An Improved DC-DC Boost Converter for Energy Harvesting
A novel dual-input DC-DC boost converter that can perform the integration of harvested energy from solar and vibrational input energy sources is proposed. Firstly, the background of a hybrid energy system that relates to multi-input DC-DC converters is discussed, and the limitations of the current designs of power converter ICs are highlighted. A detailed design analysis of the proposed converter was done to justify its performance. A current and voltage stress analysis has been performed to ensure suitable switching devices are selected for the converter. Two different power control strategies are proposed for the DIDCB converter to manage output voltage during source and load-side disturbances. Performance analysis of the circuit is carried out using MATLAB Simulink software. Different duty ratios for power switches in the converter were tested to determine the maximum boost ratio and the highest efficiency that can be achieved by the converter. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed converter, the performance of the converter is compared with existing converter topologies. The proposed converter achieved a high efficiency of 99.4%, had less fluctuation in the output voltage, and had reduced overshoot. In addition, the proposed converter demonstrated a simpler configuration and required fewer component counts, which helped reduce the cost and size of the system.

Inheritance Right of Illegitimate Child in Malaysia: Dawn or Storm after Tan Kah Fatt v Tan Ying
Before the Federal Court’s decision in Tan Kah Fatt v Tan Ying (2023), a distinction had always been drawn between the inheritance right of a legitimate child and an illegitimate child in Malaysia. While a legitimate child has an automatic right to inherit the parents’ intestate estate, such right was not available to an illegitimate child. An illegitimate child may only inherit the intestate estate if he has been legitimised. Without legitimisation, an illegitimate child would be ineligible to succeed to his father’s intestate estate. The illegitimate child’s entitlement to succeed on his mother’s intestacy is conditioned on the absence of any legitimate issue surviving the mother. However, Tan Kah Fatt has altered this legal position. This article seeks to examine the change of the law of the inheritance right of illegitimate non-Muslim children in Malaysia, the effects of this Federal Court’s decision and some concerns about this case. Doctrinal research is employed, and the discussion is confined to the law of intestacy for non-Muslims in Malaysia only. This article suggests that amendments of relevant statutes are needed if Malaysia truly intends to equalise the illegitimate child’s inheritance right to intestate estate as that of the legitimate child
A Cross-Cultural Pragmatic Study of Online Complaints by Japanese and Malaysian Hotel Guests in English
This study examined the rhetorical moves of complaints and the complaint strategies used by Japanese and Malaysian hotel guests between two cultural groups. Swales's (1981) move analysis was applied to identify and analyse the moves, while Trosborg's (1995) taxonomy of strategies was employed to analyse the speech act of complaints. The study's objectives are to investigate the communicative moves used by Japanese and Malaysian when expressing their regret through TripAdvisor and to analyse the complaint strategies used by Japanese and Malaysians when performing complaints online. The descriptive qualitative research method was employed, and data comprised 40 negative reviews towards hotels in Langkawi. The study used online reviews from TripAdvisor's website, to examine the negative feedback from Japanese and Malaysian guests in the English language were posted. The findings showed that the complaints' communicative moves had six moves: Opening, Dissatisfaction, Explanation, Recommendation, Closing, and Compliment, which were adapted from Morrow and Yamanouchi (2020). Moreover, findings of the move frequencies revealed that both the Japanese and Malaysian hotel guests would elaborate their frustration in detail as the 'Explanation' move. However, Malaysian travellers indicated more reasons and sequences of frustration than Japanese travellers. Furthermore, the sequence of the moves is not in a proper structure of conveying a complaint on TripAdvisor, whereby the 'Compliment' move was found either in the beginning, in the middle or in the ending parts of the text. Taxonomy of the complaint strategies by Trosborg (1995) was verified as follows: 1) 27.5% of No Explicit Reproach, 2) 35% of Disapproval Expression, 3) 22.5% of Accusation, and 4) 15% of Blame. In summary, the findings revealed that the two groups have comparable approach selections but differ in terms of complaint moves, complaint strategies, and language phrases for expressing frustration. Thus, knowing cross-cultural similarities and differences in speech acts can help avoid possible intercultural miscommunication, and managing negative customer reviews is pertinent for the hotel industry to improve intercultural communication
The Impact Of The Telecommunication Industry As A Moderator on Poverty Alleviation and Educational Programmes To Achieve Sustainable Development Goals In Developing Countries
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of the telecommunications industry's contribution to sustainable development in developing nations. A detailed literature study is conducted for this purpose, and a conceptual framework is offered. To validate the proposed conceptual framework, we conducted multiple case studies involving companies in the telecommunications industry from various countries. These findings improved the suggested conceptual framework produced for this study. However, despite the contributions of the telecommunications industry to the Sustainable Development Goals, no study has been conducted to examine how they have benefited poverty reduction and educational programmes in Sri Lanka. The overall purpose of this research is to investigate the role of multinational telecommunications firms as a moderator in achieving sustainable development goals through poverty and education efforts. This study will use a positivist approach. The researchers' research technique would be deductive since they want to draw conclusions based on the hypotheses produced on the questionnaire as part of the quantitative research procedure. The quantitative approach was employed as the primary data collection method. As part of the preliminary research, the telecommunications industry, and academics with a doctorate degree in socioeconomics were questioned. The preliminary study findings revealed that the telecommunications industry has played a significant role in accomplishing sustainable development goals in many countries, and the current study concentrated on developing nations with a particular focus on Sri Lanka. The major findings of a pilot study indicated that contact between the communications industries is required for linkages and spillovers that may assist nations' sustainable development. Furthermore, our findings indicated that increased contributions to education might help Sri Lanka achieve its poverty eradication and sustainable development goals
Enhancing Migraine Management System through Weather Forecasting for a Better Daily Life
A migraine is a severe, throbbing, or pulsing headache that typically affects one side of the head. A migraine attack can be so painful that it interferes with daily activities and can last for hours or even days. Migraine is a common health issue that affects approximately 1 in every 5 women and 1 in every 15 men. Additionally, millions of people worldwide suffer from migraine attacks due to the inability to anticipate or adapt to their environment. In today's globalized world, mobile phones have become a necessity for the general public, enabling communication, internet shopping, food purchases, and even health applications. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop a mobile application that serves as an online migraine management system that is responsive to meteorological conditions. The app was created using development tools such as Android Studio, Visual Code Studio, Flutter framework, and Firebase Firestore, which act as databases. This report also includes essential information on migraines and a comparison of similar or existing applications. In addition, the research is designed to provide a reliable and user-friendly interface for collecting migraine data for robust evidence, processing relevant demographic features such as medical history, and generating reports. While researching topics relevant to the application, we found a scarcity of data on weather-based migraines. As a result, the system will predict the impact and risk of migraine based on Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) data provided by migraine patients as well as weather forecasts. With the features of this research, migraine patients can hopefully better prepare themselves for their daily routine and manage their symptoms more effectively
Multi-Label Classification with Deep Learning for Retail Recommendation
Selecting the right retail business for a location is crucial for the success of a business because it determines the likelihood of favourable return on investment. One common approach used in retail recommendation is multi-class classification, where retail businesses are categorized into different classes or categories based on various features or attributes. Existing research in the field of retail recommendation has extensively proposed and evaluated different algorithms, techniques, and approaches for multi-class classification in the context of retail recommendation, however, limited work has been focusing on formulating retail recommendation as a multi-label problem. This is because in retail recommendation, one location can fit multiple retail businesses so that it can provide more options to recommend the most suitable business for the location. Therefore, multi-label classification will be attempted in this study. An analytical dataset will be constructed that provides comprehensive insights into the characteristics of the business area, and subsequently employ deep learning technique for multi-label classification. The analytical dataset is constructed based on the list of sites of interest data from YellowPages, population data from Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) and property data sourced from brickz.my. This work will be focusing on implement deep learning technique which is 1D convolutional neural network (CNN) model. The findings showed that the proposed model achieved 61.22% in terms of accuracy
The Impacts of the use of Thematic & Chronologic Multi-modal Information Representation on Sequential and Global Students’ Historical Understanding
This study examined the two different modes of multi-modes information presentations that affected sequential and global learners' history understanding: thematic and chronological. A total of 134 secondary schools’ students were enrolled (69 learning in chronological mode, 65 learning in thematic mode). Before the start of the treatment session, students were given a pre-test. The results showed that multimodal information presentation did not have a significantly great impact on historical learning or between pupils who learn in chronological and thematic ways. The chronological frame of reference technique, which reflected an interactive timeline, was reported to have supported students' sequential learning in chronological mode. Students who learned in thematic mode, on the other hand, had greater gains in points of historical understanding than students who learned in chronological mode. Students who exhibited a significant difference in their assessment of historical understanding proved the effectiveness of multimedia information presentation in acquiring history-related abstract ideas
