A Troubled or a Troubling Candidate – Serbian Accession to the EU
This article analyzes Serbian accession bid to the EU. Although a candidate country as of March 2012, Serbia will have to manage some painstaking reforms before being admitted into the Union. Even if negotiations over Serbian entry start next year, and date of entry negotiations is still unknown, it seems realistic that Serbia will not join the EU by the end of this decade. In that respect, main argument of this article is that Serbian entry to the EU is dependent on the following issues: battling systemic corruption and (organized) crime; relations with Kosovo; and change of political culture
Delelopment of social sciences in dissertations of Immanuel Wallerstein – implications for the theory of international relations
This paper presents an analysis of the social science development concept of Immanuel Wallerstein. In general terms we can say that the development of social sciences was based on a process of emancipation of individual subjects of research and validation of research methods.I. Wallerstein drew attention to the process of emancipation of individual disciplines, therefore we can talk about the separation of philosophy, followed by social sciences and, negatively evaluated by I. Wallerstein, applied social sciences. With the constitution of individual disciplines we dealt with the process of polarising methodological positions, which can be roughly described as the concept of two cultures. The text describes the following issues: (1) the directions of emancipation of scientific disciplines, (2) the processes of emancipation of scientific disciplines, (3) the dynamics of changes in social sciences, (4) the effects of changes occurring in sciences. In addition to the main assumptions of I. Wallerstein on science, the text attempts to confront these assumptions with the achievements of T. S. Kuhn, R. K. Merton and C. W. Mills. The aim of the article is to point out the implications for the “theory of international relations” deriving from the general trends in the development of social sciences. This issue has come down to only selected issues of: microscopisation, idealisation, metaphorical use, deformation, transcendentalisation, fictionalisation and fetishisation of notions in the “theory of international relations”
Teorie stosunków międzynarodowych w strukturze wiedzy humanistycznej o systemie światowym (cywilizacji światowej)
The paper deals with the issue of the integration of humanistic knowledge that is indispensable to describe the structure and functioning of contemporary civilization. Such knowledge is collected in the institutional framework of various branches of social sciences. Ironically, the science of international relations occupies a relatively inconspicuous position in the division of research since its present form has been mainly preoccupied with the aspect of relations between states, understood as sovereign geopolitical entities. The achievements of the world history (W. McNeill, J. Goody, K. Pomerantz), macrohistorical sociology (P. Burke, M. Mann, Ch. Tilly), and the worlds systems theory by F. Braudel and I.Wallerstein offer more inspiration and heuristic merit. The paper outlines the transdisciplinary strategy of research into global civilization. The paper deals with the issue of the integration of humanistic knowledge that is indispensable to describe the structure and functioning of contemporary civilization. Discourse on National Identity in Moldovan Politics after 2009
Throughout the 20 years of independence, different concepts of a Moldovan nation have competed in public, scientific, and political discourse. A turning point came in 2009, when the ruling Communist Party of Moldova was replaced by a pro-European coalition of self-styled liberal-democratic parties who brought about a significant pluralisation of Moldovan public life. The goal of this article is to analyse the discourse on national identity in Moldovan politics since 2009
Germany after World War II – Crucial Frontline of Intelligence Services War
After 1945 the most important everyday mission performed on the border between the cold and the hot war was, however, the one fulfilled by forces which belonged to a less visible but still extremely important formation – namely the Intelligence Services, Counter-intelligence Services and, above all, their agents and analysts. While a cold-war tension was rising and the two German states were built, a territory of the current Federal Republic of Germany turned into one of the biggest fronts of world espionage. An experience which stems from the observation of the activities of the Intelligence Services operating on the German territory indicate, that every state in the world, which is a contact point for possible confrontation of stronger subjects, becomes an object of focus for many Intelligence Services. Therefore, it is important to, apart from developing partner relations with other countries, strive for the best possible protection of the country’s own interest

Kultury, przestrzenie i technologie jako transdyscyplinarne elementy nauki o stosunkach międzynarodowych
Nowadays the main phenomenon on the international level is the constitution of the global system concerning science and research. Consequently the policy of science, research and high-education from the one, and technologies development from the other side appear as the main factors inside the International Relations. The following considerations extrapolate the main motifs also as a new theoretical orientation in the International Relations like the turns (cultural, technological and spatial), the spatiality as a paradigms of International Relation, then the changes and challenges in the high-education system with the example of the transformation of education and science in Poland after 1989.Nowadays the main phenomenon on the international level is the constitution of the global system concerning science and research.
