The Effect of Putter Shaft Stiffness on Putter Kinematics and Performance
The purpose of this study was to quantify the deflection of a putter shaft and determine its influence on clubhead kinematics and performance. Two putter shafts with disparate levels of stiffness, but otherwise similar properties, were tested by 15 left-handed golfers. Shaft deflection data as well as grip and clubhead kinematics were collected from 20 putts, with each shaft, for each golfer using an optical motion capture system. At impact, the flexible shaft was associated with greater lag deflection relative to the stiff shaft (p = 0.016), but this did not have a meaningful influence on performance. Although the number of successful putts was significantly greater with the stiff shaft condition (56%) relative to the flexible shaft (47%) (p = 0.023), it was logically deduced, using the collected data, that these outcomes were the result of the flexible shaft putter being manufactured with approximately 1° more static loft than the stiff shaft putter
When trauma comes to school: A teacher's journey becoming trauma-informed
Trauma-Informed practice has only recently begun to emerge into education systems in Canada. As a result, there is a dearth of research reflecting the implementation of these practices in school and classroom settings. Even less available, are in-depth qualitative studies exploring the lived experiences of teachers intentionally using trauma-informed practices. This study employs an ethnographic case study methodology to explore the experiences of a classroom teacher becoming trauma-informed. Data were collected over a seven-month period including classroom observations, field notes, a reflective journal, and various additional artifacts to represent and tell this story holistically. Holistic storytelling is a valuable approach to an in-depth understanding of any phenomenon or experience. Six themes emerged from the data that describe the teacher’s journey including: Belonging and community; greater concern for and attention to student needs; the rollercoaster of feelings and emotions; influence of new knowledge; identification of challenges and barriers; and sustainability: long-term outlook. Recommendations for implementation and future research are provided
