptualization, Technical Feasibility, Development, Pilot Testing, Creation of User’s manual, and Evaluation of Online Support Management System. Each phase must be completed before the next phase can begin and there is no overlapping in the phases.
The researcher anchors the study on Research and Development (R&D) which aims to create a new body of knowledge about existing products or processes, or the creation of an entirely new product. Unstructured interviews, document analysis, and modified survey-questionnaire adapted from ISO/IEC 25010: 2011 Systems and Software Quality Requirements and Evaluation (SQuaRE) - System and software quality models had been conducted for data collection.
The findings showed that three groups of the respondents were satisfied with the features and capabilities of the Online Support Management System and complied with the requirements or specifications based on ISO/IEC 25010: 2011 standards.
Though the respondents are satisfied with their evaluation of the developed Online Support Management System, the result revealed that there was a significant difference noted in the evaluations of the respondents. This result implies that the evaluation made by the three groups of respondents significantly differs from one another in terms of functional suitability, performance efficiency, compatibility, usability, reliability, security, and maintainability
Design and Development of a Comprehensive, Robust and KM-Scalable Database (Backend) for a PILI (Canarium ovatum Engl.) Information System
This paper presents the results of efforts to design and develop a comprehensive repository of knowledge for Pili (Canarium ovatum Engl.), an endemic crop in the Bicol Region known for its various uses. This study, in general, responds to the challenges entailed in the national government’s having identified “PILI” as the flagship commodity of the Bicol region. In particular, it seeks to address the dearth of accessible knowledge on the Pili industry. Enabling users around the world to become acquainted with this endemic crop. The database’s initial goal is to provide key facts on population dynamics of Pili crop (Canarium ovatum Engl.) varieties and is designed and structured towards knowledge management (KM) buildup.
Many similar information systems applied in agriculture were consulted and visited by the researchers in the literature such as the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI’s) comprehensive crop information system [1], and the more recent Mango Resource Information System [2] which was developed for the management of the phenotypic, genetic, molecular to chemical and other information on mango cultivars.
The breadth and depth of information in the database are designed to cater to the different needs of diverse groups of stakeholders (farmers, vendors, processors, scientists, researchers, policy-makers, teachers, and students). Its various applications range from basic Pili bio-ecological data management to e-commerce and analytics. This Pili database covers the more than 14 NSIC (National Seed Industry Council) accredited pili varieties, 200 accessions compiled from more than 150 references in partnership with more than 10 collaborators, and more than 500 pictures taken from different cultivars in the Bicol region.
At present, the database has 180 tables, enriched by the collection of various Pili related information ranging from its nomenclature, accession, NSIC registration, distribution, morphological characteristics, genetic resources, geo-mapping and characterization, propagation techniques, emerging diseases, growth and yield response, postharvest processing, to products, e-commerce, data analytics and other related data present in different cultivars. The database is normalized to handle complex queries needed to generate knowledge not only for Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) and its member-agencies but for Pili farmers/producers, vendors, enthusiasts, retail outlets, and the market as a whole. It is designed with flexibility in mind to interface and interconnect/link with other PCAARRD systems for a dynamic web of knowledge. It is believed that making information and data on Pili publicly available will enliven and invigorate the stakeholders in this industry and help boost yield/production, encourage more research and development efforts, promote innovation, step up marketability of various pili-related products, and consequently improve the living conditions of marginalized farmers and vendors
A Comparative Analysis of Various Clustering Techniques for Sales Fraud Detection
Nowadays, sales fraud increasingly becomes common in our society. In this regard, sales fraud detection must be required to prevent such schemes in every organization. This paper deals with the implementation of various clustering techniques such as k-means, k-modes, hierarchical clustering, partitioning around medoids (PAM), and also the self-organizing map (SOM) techniques to efficiently analyze and detect the presence of sales fraud. The results of the comparative analysis state that the self-organizing maps can be used efficiently to detect sales fraud as compared with the other considered clustering techniques
Integrated Student Affairs and Services Information System
Information Technology (IT) is now the backbone of today’s modern world. It mostly converts conventional processes into electronic function wherein it gives more advantage, efficiency, and saves time. Normally, one of the Information Technology product is an Information System (IS). It supports a business function that uses advanced technology comprised of hardware, software, people, network, and data. As one of the information technologist practitioners, the proponents aimed to deliver an Information System to aid the target client. The conduct of the study was approved last August 2017 which marks the start of preliminary investigation and data gathering. The program was developed using web programming and the web server. Some of the modules were designed using bootstrap while others are purely conventional web programming. The system was tested and evaluated by 71 respondents with all acceptable results. The developed Information System was successfully implemented utilizing the Short Message Service (SMS) and Quick Response (QR)-code module which makes it unique to the Related Prior Arts. It was also recommended by some Information Technology Experts to make the system online, generally, allow bootstrap to every module to make it look better and merge modules that were related to a single function
Design of a Secured Multimedia Transmission Scheme over Heterogeneous Wireless Systems
The evolution of wireless technologies has paved the way for the massively increasing availability of multimedia content in all forms from the Internet. Wireless networks consist of heterogeneous and overlapping coverages of multiple access technologies. The transmission of multimedia contents in the open wireless network system such as the Internet will always be vulnerable to security threats and possible adversary attacks. This paper deals with the analysis and design of a robust transmission security scheme capable of protecting the handshake of devices over heterogeneous wireless systems. It incorporates the features of both symmetric and asymmetric encryption schemes to ensure and guarantee a secured multimedia content transmission
Behavior Analysis of Convolutional Neural Network for Environmental Sound
Computer recognizing environmental sounds is a challenging and complex problem for a machine and an emerging field of research. In this study, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) behavior was analyzed against the environmental sounds. The performance level of the Convolutional Neural Network in identifying the environmental sounds using the parameters that we defined yields an excellent overall accuracy of 96.8%. This gives the model an excellent accurate prediction in identifying the given environmental sounds in the area of machine learning. The lowest accuracy among the group is the door knock, but the accuracy of 95.00%, still considered excellent currently in the field, and thus its parameters are fit for the environmental sounds

Bluetooth Range Expansion: Using Bluetooth Module and Arduino Microcontroller in Exchanging Messages
Bluetooth is a widely used technology in today’s mobile phones. It enables a device to communicate wirelessly without being in line of sight of another device, but Bluetooth has its own shortcomings, such as being only applicable between two Bluetooth-enabled devices at a time and its range being limited. Thus, this study aims to overcome these disadvantages by proposing a new innovation called Bluetooth range expansion that can pair two devices over a longer distance. The proposed Bluetooth range expansion utilizes two hardware devices, namely a Bluetooth module and a microcontroller, but the testing is limited to an open area. The level of acceptability of the prototype is also determined based on its design, functionality, and performance
A Study of the Multidirectional Dijkstra’s Algorithm in Solving the Shortest Route Problem
This study primarily aims to save priority routes for quick emergency response in all kinds of emergency systems using the Multidirectional Dijkstra’s algorithm. This is particularly focused on finding the shortest emergency route for a vehicle traveling from the starting node to its nearest possible destination. A fictional map will also be presented which was designed to simulate a process of Multidirectional Dijkstra’s algorithm. It sorts out the entire fastest route in the shortest amount of time that could travel multiple destinations, and then vary the destination in a short period of time. This study will benefit the government or emergency departments by giving them immediate solutions for emergency problems
