    No full text
Purpose – Given the research gaps identified in a literature review, this study aims to uncover how the intensity of learners’ motivational behavior and its predictors vary with grade level. Methodology – A large-scale survey was conducted to examine motivational behavior and its predictors among EFL learners across three education levels and ten grades in Taiwan: primary school (Grades 3 to 6), junior high school (Grades 7 to 9), and senior high school (Grades 10 to 12). A total of 12,441 valid cases were collected from both rural and urban areas in Taiwan. ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Findings – The results showed a significant effect of grade level on the intensity of motivational behavior. Specifically, learners’ intensity of motivational behavior tended to decline with grade level (years of study). The significant predictors of motivational behavior also differed with grade level.  Significance – In addition to theoretical and methodological contributions to L2 motivation research, this study can enhance understanding of factors that could enhance learners’ motivational behavior and offer implications to assist EFL teachers in developing motivational teaching strategies.

    No full text
The implementation of Computer Science (CS) in Malaysian secondary schools aims to develop digital proficiency among youths. Despite this, Kedah state has seen fluctuating enrolment in CS elective subjects for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam between 2018 and 2021, which contrasts with the increasing popularity of CS programs in higher education and the rising demand for CS skills.Addressing the challenges teachers face in delivering CS subjects is crucial, including issues like inadequate training, limited resources, language barriers, and diverse student backgrounds. This study uses a quantitative approach with self-developed questionnaires distributed among experienced CS teachers in Kedah to identify these challenges and propose solutions. Findings reveal a mix of experienced and less experienced teachers, mostly with medium-level proficiency. The study highlights difficulties in teaching Form 4 and Form 5 content and suggests improvements through professional development, collaboration, hands-on experiences, and updated resources to enhance teaching effectiveness and better align secondary education with higher education and job market needs

Purpose – Due to the dynamic nature of schools, the Department of Education currently faces significant issues including low teaching quality, teacher shortages, absenteeism, poor school climate, lack of well-trained and motivated instructors, and instability. Total Quality Management (TQM) is often linked to the school environment, teacher satisfaction, and performance, playing a crucial role in improving the quality of education. This paper aims to identify how teacher job satisfaction and school climate influence the relationship between TQM and school performance.  Methodology – A total of 346 teachers from Pakistan’s highperformance schools and low-performance schools, with diverse positions and wage scales, were chosen as participants in this study using stratified random sampling. Data was collected quantitatively using a survey inquiry and SPSS version 24 was utilized to analyze the data and answers the study questions. The mediation procedure was evaluated using the Sobel test. Findings – Findings showed that the TQM variable has the highest mean value (mean=4.87) compared to the other variables tested, namely job satisfaction, school performance and school climate. According to the study’s findings, TQM, job satisfaction, and school climate all have a favourable and significant direct influence on school performance. Additionally, school climate and job satisfaction variables were found to be partial mediators linking TQM and school performance. Significance – This study significantly enhances school quality management through a positive environment and capable human resources. The findings are also anticipated to encourage the Pakistan government to establish organizational management and educational leadership training courses to emphasise the significance of TQM and its most efficient use in the education sector.

This paper examines transformations undertaken by the Malaysian government in reforming its deportation policy, operation, and enforcement. It focuses on the post-2008 period during which Malaysia embarked on several reform initiatives, notably the introduction of biometric technology, the implementation of the National Blue Ocean Strategy, and the establishment of a National Task Force under military leadership. This paper aims to analyse the implementation of the reforms and the implications of these initiatives. The analysis draws upon parliamentary debates, ministerial documents, legal texts, online news media and secondary literature. This paper has found the following three findings. First, deportation could be conceptualised as a migration control strategy to achieve zero irregularity. Second, Malaysia’s deportation regime is increasingly technologically driven, integrated, and militarised. Third, Malaysia has established a network of border and migration management databases centred on the identification, monitoring, and surveillance of individuals. The integration of biometrics technology in interior enforcement has led o the emergence of a digital border.

    No full text
Tax incentives have been used as tools to encourage investments and tax compliance from businesses. Little is known about the effect of tax incentives on tax compliance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.  The study, therefore, investigated the effect these tax incentives (the Nigerian government tax exemption to MSMEs with income of a particular threshold and low-interest financing) have on the tax compliance of MSMEs in Nigeria. The study adopted quantitative research and administered questionnaires to MSMEs in Nigeria. Guided by the theories of social influence and slippery slope, the study employed the regression technique for the analysis and concluded that tax incentives have a significant effect on the tax compliance of MSMEs in Nigeria. Also, tax exemption and low-interest financing have a significant effect on the tax compliance of MSMEs in Nigeria. The study has contributed to the body of knowledge by showing the effect the government tax policy of tax exemption to MSMEs has on tax compliance. The different incentives of government are not sufficiently communicated to these businesses to take advantage of. It is, therefore, recommended that government policies especially on incentives to MSMEs should be well broadcast through different social media platforms for them to benefit
