Wybrane konflikty na scenie politycznej Polski w latach 1989-2014
The main purpose of the article is to make Polish readers curious about the issue of political conflicts during past 25 years and prove them that it is not possible to get rid of them in the political sphere. After explaining the phenomenon of political conflict and the definition, presenting the genesis and methods of solving, there have been presented political conflicts since 1989. First part of the article concentrates on the Polish way to a new democratic order and present political conflicts since the first democratic governments until year 2005. The second part presents the most famous political conflict in years 2005-2014, namely the conflict between PO and PiS. The main purpose of the comparison of the conflicts over the years is to show the differences between them

For a long time, history of women was not in the mainstream of interest. The interest for this topic was not shown untill the twentieth century. The aim of this paper is to present a long and difficult struggle to gain the status similar to the one women have nowadays. It is difficult to understand the present reality without going back to the past. The role of women is undergoing a lot of changes all the time. This subject is a huge field for research. The article attempts to give a summary of publications which deal with women’s issues
Społeczna recepcja realizacji idei gender mainstreamingu na szczeblu jednostki samorządu terytorialnego (Miasto i Gmina Olsztyn)
The article focuses on the social reception of gender mainstreaming (assessing the implications for women and men of any planned action, including legislation, policies or programmes, in all areas and at all levels to achieve gender equality) at the territorial self-government level. The author conducts the work study of a few cases in different cities – in Warszawa, Nysa, Giżycko and Olsztyn – where the local authorities tried to implement the idea of gender mainstreaming. Especially, the essay focuses on articles (published in local edition of „Gazeta Wyborcza” and „Debata”) and internauts’ comments related to those texts. The author describes the social reception of gender mainstreaming and estimates the possibility of introducing gender mainstreaming directives at the territorial self-government level in Poland
"Modlitwa dla Marty" - pieśń dwóch rewolucji
This paper focuses on the legendary song entitled Prayer for Marta and its performer. It is a history of two revolutions and a famous singer’s difficult life. Both were the symbols of changes in Czechoslovakia. Both were absent in a public life as the song was banned and Marta Kubišová couldn’t perform. Nowadays, both are the icons of modern Czech history. This article describes how this song was created and sang twice. It also explains who was its author. What is more, Marta ‘s life and her view on contemporary politics are presented
Początki ruchu demokratycznego w Chińskiej Republice Ludowej (1976-1981)
China is an emerging superpower. Its economical strength contrasts the lack of free speech and other liberties crucial for a prosperous economy. The democratic opposition is almost in its demise and society has little interest in politics. However, it hasn’t always been like that. This paper shows how the democratic movement emerged and it has developed since the mourning over the death of prime minister Zhou Enlai in 1976 during the Qing Ming, or the Tomb Sweeping festival. It also focuses on the intellectual turmoil of the Wall of Democracy in 1978, where some of the most important dissidents were published. This Chinese Hyde Park was officially closed in 1979 as the wave of repressions hit the dissidents. That event became a solid foundation for the future democratic opposition

Patriotism is one of the concepts that cannot be easily interpreted. It can be seen at least two models of patriotism - „critical”, which draws attention also to the shameful experience and „conservative”, associated with the myth of proud and suffering of the Polish nation, connected also with a specific historical policy. Visible manifestation of these extreme camps are public debates on the publications of J. T. Gross, showing the Poles as perpetrators of suffering and death of many Jews

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, once said that Kosovo’s independence could be the beginning of the end for Europe, and that official recognition of its sovereignty would threaten global security. It was feared that Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence, and its recognition by European countries in particular, would open up a Pandora’s Box. The author examines the role of the United Nations in process of decolonisation of the Western Sahara. The article describes a modern history of Western Sahara focusing on the UN’s policies and activities related to this basing on resolutions, reports and other documents of the organization.The aim of the article is to present UN’s decolonisation and conflict resolution activities in Western Sahara. The text shows that the UN has remarkable achievements concerning the people of Sahara, although the main aim – self-determination of Sahrawi people by referendum – currently is unattainable because of idleness of great powers and firm stance of occupying state – the Kingdom of Morocco
