    EFFECTS OF DIGITAL GAME-BASED LEARNING ON PRODUCT INNOVATION SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN APPLIED ARTS AND APPLIED SCIENCE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

    Purpose - This study investigates how Digital Game-based Learning (DGBL) impacts the development of product innovation skills among undergraduate students, comparing the performance of students across different disciplines—Applied Arts (AA) and Applied Sciences (AS).  Methodology - The study involved 80 undergraduate students: 40 students pursuing an AA degree and 40 pursuing an AS degree. Thedesign of the innovation game incorporated cognitivist learning strategies based on Bloom’s taxonomy. Innovation skills were evaluated through an open-ended achievement test.  Findings - The study revealed that DGBL effectively enhances product innovation skills by integrating cognitive strategies, and Bloom’sTaxonomy into guided answers, and open-ended achievement tests. AS students excelled in problem identification and idea creation,while AA students emphasised psychological, emotional factors and visualisation representation.  Significance - The findings suggest promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among educators and policymakers to integrate aesthetics and technological knowledge. This approach enables students from diverse disciplines to leverage their strengths for holistic innovation. For practical applications, game designers and educators can model product innovation steps, offer guided answers, track progress and award virtual badges. The open-ended achievement test is a valuable tool for assessing innovation skills across diverse student backgrounds. Future studies should focus on integrating cognitivism and constructivism in collaborative learning, using generative AIassisted assessment, and bridging virtual idea generation with real-world product idea pitching using voice-input technologies. In conclusion, this study provides practical guidelines for implementing DGBL in product innovation, influencing education, policy-making, and design practices.

    LEVERAGING WEB SCRAPING TO GATHER TOURISM INFORMATION DATA

    The influence of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) on both individuals\u27 daily lives and the economy is of significant importance. In this context, the tourism industry plays a crucial role, and it is essential to recognise the contributions of tourists in terms of sharing their experiences through tourism websites. Analysing this data is key to improving future tourists\u27 experiences. Therefore, the objective of this study is to employ web scraping to gather data on places of interest (POI) and user attributes, specifically in the state of Melaka via the TripAdvisor website. Melaka is chosen as it is one of the places recognised by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The study focuses on the 200 POI locations (UNESCO) Map, encompassing both Melaka\u27s core and buffer zones. These POIs are categorised into four heritage types: built heritage, natural heritage, personal heritage, and living heritage, with some belonging to more than one category. For the data collection process, this study utilised the TripAdvisor website and extracted a total of 14 attributes. Specifically, 27282 user data entries were collected from 163 POIs in the core zone area, and 8305 data entries from 37 POIs in the buffer zone area. The data is managed and stored in various formats, including CSV, JSON, and Excel files in the repository. The data helps in the development of a tourism application. Furthermore, the tourism industry can benefit from this study by enhancing their services and conserving the cultural heritage

    EXPLORING THE MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS INFLUENCING YOUTH ATTENDANCE AT BADMINTON MATCHES

    Sports play a significant place in Malaysian culture, serving as both a spectator and participant activity. Organized badminton events have the potential to enhance sport tourism revenue by drawing in both local and international fans keen to support their favourite teams. Understanding the motivations of specific market segments, particularly the youth, is vital for effective sports industry marketing. However, a lack of motivation among youth to attend badminton events can lead to diminished interest in these events. Consequently, this study aims to examine the factors influencing the motivation of youth to attend badminton matches in Malaysia. The study\u27s sample comprises 341 students from UUM, selected through convenience sampling technique. The findings reveal that self-esteem is the foremost motivation for attending badminton matches (mean=4.31), followed by factors of group (mean=4.30), family (mean=4.17), entertainment (mean=4.08), escape (mean=3.98), eustress (mean=3.94), and aesthetics (mean=3.37). Furthermore, most respondents identify as badminton fans, indicating potential growth opportunities for the badminton industry. Understanding fan motivations can enable the industry to better meet their needs, thereby contributing to its expansion and success. This study underscores the importance of engaging youth in badminton events to foster sustained interest and participation in sports tourism initiatives

    ENHANCED NETWORK SECURITY: A DATA MINING APPROACH TO INTRUSION DETECTION

    In the ever-evolving landscape of network security, the role of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) is critical. These systems serve as the guardians of digital networks, defending against a relentless tide of cyber threats. However, the efficacy of IDSs in accurately detecting and preventing these threats remains a critical concern. The emergence of new attack vectors and the growing sophistication of cyberattacks underscore the need for innovative approaches to intrusion detection. Nonetheless, there is an information vacuum about the efficacy of different data mining approaches in intrusion detection. This study investigates the deployment of seven data mining models, which include Decision Tree, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes, and two types of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) on five (5) IDS benchmark datasets. Based on the undertaken experiments, it is evident that the RNN is the best classifier as it obtained 100% accuracy for all datasets. Due to its strength in modelling time-dependent and sequential data problems, RNN has become powerful in predicting future attacks. As our digital world evolves, so must our cyber defences; hence, this study strives to equip network security professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to fortify their networks, ensuring resilience against the ever-adaptive landscape of cyber threats

    USER REQUIREMENT FOR WEB-BASED PROCEEDINGS REPOSITORY

    Conference is a popular platform for academics to exchange knowledge and engage with one another. The conferences typically produce collections of papers, known as conference proceedings, which are often published online as open-access resources to facilitate more comprehensive access and dissemination of knowledge. Consequently, there has been a significant increase in articles on online conference proceedings. However, the absence of an organised management system has made it increasingly challenging for users to locate and retrieve specific proceedings. To address this issue, this study proposes implementing a digital repository system to simplify the sharing and distributing of conference proceedings articles. The primary goal of this project is to provide a sustainable solution for storing and accessing conference proceedings, characterised by its reliability, efficiency, effectiveness, and user-friendliness. Such an enhancement is anticipated to boost research productivity and quality. In this article, we present the system requirements for the repository. Subsequently, based on these requirements, we have developed a prototype called the Web-based Digital Repository for Proceedings Articles (WDR). We conducted a field study to assess the prototype\u27s usability, and the evaluation results indicate that WDR is both practical and user-friendly

    The Design and Development of Mobile Application Navigation: UUM Navigate Campus Companion

    In recent years, the proliferation of mobile devices has revolutionised the accessibility and functionality of location-based applications, rendering traditional computer devices less effective for real-time location tracking and navigation. Recognising this shift, this paper presents the design and development of "UUM Navigate: Campus Companion," a mobile application specifically tailored for students at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The application is designed to assist new and lower-semester students in navigating the campus, accessing essential service facilities information, and find answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about UUM. The development process of UUM Navigate followed the ADDIE model, encompassing five key stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The evaluation phase was conducted in two parts: formative and summative assessments. Formative evaluation involves expert reviews to gather feedback for refining the application during its development. A summative evaluation was conducted post-development and aimed to collect 35 user responses through a survey distributed to UUM students via Google Forms. The survey assessed the application\u27s usefulness, ease of use, and overall user satisfaction. The results indicate that despite the introduction of the application, many new and lower-semester students still need help locating classrooms and often need to be made aware of available campus services and facilities. However, most users provided positive feedback regarding the application\u27s performance, highlighting its value as a practical tool for new students. The findings affirm the usefulness of the UUM Navigate: Campus Companion in enhancing campus navigation and accessibility for students, particularly those in their early semesters

    FACTORS INFLUENCING STUDENTS BEING DECEIVED IN PYRAMID SCHEME IN MALAYSIA

    Since the middle of the 20th century, multi-level marketing (MLM) became a way of doing business. Unfortunately, not every MLM opportunity is a legitimate business opportunity. Many pyramid schemes, frauds plotted to part the unwary from their money, are disguised. The syndicate activities behind the MLM had targeted university students to make a profit through participation in their business. Therefore, this study intended to measure the factor that might affect the involvement of students being duped in pyramidschemes, including the ambitious, desire to try, surrounding society, family background, and deceived by advertising. This study examines the relationships between the ambitious with being duped in pyramid schemes. This study employed a quantitative method where a questionnaire is used as a method in the collection of the data. The hypothesized relationships are tested using survey responses from 119 university students in Malaysia. The finding of the study revealed that two determinants had a positive relationship being deceived in pyramid schemes among the students: family background and surrounding society. This study’s findings are able for universities and industries can revise their policies to discern the extent of student involvement in the pyramid scheme businesses and take the initiative to help students who fall into this scheme

    Career administration is essential for achieving career goals, relying on efficient management, particularly through job autonomy and transformational leadership. Research indicates that promoting job autonomy and implementing transformational leadership positively impacts employees’ career success, including promotions and satisfaction. However, practical issues such as inconsistent management practices and lack of support for job autonomy have hindered career success in many organizations. This study addresses these industry challenges by examining how job autonomy and transformational leadership influence career success within Malaysian government agencies from an Islamic perspective. By recognizing the difficulties employees face in maintaining efficiency and job performance, this research aims to understand how organizations can utilize career administration strategies to overcome these obstacles and enhance employee career success. A survey of 215 employees revealed two significant findings: firstly, career administration is positively and substantially correlated with promotions, and secondly, career administration positively linked to career satisfaction within the organization. These results highlighted the importance of career administration as a factor affecting career success. The study contributes to our understanding of how organizations can foster a positive work environment able to lead to a better organizational outcome

    This study provides a comprehensive exploration of entrepreneurship education in Malaysia, focusing on institutional and government initiatives to stimulate innovation, economic growth, and job creation. Despite compulsory entrepreneurship subjects in public universities, a significant rise in graduate entrepreneurs remains elusive. The study assesses the state of entrepreneurship programs in Malaysian institutions and benchmarks them against Babson University in the United States. Content analysis and interviews scrutinize program outcomes and course offerings in Universiti Utara Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan comparing them with Babson University. Secondary data, obtained through desktop reviews, illuminate Malaysia\u27s entrepreneurship education courses, assessed through university websites. Literature searches across databases and primary qualitative data offer in-depth insights, employing a mixed-methods approach to comprehensively address the research problem. Triangulation enhances data credibility, while qualitative and quantitative data from experienced entrepreneurs illuminate practical implications. Findings underscore the need for foundational entrepreneurship education, practical skills, and diverse courses. They emphasize a shift from a grade-centered to an experiential learning-focused approach, echoing calls for educational reform

    APPLICATION OF BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS ON ROOT GROWTH ALGORITHM

    The root growth algorithm has often been used to solve challenging optimization issues. It is one of the metaheuristic algorithms inspired by root growth in plant behaviors. An article reviewed and analyzed bibliographic data on metaheuristics but is not specific on the topic of root growth algorithm. Therefore, this article presents a bibliometric analysis based on the topic of the root growth algorithm. It reviews the publication from the Scopus database. Based on the search process done on 14 February 2023 using the keywords of root growth algorithm, this article managed to gather 1836 articles from 1976-2023. However, this article only focuses on Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics to ensure it relates to the area the researcher wants to explore. Moreover, articles in the year 2023 will also be excluded due to incomplete data. After the researcher limited the data to those areas, it was reduced to 837 articles. This article uses three types of software: Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer software, and Harzing’s Publish or Perish software to analyze the frequency, visualization mapping, and citation metrics analysis, respectively. The finding from the bibliometric analysis shows the researcher has noticed that the total publication keeps increasing rapidly from 2014 until 2022. The country that contributes the most to the root growth algorithm topic is China. Furthermore, the most productive author is Chen, H. and all the top 10 productive authors are from China except for Christofides, P. D., who comes from the United States. The top 10 sources of root growth algorithm research contributed over a quarter of the total articles (231 or 27.60%). The results of this study have significant implications for increasing the number of practices using the root growth algorithm in future research. Last but not least, bibliometric analysis on the topic of root growth algorithm is needed to identify influential publications, understand research trends, evaluate research impact, and identify potential research gaps in a concise manner, which helps researchers and readers stay informed, make informed decisions, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field
