Accentuating stylistic features in the narrative technique of Hikayat Gul Bakawali: (Penyerlahan fitur stilistik dalam teknik naratif Hikayat Gul Bakawali)
This article describes stylistic features found in Hikayat Gul Bakawali, an ancient love tale of Indian origin translated into Classical Malay in 1875 from an Urdu prose version composed by Nihal Chand Lahori entitled, “Mazhab-e ‘Ishq, urf Gul-e Bakawali,” (The Religion of Love, or the Rose of Bakawali), published in Calcutta in 1804. Although the original tale stems from within the Hindu world view, the Urdu version of 1804 firmly situates the tale within an Islamic framework. Under study is the first known Malay translation by Munsyi Syaikh Muhammad Ali bin Ghulam Husain al-Hindi, a literary scholar of Indian origin living perhaps in one of the cultural centres of the Malay peninsula, who acquired a fine mastery of Classical Malay literature and translated several religious and linguistic texts directly from Arabic as well. The thrust of the discussion is upon the translation and analysis of specific passages, presented successively with emphasis on certain themes or rhetorical strategies. The power of binary oppositions is emphasized on all levels, from that of the description of the characters, to oppositions on the semantic level in many passages. Of interest is the character development of the hero, a human prince in love with the Fairy Princess Puteri Bakawli. Analysed are the hero’s use of language in describing himself to attract the empathy and assistance of his addressees, as well as the narrator’s description of the hero’s bravery and persistence as a faithful lover never to give up on in his quests
Subtitling Malay taboo language into English: The case of The Assistant (2022): (Penyarikataan elemen tabu bahasa Melayu dalam bahasa Inggeris: Penelitian filem The Assistant (2022))
Taboo refers to social and behavioural proscriptions which may instigate discomfort in society, both in language use and psychical behaviour. In audiovisual translation, the emphasis on taboo is often placed on its relative audience reception and the enforcement of relevant laws and regulations. Akin to the nature of audiovisual products, subtitling taboo references also warrants multimodal consideration, especially in relation to both verbal and nonverbal elements. This study, in particular, aims to probe into the taboo language of subtitling from Malay into English. The film The Assistant (2022), which was released on the online streaming platform Netflix, is selected as the corpus. To this end, a parallel corpus was developed and subsequently analysed using AntConc and AntPConc. Frequency, thematic and translation strategy patterns were mapped and descriptively analysed. In general terms, the analysis reveals that the taboo words in the source text are multifaceted, predominantly exclamatory, and markedly explicit. Many of the taboo loads are also found to be equally rendered into the target text, which corresponds to Netflix’s no-censorship policy. The study also learns the omission of some references in the translation, which can be partly linked to the technical and structural constraints of subtitling

ABSTRACT
The Proclamation of Emergency in the Federation of Malaya in 1948 witnessed the Communist movement, led by the Malayan Communist Party (PKM), actively engaging in armed operations and subversive activities across the entire Malay Peninsula, including the state of Kedah. In Kedah, the districts of Sik and Baling faced the Communist threat, which was perceived as a significant threat to security, leading to a sense of panic among the local population during that period. Consequently, this study aims to examine the influence of Communism in the Sik and Baling districts of Kedah from 1948 to 1989. The primary objective of this study is to assess the impact of Communism in the Sik and Baling districts during this period. The scope of this research exclusively focuses on Communist activities in these districts, excluding other areas within Kedah. The chosen time frame spans from 1948 to 1989, a selection driven by the proclamation of the emergency in 1948 and the signing of the Hatyai Peace Agreement in 1989. This study employs a historical methodology involving various actions such as heuristics, criticism, analysis, and historiography. Research materials and sources were obtained from the National Archives of Malaysia, the Kedah/Perlis branch of the National Archives of Malaysia, the State Public Library of Kedah, the Main Library of the University of Malaya, the Tun Sri LAnang Library, the National University of Malaysia, and others. The study\u27s findings indicate that the Malaysian government successfully managed the Communist threat in both districts. This success was further reinforced by the historic peace agreement on December 2, 1989, between the Communists, the Malaysian government, and Thailand, which led to the Communists agreeing to cease their armed struggle that had lasted for 41 years. This historic event instilled confidence in the people regarding the government\u27s ability to protect their safety and strengthened their trust and loyalty to the government.
INTEGRATING IOT AND MOBILE APPLICATIONS FOR EFFICIENT PLANT WATERING: THE IOT SMART WATERING SYSTEM (SWS)
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the connection with networks and devices that can exchange data through the Internet without human intervention. A mobile application is a software system that runs on a mobile device. The absence of smart detection in the existing system is insufficient for watering the plantation. This brought some problems, as no one knew about the condition of the plantation, and caused overwatering and under-watering problems. Therefore, combining IoT concepts and mobile applications has adapted to make the system a more innovative automated system. The IoT Smart Watering System (SWS)” focuses on building an intelligent watering system that will sense the humidity of the soil and the temperature of the environment using the sensor. Then, the data will be sent to the user’s mobile application using the internet to allow users to view it. The objective of this project is to let the user know about the condition of the plant and smart watering based on the condition. Compared with the existing system, the advantage of this system is that the user can automatically monitor the status of the data from mobile phones. This system is developed for everybody who wishes to have this system, such as homeowners, farmers, and students using an Android mobile device. In this project, the waterfall method was implemented as a software development process to ensure the successful development of the system and meet the user’s requirements. The existence of the IoT Smart Watering System will benefit society by preventing the waste of water and minimizing human intervention. This could save users time and enhance the watering plant\u27s effectiveness. In the future, a notification and view data graph feature will be integrated into this system

A Web-Based Industrial Training Management System: A Case Study of the School Of Computing
Implementing an internship program is an integral part of an educational institution\u27s academic operations, providing students with valuable experience in their chosen fields. However, effective program management ensures seamless collaboration between students and the university. This paper aims to develop and evaluate a prototype of a web-based industrial training management system tailored specifically for a university to address this need. Currently, the school uses online storage and an instant messaging application to manage student internships. Consequently, this implementation causes confusion, repeated questions, and redundant announcements that must be organised systematically. This development focuses on managing documentation, announcements, and communication among students and school members. The project employs a Rapid Application Development methodology to streamline the entire process from initiation to completion. The findings show high satisfaction with the system’s usefulness, ease of use, and learning in improving the management of industrial training processes. In conclusion, the resulting prototype demonstrates the potential benefits, including improved accessibility, streamlined internship management processes, and efficiency within the university
LEGAL IMPLICATIONS ON THE CORPORATISATION OF MALAYSIA WATER SERVICES AND INSIGHT FROM SINGAPORE WATER SERVICES INDUSTRY
The corporatisation of Malaysia\u27s water services marks a significant shift in governance and regulation, transitioning from public ownership to corporatised entities operating under the asset-light model. This article explores the legal implications of this transition, focusing on the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (WSIA) and the related legal framework. Through doctrinal legal analysis, this study examines the impact of corporatisation on governance, tariff setting, financial sustainability, and regulatory compliance. The analysis also highlights the federal government’s role in providing financial support, while addressing challenges faced by water operators; particularly the need to balance commercial objectives with public service obligations amidst low tariffs and operational inefficiencies. Insights from Singapore’s water services industry also offer valuable lessons for Malaysia, particularly in relation to governance and public-private partnerships (PPPs) that promote sustainable water management. The findings suggest that while corporatisation presents potential benefits, significant challenges remain in ensuring that regulatory frameworks are equipped to support both efficiency and public service delivery. The study concludes by recommending improvements to Malaysia’s water services governance, informed by lessons from Singapore, and by addressing key regulatory and financial obstacles
