Linguistic, literary and civic education: the contribution of literature to foster a conscious citizenship

    No full text
Il contributo intende mostrare come l’educazione letteraria sia legata all’educazione linguistica e possa contribuire all’educazione civica. The paper explores the intersections of linguistic education, literary education and civic education. The first part of the paper is therefore aimed at clarifying areas of interest of these disciplines and their interconnections. Citizenship education is examined at European level, and then in its implementation within Italian schools. In Italy, Law n. 92/2019 has defined specific norms as far as civic education is concerned, underlining that civic education is a cross-curricular subject. The Guidelines published in 2024 provide operational and methodological indications, highlighting the preference and the importance of collaborative methodologies. In this regard, the paper focuses on the main features of cooperative learning. Finally, an operational proposal is offered, based on La Nuvola di Smog, by Italo Calvino. The story was chosen because it enables students to work closely on the narrative while reflecting both on environmental issues and on relational issues

One is all, all is one? Embracing value-driven approaches in research assessment for a resilient academic future

In recent years, the call to reform research assessment has gained significant momentum, driven by a growing recognition that the current systems often fail to align with the original mission of universities. We see an ever broadening consensus worldwide to build alternatives for evaluation systems that are entangled in a productivity-driven culture, prioritising the simplistic use of bibliometrics and prestige over the integrity, quality, and broader impact of scholarly work

Research on the exceptionally well-preserved remains of a sunken ship off Cape Letavica continued in 2024, with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia. As in the previous year, the work focused on the southern part of the site, believed to be the location of the ship\u27s galley. Among the discoveries, a fully intact amber-colored glass cup, crafted using the casting technique, stands out. Several complete or partially preserved ceramic vessels, as well as the remains of a larger metal container, were also recovered

    Lutajući spomenici Zenice

    No full text
Through archival and field research in the central Bosnian industrial city of Zenica, a comprehensive list of monuments constructed between 1878 and 2023 has been established. Additionally, the study identified all of the changes affecting these monuments over the specified period, including whether they have been preserved, wandered off, completely disappeared, or been destroyed. The research also examined how these monuments were perceived in different historical periods, what was their role in constructing ideological narratives, and what was their function in hosting commemorative gatherings. Given the large number of identified monuments and their wide spatial distribution, the study focused on four specific locations that have undergone sedimentary and erosive processes over time, sometimes occurring simultaneously. Special emphasis was placed on a comparative analysis of two case studies with different outcomes to contribute to understanding why some monuments endure while others vanish. By combining historical and ethnographic research methods, the study provided an interpretation of the relationships between monuments and space, places and commemorative practices, highlighting the importance of a community\u27s identification with symbols and narratives materialized in the form of monuments.

The article makes an attempt at a unified conceptualization of stylistic theories. Therefore, a three-dimensional space of style should be considered. One axis of this space describes rhetorical theories of style, the other refers to holistic theories, and the third relates to normative theories. First, rhetorical theories are distinguished by their instrumental nature and connection with the speaker’s intention. In this regard, theories of three styles are considered. The actual rhetorical understanding is found in the “Rhetoric to Herennium”, the treatises of Cicero and Quintilian. Among modern theories, media stylistics and creative stylistics are of a similar kind. Second, holistic theories of style do not approach the phenomenon of style from a normative or instrumental point of view and leave wide scope for hermeneutical thought. It is noted that among modern stylists the most consistent advocate of holism is academician Stanislav Gajda. Similarly, the theory of epochal styles by academician D.S. Likhachev can be considered. Third, normative theories of style have a long history, the culmination of which is the theory of norms developed by the Prague Linguistic Circle. This theory is reflected in modern functional stylistics. However, the article provides criticism of Soviet functional stylistics. Finally, it is concluded that style is either a tool (rhetoric), or a mediator of identity (holistic theories), or a mediator of relevance (functional stylistics).
