Gapienie się a prawo głosu. O przemianach obrazu niepełnosprawności we współczesnej polskiej literaturze dla dzieci
The article analyses the way in which disability is portrayed in contemporary Polish literature for children, with a particular emphasis on the latest literature. Rosemarie Garland-Thomson’s theory of the baroque stare is applied in the analysis and allows the reconstruction of a network of stares in which the disabled are entangled, and also to reconstruct the place attributed to them in society. In a number of texts, a confrontation with onlookers turns out to be an introduction to a dialogue that gives a disabled person a chance to express their feelings and needs. However, the increasingly common portrayal of disability in the social category does not free literature from stereotypes. The article analyses the way in which disability is portrayed in contemporary Polish literature for children, with a particular emphasis on the latest literature. Teoria splątana
Referring to her earlier articles, Anna Krajewska develops her own concept of “entangled theory”. Adopting the principles of operation of elementary particles in quantum physics, referred to as the “entanglement state”, she proposes to see literary studies through anti-binary, performative concepts, which include, above all, anamorphosis. She ties theory in with the process of experiencing art. She proposes to “entangle” seeing in art (the viewer in front of the painting) with the role of seeing in theory (the viewer as practising dramaturgy). In this approach, the theory appears as the theory of entanglement. In this concept, disciplines become dramaturgies.Referring to her earlier articles, Anna Krajewska develops her own concept of “entangled theory”. Muzeum, które nie może przetrwać. Wirtualne muzeum feministyczne a próby utrwalania kobiecej twórczości fanowskiej
This paper examines the history and the shape of contemporary fanfiction repositories. The notion of an archive – one that is often used to describe such spaces, and appears in their names – is contrasted with Griselda Pollock’s proposal of a virtual feminist museum. Though for decades there have been attempts at preserving fan fiction (mostly created by women, non-canonical and transgressive), the stories had been subjected to selection and censorship. With the disappearance of such practices, the repositories start to embody Pollock’s notion. At the same time, however, as the lack of censorship causes economic problems, the virtuality of such ‘museums’ no longer denotes their digital nature but their evanescence. This paper examines the history and the shape of contemporary fanfiction repositories. Splątany świat, czyli teorii sekret trzeci
This introductory article presents the act of editing an issue of a scientific journal as a kind of interface through which the act of writing and reading is entangled, a process that produces a theory in a performative way. The author considers anamorphosis, synaesthesia and entanglement (which she considers with reference to the category of a secret) to be the basis of contemporary literary and literary discourses. This introductory article presents the act of editing an issue of a scientific journal as a kind of interface through which the act of writing and reading is entangled, a process that produces a theory in a performative way. Georges Bataille – wypowiedzieć Niemożliwe
The paper discusses Georges Bataille’s endeavor to express “the Impossible” by means of specific language employed first and foremost in his works of literary fiction (L’Histoire de l’oeil (Story of the Eye), Madame Edwarda, Le bleu du ciel (Blue of Noon). This is carried out by first providing a general outline of Bataille’s philosophical thought with due attention drawn to the aporias that open up before all projects of heterology inasmuch as they seek to both approximate and communicate the experiences that elude rational thought and language which traditionally works at its service. What follows is a description and explication of the literary and performative means which Bataille employs in his fiction in order to authenticate his depictions of the “inner experience” and the figure of “the Impossible”. Several of the most prominent theoretical approaches to the specificity of Bataille’s transgresssive écriture are referred to and further contrasted with the philosopher’s consistent dissatisfaction with the limitations that language and rational, sense-oriented thought poses to the task of voicing the essence of the “inner experience”. The article concludes with the argument that even literature cannot free itself from pragmatic utility resulting from the structural limitations of language. What literature can achieve, however, is to point to the Impossible and inexpressible, and endlessly invoke and respond to it. Regarded in this way, Bataille’s revelatory language can be considered in a wider, French poststructuralist context, which emphasises the position of Heidegger as a reference point for Derrida and Blanchot. Niewypowiadalne bólu i paliatywny aspekt literatury (o Piotrusiu Leo Lipskiego)
This article deals with the issue of the articulation of pain in Leo Lipski’s Piotruś [Little Peter]. In Lipski’s novel suffering is rarely direct, but is rather a sensation evoked by another’s perception (the oppressive gaze), cultural exclusion of disabled bodies and the dramatic experience of the disintegration of reality and language itself (as the medium of interpersonal communication and understanding). On this background the author presents the palliative conceptualization of literature (revealing itself in Lipski’s micro-novel), in which the emphasis is not exactly on the possibility of essential (re)presentation of pain, but on the relieving potential of the textual transposition (translation) of sensations and feelings. This article deals with the issue of the articulation of pain in Leo Lipski’s Piotruś [Little Peter]. Ekstaza i „nicość egzystencji”. O obrazach cielesności i jej barwach w prozie Brunona Schulza
The aim of the following study is to investigate two creations of Jacob’s corporality evoking disgust in the short stories A Visitation, Birds and The Night of the Great Season from The Cinnamon Shops. My main field of interest is the connections between colours and form which surround Jacob’s body and evoke disgust. The context for the following study was the theoretical concepts of Mary Douglas, Julia Kristeva, Agata Bielik-Robson and Michał Paweł Markowski. The aim of the following study is to investigate two creations of Jacob’s corporality evoking disgust in the short stories A Visitation, Birds and The Night of the Great Season from The Cinnamon Shops. Nogi. Męskość i niepełnosprawność w Szpitalu Czerwonego Krzyża Michała Choromańskiego
In the article, the author presents an interpretation of the novel Szpital Czerwonego Krzyża by Michał Choromański. One of the key interpretative hypothesis advanced by the author of the article based on a reading of the novel is the assumption that the work constitutes an important statement on masculinity and disability, exposing the artificiality and unoriginality of masculine gender roles and criticizing somatic culture. This criticism is, in turn, significant with regard to twentieth-century reflections on body issues in post-war modernity. The author of the article indicates that Choromański’s work, written before the Second World War but published not until 1956, is a piece of significance for the reconstruction of issues of disability in terms of Polish literary history. In the article, the author presents an interpretation of the novel Szpital Czerwonego Krzyża by Michał Choromański. Literatury staropolskiej „budowa ciała” i „usposobienie, temperament”
The text is a review of the Dariusz Śnieżko’s book Kompleksja literatury. Studia staropolskie (The Complexion of Literature. Old-Polish Studies) (TAiWPN UNIVERSITAS, Krakow 2019). The only serious doubt regards the sound of the title (readers might not know the word “complexion”). Kompleksja literatury is a fascinating book. For whom? – certainly students of Old-Polish literature (and it will be also inspiring for scholars of the next historical and literary epochs). What? – revealing the most important dimensions of Old-Polish literature. Why? – because in works published so far the scant use of source texts proves to be representative of the most general material remaining of Old-Polish literature in its intertwining of anthropology and dialectics of orality and literacy. The text is a review of the Dariusz Śnieżko’s book Kompleksja literatury.
