ICT and Education for Refugees in Transit
Refugees in transit often have no access to formal education. Indonesia as one of transit countries has allowed these community school-age children to join public school. Unfortunately, teenagers and adults do not have similar consent. As most of them are stranded for a long time to skip their basic education, there should be a bridge so that they still can catch up with their secondary or even higher education level. During their uncertain waiting time, some international and national organizations and local institutions have provided them with private classes in specific subjects. The problem is these classes are unaligned with the lesson grade in host country formal education institution, which is categorized based on learners’ ages. Moreover, they are placed in separated places (detention centre, interception, community housings) which cost time and fare to get these refugees in one education centre. The alternative solution for handling this situation is by having blended learning, a combination of online learning platform and face-to-face meeting managed by teachers both from the host country and refugees. These students although they are limited by any means, have been familiar with ICT such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Multimedia and Internet. The online learning platform will muddle through time and distance in order to support them to take Package A, B, C (National Elementary, Junior and Senior High School Equivalency) tests as these tests are admitted at work and further study in host country as well as their destination countries without age limitation
Model of Translation Textbook for Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL) Pedagogical Purpose
This study was aimed at developing the model of translation textbook for teaching English as a foreign language purpose. Therefore, Research and Development (R&D) design was applied to develop the translation textbook for TEFL pedagogical purpose. Moreover, there are four steps to develop the textbook which drafting, peer review – revise, expert review – revise and final texbook. The result of study shows the while drafting the content of the textbook were 1) preface, 2) Competences, 3) Presentation and 4) Assessment. Then from the peer review, the contents of the textbook were developed to 1) overview, 2) competencies, 3) orientation, and 4) assessment. From the expert review, the content of textbook were deveoped to 1) overview, 2) competencies, 3) orientation, 4) assessment, and 5) further reading. In conclusion, this model has been developed according to peer and expert views. Therefore, this model of translation textbook is suggested to be used in English Education Program in Indonesia

Finaly, there were some reading activities, such as critical reading and cultural bump, conducted in the classroom that could quite effectively improve the students’ intercultural awareness. Some students also responded by giving positive statements about reading skill activities so their intercultural understanding could improve. However, implementing these activities were not an easy task because the teacher needs to understand the theoritical concept of intercultural language learning
Non Equivalence at Scientific Terms in Mathematics Bilingual Textbook
This study entails the translation of scientific terms from English into Indonesian. The objectives of this study are to investigate the problem of non-equivalence at word level found in mathematics bilingual textbook and to investigate the translation strategies used. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were 89 words and phrases containing scientific terms. The data were collected through documentary technique. The technique of data analysis was interactive model. The finding of this study revealed that there were five problems of non-equivalence at scientific terms found in mathematics bilingual textbook. They were the source language concept is not lexicalized in the target language, the source language word is semantically complex, the source and target language make distinction in meaning, the target language lacks hyponym, and difference in form. To solve the problems of non equivalence, it was found that four translation strategies proposed by Baker were applicable
The Effect of Metacognitive Strategy on The English Learners’ Vocabulary Mastery
This study was aimed at investigating the effect of metacognitive strategy on the English Learners’ Vocabulary Mastery at FKIP Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This research was conducted by applying quantitative research design. The data were taken from English Learners in the classroom. This research is conducted by applying experimental research design. In this research, there are two procedures which is made to collect the data, there are treatment and test. For the first step the writer gave the treatment for each group. Experimental group got three times treatment by using metacognitive strategy and control group got 3 times treatment also by using conventional method. The test. is a test conducted after conducting the treatment. After explaining the material and giving the exercise both of the groups are given the same test to know the result of the treatment. Emotional Intelligence in Classrooms
The 21st century learning requires educators and learners to move beyond traditional academic learning. The fundamental aspects of the “Four Cs†(communication, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and collaboration) are a prerequisite for the 21st century classrooms. Learners’ emotions in classrooms are now regarded as essential. The study of emotions in classrooms is central to understand learners’ motivation and learning patterns. Nelson and Low (2003) defined emotional intelligence as a confluence of developed skills and abilities to: (1) accurately know oneself in terms of personal strengths and weaknesses; (2) establish and maintain effective and healthy relationships; (3) get along and work productively with others; and (4) deal effectively and healthily with the demands and pressures of daily living. In other words, emotional intelligence is essential to effectively manage behaviours, to navigate social situations and to make decisions. This paper discusses the significant role of emotional intelligence in classrooms as well as the effective ways to enhance learners’ emotional intelligence
Local Characteristics Content: An Analysis of ELT Textbook for Young Learners
The purpose of this study was to analyse the media used in ELT textbook for beginners based on local characteristics of students by showing the data from analysed textbook, which is inappropriate for the the young learners in Indonesia, and this media made the teaching learning process ineffective and inefficient. Descriptive research design was applied in this study. The technique for collecting the data was quantitative approach. There were three (3) textbooks commonly used in primary level grade 4 in Indonesia. Those three were analyzed based on the local characteristics of students using demographic analysis. The result shows that only 5.6% of the media was related to local characteristics of students since the rest were to related general and foreign characteristic which reached 49% and 45.4% respectively. Therefore, the reason why the Englishlearners in Indonesia particularly on primary level grade 4 could not reach the standard of English Learning was because the media was 94.4% not related to the local characteristics of students

An Analysis of Grammatical Metaphor Representation and Transgrammatical Semantic Domains in Narrative Text Entitled Three Fishes
This research is aimed to find out the easy way for students in Indonesia to understand and to translate English text to Bahasa Indonesia. In doing this research, the researcher  uses a form of a detailed examination of one setting a single subject, a single depository of documents or one particular even which is stated by Bogdan & Biklen (1992:62) as a case study. However, the descriptive qualitative research as stated by Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014) is applied in analyzing the data. Researcher realizes that Indonesian students are still very difficult to understand and translate the English texts as the texts are coded in grammatical metaphor. Although Indonesian students already get English lesson from grade school or at junior high school, but still they are difficult to understand and translate any kinds of English text. It is expected by applying transgrammatical semantic domains Indonesian students can understand the texts and can translate the English text into good Bahasa Indonesia. This narrative text entitled ‘Three Fishes’ which is a short interesting story that has a good lesson, that makes easy to understand about the topic of this research that is knowledge or competence of Grammatical Metaphor and Transgrammatical Semantic in Text which is written in English. This way Indonesian students will be more interesting to read the text because they can understand and translate the text into Bahasa Indonesia easier
