O filozofii formalnej Miguela Ángela Asturiasa

This paper analyses the linguistic structure, creative modes of expression and stylistic properties of Miguel Ángel Asturias’s Legends of Guatemala (Leyendas de Guatemala, 1930). Furthermore, it attempts to classify Asturias’s prose fiction, which is often multifaceted, by defining the unique character of its complex linguistic mechanisms that create his debut short-story collection. All texts in Legends contain references not only to events of the Mayan cosmogony, mythological tropes and motifs (that have been developed and put into a new context), but also to their mimetic relationship with the ritual language used in the Popol Vuh. The word order variations and certain combinations of vowels and consonants, as well as the specific syntactic parallelisms and enumerations (stylistic and lexical “props”) imitate formulaic phrases which are important elements in oral style. Pre-Columbian themes – especially those chosen by the Guatemalan writer for the narrative content of his works – are full of visual symbols with rich folk meanings; the melodic sound of Asturias’s narration (and its internal rhythm) seems attuned to the worldview belonging to both particular and universal human communities. This paper analyses the linguistic structure, creative modes of expression and stylistic properties of Miguel Ángel Asturias’s Legends of Guatemala (Leyendas de Guatemala, 1930). Religijna materialność świata w powieści Grace McCleen „Świat Judyty” ” [„The Land of Decoration”]

The article discusses the novel The Land of Decoration by Grace McCleen’s applying elements of selected posthumanist theories, mainly object-oriented ontology (G. Harman, T. Morton) and new materialism (J. Bennett). It considers the assumption that in the novel, the ontological status of human beings as well as material objects is fluid, as both play the role of a prop and the entity manipulating the prop. The author focuses on the main character’s religious cognitive perspective and her relations with her (im)material surroundings. An attempt is made to point out certain similarities between the religious worldview and the posthumanist approach. To this end, the author discusses several issues related to the dualistic categories of material vs. immaterial, rational vs. irrational, as well as human vs. non-human.The article discusses the novel The Land of Decoration by Grace McCleen’s applying elements of selected posthumanist theories, mainly object-oriented ontology (G. Odkrywanie tajemnicy - rozwiązywanie zagadki. O scenariuszu telewizyjnego serialu kryminalnego (na przykładzie serialu Rojst)

Authors of the series use various scenario techniques, creating the aesthetics of a black retro-crime with consciously developed allusions to the end of the communist era in Poland. They concern: space-time, dramaturgy, props, characters and the audio sphere. Their message is, on the one hand, an expression of a certain nostalgia for the lost time, and on the other, a kind of resentment with historically deepened criticism of the reality of the time. Solving a criminal mystery becomes at the same time uncovering the mystery of a double murder and a double suicide, it also refers to a mystery from many years ago, connected by the thread of romance.Authors of the series use various scenario techniques, creating the aesthetics of a black retro-crime with consciously developed allusions to the end of the communist era in Poland. Dziwny obłęd umysłowy małej entuzjastki. Korespondencja Marii von Herbert z Immanuelem Kantem jako fan mail

The paper discusses the letter exchange between Maria von Herbert and Immanuel Kant as an early example of fan mail. While the past research on Herbert described her as a sharp but underappreciated philosopher, in this paper she is treated primarily as a fangirl. The article discusses her correspondence with Kant (and Kant’s correspondence about her exchanged with others), her use of religious language as best means of conveying her fascination with an inaccessible celebrity, the parasocial interaction of these two, and the manner in which a hysterical discourse has been imposed on the young woman, not unlike the fate of contemporary fangirls. The paper discusses the letter exchange between Maria von Herbert and Immanuel Kant as an early example of fan mail. Thomas Hettche Pfaueninsel (2014): powieść historyczna jako współczesna refleksja o Innym

The paper deals with Thomas Hettche’s novel Pfaueninsel, which is interpreted as a story about the Other. The category of otherness refers to the main character, Marie Strakon, a dwarf in the service of the King of Prussia in the 19th century, and to the place of action, Peacock Island near Berlin. Hettche’s historiographical metafiction is a fictional biography of a woman whose physical otherness places her in opposition to the orders established by humans: social, cultural, aesthetic, and historical. Peacock Island, in turn, transformed into an artificial paradise, is a heterotopic sphere of otherness contrasting with Berlin, an urban space of civilisation, progress, and the Industrial Revolution. The story of the Peacock Island biotope illustrates the emergence and evolution of ecological consciousness in the 19th century; it constitutes a motif of non-anthropocentric history being “the Other” of the ‘great’ history of humans. The paper shows how different dimensions of otherness are constructed in relation to the main protagonist and to the island space. The paper deals with Thomas Hettche’s novel Pfaueninsel, which is interpreted as a story about the Other. Herbert George Wells. Socjalizm, utopia i melancholia

The article is a review of the most important works by Herbert George Wells in terms of the relationship between futurological vision, projected ideal and knowledge about the past. Wells is usually associated with a prospective attitude, with forecasting the future and modeling its desired image. Indeed, his science fiction novels, treatises and utopias try to answer the question of the paths of civilization’s development. But this work is accompanied by constant analysis of the past, correcting the scenarios of past events and shaping their new version. On the one hand, the retroactive formation of historical matter supports a utopia with a socialist profile, and on the other, it prevents its stabilization and closes it in the circle of left-wing melancholy, as described by Enzo Traverso. Some of the writer’s progressive ideas seem to be patient self-persuasion, others – such as fantasies about “fortunate disasters” – can be understood as attempts to escape from melancholy. Breaking free from its power, however, comes at a high price: it is the end of the socialist utopia, the abandonment of the idea of progress and the optimistic history of philosophy. The article is a review of the most important works by Herbert George Wells in terms of the relationship between futurological vision, projected ideal and knowledge about the past.
