LINKING CORPORATE TRUST, CORPORATE IMAGE, AND CUSTOMER LOYALTY: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF PERCEIVED DECEPTION

    No full text
Deceptive advertisement is a primary factor affecting customer loyalty because when people do not receive what they expect from advertisements, they tend to avoid using those brands. Although past researches have addressed the perceived deception in advertisements and its impact on customer loyalty, there is a lack of studies focusing on the mediating role of corporate trust, corporate image, and perceived deception in relation to customer loyalty. Household consumers were chosen as the target population due to their exposure to advertisements. A sample of 250 individuals participated in this study. Smart PLS was used for data analysis. This study confirms that perceived deception, corporate trust and corporate image play a significant mediating role in establishing customer loyalty. The findings of this study can assist marketers in developing new designs and strategies that do not mislead customers. It will also help marketers to identify the factors that should be considered when designing advertisements

VISUAL ART AS A TOOL TO LEARN ABOUT LITERATURE

    No full text
Purpose - Art forms such as music and drama are among some recognised tools used by educators. This has sparked interest in how art can be used in education, making it a fertile field for educational research. However, there is a missing connection in how drawing can be used as a tool for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students to learn about literature. Methodology - This paper will incorporate an Arts-Based Research (ABR) method to determine how visual art, particularly drawing, can be used as a tool to advance EFL students’ understanding of a selected literary text, Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” (2015) This qualitative study, viewed through the lens of Richard Mayer’s Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML), involved 10 EFL participants and revealed strategies for integrating drawing that are absent in traditional approaches. Additionally, Hameed’s (2022) elements of art, Yenawine’s (2014) Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), and Showalter’s (2003) concepts of literature learning will be included to ground the framework of the intervention. Findings - This study can be regarded as a method to liberate traditional teaching practices into contemporary approaches, serving as a tool to merge cultural knowledge while improving confidence, higher-order thinking skills, and expression. It also allows educators to be flexible and provoke more reflection and participation. The data discusses three main strategies in exploring how integrating drawing can help EFL students learn about literature: mining to trigger thoughts, engaging with the senses, and giving permission to wonder. Visual art allows individuals to create their responses by exploring new ideas and representing emotions, confirming plans, and comprehending the deeper level of literary texts. Significance – The study will offer insight and work as an alternate strategy for educators and learners alike to utilise visual art as a tool in teaching and learning literature. The findings will also ease the alarming condition where literature teaching and learning are stereotyped as daunting

    No full text
This paper addresses the critical problem of low back pain (LBP) among firefighters, particularly during hose rolling operations. The main objective is to lower the average probability of LBP risks by introducing a motorized hose roller for such activities. The development of this tool is guided by prior studies which included a survey. The design and fabrication processes of the motorized hose roller involved assessing existing patents for novelty, employing Solid Work software for design, using a morphological chart for concept selection, and finalizing fabrication through metal casting and wiring. Based on the experiment that had been conducted, the conventional hose rolling methods recorded an average LBP risk probabilities of 58.22%, while the motorized hose rolling tool method significantly reduced these risks to 17.44%, representing a 40.78% reduction of LBP risks. These findings highlight the effectiveness of motorized hose rolling tool and its potential as a safer alternative to existing methods, offering vital insights for improving occupational health and safety in hose rolling operation. This research further explores the design and fabrication of motorized tools, emphasizing their potential to alleviate the physical loads encountered by firefighters

RESOLVING THE CONFLICTS BETWEEN THE PHILIPPINES AND MALAYSIA: MEDIATION ON THE SABAH DISPUTE AND ITS IMPACT ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC COOPERATION (1986-1998)

    No full text
Territorial disputes frequently emerge in the wake of new nationstates asserting their sovereignty and expanding their influence. These claims often hinge on the nebulous grounds of historical entitlement and legal precedent. Sixteen years post-independence from the United States, the Philippines formally staked a claim to Sabah in 1962, a move initiated under President Diosdado Macapagal and escalated by the more assertive policies of President Ferdinand Marcos. The main objective of this article is to explore the degree to which socioeconomic cooperation has played a role in rejuvenating and bolstering the Philippines’ foreign relations with Malaysia amidst the Sabah dispute. This historical analysis utilises qualitative methodologies to scrutinise primary and secondary sources, encompassing official records and documents pertinent to the dispute over the Philippines’ claim to Sabah. Despite the long-standing and potentially destabilising territorial dispute over Sabah, the Philippines and Malaysia transitioned from confrontation to collaboration, leading to robust socio-economic ties and increased regional stability within ASEAN. The problem lies in understanding how this diplomatic shift occurred, the strategies employed by the administrations of Presidents Aquino and Ramos in redirecting the focus from territorial claims to mutual economic growth, and the implications of this shift for both the bilateral relationship and the broader ASEAN dynamics. The findings indicate that, in contrast to the approaches of Presidents Diosdado Macapagal and Ferdinand Marcos, Presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel V. Ramos skilfully shifted the focus from the Sabah issue to fostering robust socio-economic collaboration. This pivot served as a critical turning point, establishing the foundation for a comprehensive, multi-layered cooperation that is free from the constraints of the Sabah dispute.

    No full text
In this study, the level of financial literacy of university students from Kumasi Technical University was analysed. The aim of the research was to examine the financial literacy and saving behaviour of tertiary students using Kumasi Technical University as a case study. An online survey tool was used to collect the data. A sample size of 377 was drawn from the population by the convenience sampling method with data from primary sources. The quantitative data was analysed through descriptive statistics. Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS version 20) was employed to analyse the data. It was found out that the financial literacy among the respondents was average, especially among students studying business and management courses. This could be due to the fact that most of their courses of study are finance-related as compared to other students in other programmes. It was also found that the majority of respondents across different age groups felt that seeking financial information and advice had an impact on their decisions. However, a significant percentage (13.5 percent) of respondents aged 18 to 24 said that even if they had sought financial information and advice, their decisions had not been impacted. This study will provide guidance to policymakers and other regulators on how to develop appropriate strategies to increase savings among young people

Indonesian Stock Price Prediction Using Neural Basis Expansion Analysis for Interpretable Time Series Method

    No full text
The stock market is an attractive investment venue for many individuals and companies. However, unexpected share price fluctuations can cause significant financial losses. In stock investment, predicting stock price movements is the most frequently discussed topic because it allows investors to make the right investment decisions to make big profits. Therefore, a model is needed to predict future stock prices, one strategy for maximising investment profits. New state-of-the-art deep learning architectures for time series forecasting are being developed yearly, making them more accurate than ever. The most commonly used network for such a solution is Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) architecture, but it has limitations such as long training time and interpretability. This study aims to evaluate another state-of-theart solution, Neural Basis Expansion Analysis for Interpretable Time Series (N-BEATS), in comparison with LSTM by utilising historical data of PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (one of the banking companies in Indonesia) from 25 March 2013 to 21 March 2023. N-BEATS is a relatively new variable method that can produce accurate predictions using neural networks. This architecture has advantages such as interpretability, seamless applicability across diverse target domains without requiring modifications, and fast training. Based on tests carried out with prediction errors measured using the Mean Average Percentage Error (MAPE), it was found that the N-BEATS model outperformed the LSTM model with a MAPE value of 1.05 percent. In conclusion, this research shows the use of a new method of deep learning algorithms to predict stock prices, which contributes to facilitating stock buying and selling decisions by investors.

Acceptance of IoT-based E-coin Track-and-trace: A Case of the Digital Euro Project in Italy

    No full text
As the world becomes increasingly digitalised, there are growing concerns about the use of big data and machine learning techniquesto monitor and control citizens’ spending habits. This is particularly the case regarding Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC), whichare being trialled by an increasing number of countries. There is a perception that such currencies could violate privacy due to thecentralisation of money liability. The aim of this research is to assess whether a universal e-coin level tracking service of money and public expenditures, available to everyone and inspired by Internet of Things (IoT) architectures and standards, could instil trust ininstitutions while increasing the acceptance of CDBCs. The research methodology comprises three key elements: (i) the conceptualisation and implementation of an IoT-based CBDC, (ii) a qualitative, technical and compliance assessment with regard to the specific reference to the Digital Euro (D€) project, and (iii) a survey we conducted among 351 respondents to ascertain the potential for CBDC acceptance within Italy. The results demonstrate that the prototype is a viable concept despite storage limitations. Furthermore, 73.83 percent of respondents who initially expressed scepticism indicated that they would be more inclined to adopt the CDBC instrument if a universal track-and-trace tool of money were made available

Reinforcement Learning Algorithm for Optimising Durian Irrigation Systems: Maximising Growth and Water Efficiency

    No full text
This study presents a Reinforcement Learning-based algorithm designed to optimise irrigation for Durio Zibethinus (i.e., durian) trees, aiming to maximise tree growth and reduce water usage. Traditional irrigation methods, as well as current machine learning models, often focus only on soil moisture and weather data, neglecting critical factors like actual tree growth. This study proposed a reinforcement learning irrigation (RL-Irr) algorithm incorporating tree growth stages, soil moisture, and weather conditions to determine precise irrigation needs. The algorithm was developed by calibrating the AQUACROP model using data from actual durian plantations where rain-fed irrigation (rain-fed) was practised. Daily irrigation volumes were calculated based on real-time soil moisture, weather forecasts, and weekly tree growth measurements. The reinforcement learning method was used to optimise irrigation schedules, with rewards based on soil moisture, tree growth, rainfall, and weather conditions. The algorithm was tested using AQUACROP simulations and compared against soil moisture balance irrigation (SMB-Irr) and rain-fed. The results showed that the RL-Irr reduced water use by up to 75 percent while maintaining tree growth. These findings suggest the algorithm could significantly improve water efficiency in durian farming, though real-world applications should consider potential model limitations.

THE INCLUSION OF DISASTER RISK REDUCATION IN CLASSROOM AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: A CASE OF RURAL BALOCHISTAN, PAKISTAN

    No full text
Purpose – Balochistan, which makes up roughly 44 percent of Pakistan’s total land area, is home to 6 percent of the nation’s inhabitants. Due to long distances and low population density, service delivery is particularly challenging. The province’s educational services are impacted by natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, droughts, and migration. Disaster risk reduction is a widely recognized concept that emphasizes appropriate education to lower an individual’s personal, familial, and communal vulnerability. The role of the school is crucial in Disaster Risk Reducation (DRR) education. As a result, the study’s goal was to explore the approaches adopted for the inclusion of DDR through teaching in classroom and school activities. Methodology – A focus group discussion with three groups of Pakistan studies and Geography teachers was conducted that consistedof 10 male and 14 female members. Findings – Findings demonstrate that the current textbook continues to teach students less about disaster risk reduction; teachers include knowledge from their personal experience in planning lessons about DRR. School assemblies, child clubs and activities designed by school management, and social organizations play a prominent role in DRR education. Further, the role of teachers and school management was identified in psycho-social support during disasters and pandemics. Significance – The study concludes that in addition to extracurricular activities and the teacher’s role, prior disaster experience, school, and social organization played a significant role in DRR education in rural Balochistan. The study results will assist curriculumdevelopers, policymakers, and education leadership in developing more effective school disaster management plans. The results willalso clarify how schools and teachers can close the knowledge gap in disaster preparedness education. Organizations working on disaster risk education and education in emergencies will also benefit from additional research to respond to the need readily and effectively
