STATISTICAL INFERENCE ON SINE-EXPONENTIAL DISTRIBUTION PARAMETER
The Sine-Exponential (Sine-E) distribution is a probability distribution that combines the periodic behavior of the sine function with the decay characteristic of the exponential function. This study addresses the problem of identifying the most accurate and reliable estimation method for the parameter of the Sine-E distribution. The objective is to evaluate various parameter estimation techniques, including Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE), Least Squares Estimation (LSE), Weighted Least Squares Estimation (WLSE), Maximum Product of Spacing Estimation (MPSE), Cramer-von-Mises Estimation (CVME), and Anderson-Darling Estimation (ADE), using Mean Square Error (MSE) as the criterion for determining the technique with the minimum error. The study’s findings reveal that as sample size increases, the parameter estimates for all techniques converge to the true parameter value, with decreases in bias, MSE, and mean relative estimates. Among the techniques evaluated, the MPSE method consistently provides estimates closest to the true parameter value and exhibits the least bias and lowest MSE across small, moderate, and large sample sizes, making it the best estimator for the Sine-E distribution
THE ROLE OF EXTENDED VALUE CHAIN ACTIVITIES IN ENHANCING ECONOMIC VALUE ADDED PLANTATION COMPANIES IN MALAYSIA
The palm oil industry in Malaysia has faced issues of lower palm oil price and limited land area, and these issues have created a challenging environment for plantation companies to operate in. Plantation companies are constrained in maximizing their profits. Thus, this paper aims to examine the Economic Value Added (EVA) and the factors that influence the EVA of different value chain activities. The dynamic generalized method of moments (DGMM) estimators were adopted for the analysis and the focus was on the -40 Malaysian plantation companies that were listed in the Bursa Malaysia from 2010 to 2018. The results revealed that both downstream integrated activities, namely oleo-chemicals/biodiesel and refineries activities had a significant influence on the plantation companies’ EVA, with the coefficient value 1.12 and 0.09 respectively. Other factors such as the gross margin, crude palm oil price, and exchange rate also significantly influenced the plantation companies’ EVA. The empirical results which were based on the plantation companies’ EVA were influenced by different value chain activities as expected. The findings show that the downstream integrated activities like refineries, and oleo-chemicals/biodiesel activities have played a significant role in increasing the EVA of plantation companies
VALUING INDIGENOUS RIGHTS OVER FOREST GOVERNANCE IN SIX ASEAN MEMBER COUNTRIES
Indigenous forests and indigenous communities have always shared a deep emotional, spiritual, and practical bond. This paper aims to methodically examine the relationship between the level of rights held by indigenous people concerning indigenous forest governance and the ability of the indigenous community in ensuring the long-term viability of its ecosystems. Concurrently, in examining and discussing these issues it is hoped that it can also contribute to the survival of the indigenous people in the future. The elucidation of indigenous people’s rights in the context of indigenous forest governance is based on the empirical scrutiny of the study hypotheses, utilizing the Sikor et al. type of rights. A quantitative analysis through Somer analysis was also carried out on the comprehensive secondary data sets obtained from six selected ASEAN member countries. The findings show that the six selected ASEAN member countries have not yet been granted the third level of rights for indigenous peoples with regard to indigenous forest governance. The statistical evidence strongly suggests the urgent need in these countries to grant indigenous people rights over indigenous forest governance, both within a legal framework and in practical implementation, particularly at the definitional and allocative level of rights. The absence of such rights at the highest levels raises significant concerns about the sustainability of indigenous forests and the welfare of indigenous people across the observed ASEAN member countries.
RECONCILING CONSTITUTIONAL RULES AND INTERNATIONAL LAWS: A DOCTRINAL STUDY ON THE INNOVATIVE ROLE OF CONSTITUTIONAL RECONCILIATION IN IRAQ AND EGYPT
This research employs a doctrinal study methodology to investigate the conflict between constitutional rules and international rules, emphasizing the emerging jurisdiction of constitutional reconciliation. Through case studies in Iraq and Egypt, the study seeks to identify crucial criteria for addressing conflicts within the legal framework. A systematic analysis of legal principles, precedents, and existing literature provides a comprehensive understanding of the intricate dynamics involved in resolving conflicts between constitutional provisions and international rules. The research delves into nuanced conflicts arising in the absence of specified applicable laws in constitutional provisions, particularly where international treaties intersect with or deviate from domestic legislation. It aims to elucidate the mechanisms employed by domestic judges, utilizing constitutional reconciliation, when confronted with conflicts between provisions in domestic law and those in treaties. The central inquiry focuses on determining the prevailing legal framework—domestic law or international treaty—with constitutional reconciliation emerging as a novel jurisdiction to rectify such conflicts. In addressing the conflict between constitutional rules and international rules, the study aims to develop an effective resolution mechanism, underscoring the importance of constitutional reconciliation to harmonize international law with domestic legal frameworks. Grounded in a comprehensive understanding of international law regarding the authority of constitutional judges, the analytical method is complemented by the doctrinal study. By integrating the jurisdiction of constitutional reconciliation into the methodology and employing Iraq and Egypt as case studies, this research contributes to a nuanced comprehension of how constitutional judges can navigate and harmonize the interplay between domestic and international legal frameworks. This approach ensures the preservation of both sets of rules without compromising either, advancing our understanding of the complexities involved in addressing conflicts between constitutional and international rules through the innovative lens of constitutional reconciliation.
HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF SHRM: BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF SHRM BASED ON WEB OF SCIENCE
In the study, 2,220 articles related to the concept of Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM) published in the period of 1980-2020 and included in the SCI, SSCI and ESCI citation indexes were examined bibliometrically on the Web of Science database usingthe VOSviewer software. The purpose of the study is to essentially evaluate the studies conducted with the concept of SHRM and provide foresight for future studies. In this context, in order to evaluate the publications in the study, the changes in the number of publications in the publication volume in the field were discussed, the developments in the field, the trends in the subject headings, the countries and institutions that make the strongest contribution to the literature, the field and the most cited ones in the field were examined. The results indicated that the number of studies on the concept of strategic human resources increased in the 2000s. The acceleration in the number of studies is noteworthy, especially in 2015 and after. It is seen that frequently used keywords in the field of strategic human resources are strategy, strategic management, human resource, and performance. Other keywords with high connection strength are listed as human capital, knowledge management, strategic management, dynamic capabilities, high-performance work system and HR development. It is recommended that future researchers should carry out empirical and conceptual studies on the reasons for the differences in the number of studies published by countries in the field of SHRM and their level of interest in the field.
THE ABILITY OF A BRAND RECALL TO MEDIATE BETWEEN PRODUCT PLACEMENT AND MULTI-ETHNIC MOVIEGOER’S CONSUMER PURCHASE INTENTIONS
Product placement has been a crucial influence for multi-ethnic Malaysian moviegoers in terms of purchase intentions. This researchwas conceptualised based on the Tripartite Typology of Product Placement by Russel (1998) and the Planned Behaviour Theory(TPB) by Ajzen (1985). This investigation measured how brand recall mediated the relationship between plot integration, audiostimulus, visual stimulus and consumer purchasing intentions. The research focused primarily on multi-ethnic cinemagoers in Peninsula Malaysia. Past research has also proven that the ethnic background of an individual does have a positive impact on the purchase intentions of the individual. This research studied the purchase intentions of each ethnicity in Peninsular Malaysia to determine if there is a difference among the purchase intentions of respondents when it comes to brand recall mediating the relationship between product placement and the various modalities of product placement. Respondents were sampled from all states within Peninsula Malaysia except for the states of Kelantan and Perlis due to the unavailability of operating cinemas in these states. Respondents were invited to participate after they had watched a movie in the cinema. Preferences only for those who watched Hollywood movies. A total of 513 respondents participated in this research. A questionnaire based on the five-point Likert scale was created as the research instrument to collect data by adapting from past research. A reliability test was done to ascertain the reliabilityand validity of the instrument. Data obtained was analysed using the Smart Partial Least Squares (PLS) Software to determine the relationship between the hypotheses tested. The results generated have proven that brand recall is able to influence the relationship between plot integration, audio stimulation, visual stimulation and consumer purchase intentions of all the ethnicities in Peninsula Malaysia
THE MEDIATING ROLE OF SERVANT LEADERSHIP IN PREDICTING GREEN MANAGEMENT PRACTICES: A PRELIMINARY STUDY
Green manufacturing practices (GMP) are promoted by the United Nations through an effort known as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which has been welcomed by Malaysia to address global environmental problems, with manufacturing sectors becoming the primary focus, in line with the National Policy goals to enhance the capacity of the manufacturing sector by 2025. However, Malaysia’s green commitment is less encouraging globally, as most manufacturers are still struggling to implement GMP due to weak leadership, resulting in low acceptance within the organization. Servant leadership is proposed as a mediator to help manufacturers implement GMP effectively, where this leadership is less concerned with the context of green practices in Malaysia. In this paper, the influential factors of GMP implementation will also be identified. A total of 40 factory managers responded to the survey used in a pilot study. The initial results show that the most influential factor is law enforcement, based on mean score, followed by proactive communication and technology advancement. Meanwhile, servant leadership did not mediate the relationships between the business environment and organizational factors, except for individual factors and GMP, as employees are empowered to be creative in their own ways. This study offers new perspectives to manufacturers who intend to maintain their commitment towards GMP
MARKET REACTION TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF BASEL CAPITAL IN SOUTH AFRICAN BANKS: EVENT STUDY APPROACH
This study investigated the stock market reaction and the effect of the implementation of Basel II and Basel III on the stock returns of South African banks. In achieving this aim, this study focused on daily and annual data of six commercial banks from 3rd January 2004 to 31st December 2022. The event study methodology was employed to identify abnormal returns around the specified event dates. The effect of the changes in Basel capital requirements on stock returns was not uniform across the four events. The market reacted favourably to the implementation of the Basel II requirements in the country. There was a significantly negative market reaction to the subsequent full implementation of Basel III official. Finally, higher Basel capital requirements (CAR) was associated with lower bank stock returns. The findings implied that bank regulators increase capital to strengthen the banking system but constrain the maximisation of shareholders’ values
BUILDING CONSUMER ENGAGEMENT IN SOCIAL MEDIA: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW
This study aims to investigate the dimensions of customer engagement (CE) in social media and what theories and methods are employed to scrutinize CE on social media. This study systematically used the literature review of 77 articles. Through Scopus-indexed academic databases, this study found and assessed peer-reviewed journal papers focused on social media and consumer engagement from 2018 to 2022. In this study, the current issues and research gaps for designing and developing future research are presented as well. This research analyzed the dimensions, theories, variables, methods, social media types, and previous business and spatial contexts. Most researchers illustrated CE as giving likes, comments, and shares on social media. Sixteen theories of the prior research were employed to investigate consumer engagement. This study positively impacts social media and consumer engagement by suggesting new insight for analyzing the related literature. They include modifying the CE in social media, reflecting the interaction between brand and customer phenomena, using other theories that exclude sixteen approaches that have been identified, and applying different methods such as experimental or mixed methods. Therefore, a comprehensive explanation of the consumer engagement framework on social media can be explained holistically by further studies
THE ERA OF TRANSPARENCY: AUDITOR’S JUDGEMENT OF KEY AUDIT MATTER AND AUDIT QUALITY
This paper discusses the theoretical influence of key audit matter and audit quality. This paper discusses a literature study method approach to explore the possible impact of key audit matters (KAMs) and audit quality. In particular, the authors believe implementing key audit matters can largely affect audit risk, going concern evaluation and audit response procedures, which in the end can influence on audit quality. Implementation of key audit matters in Indonesia began in 2022, audit firms are strongly advised to prepare better audit working papers and mitigate audit risks. This can help them consider matters that require the auditor\u27s significant attention, which in turn is hoped can increase the flexibility and effectiveness of communication between auditees and auditors. In addition, the author recommends that regulators or audit oversight boards require the application of boards to apply key audit matters to all audit work, not just mandatory for listed companies. It is hoped that this rule will help audit companies work more carefully in dealing with audit risks, which appear to be positively related to audit quality. As far as the author knows, limited educational study has explored the possible influence of key audit matters (KAMs) on audit quality in Indonesia. Therefore, this paper reduces the research gap in the audit literature. On the other hand, this paper can be used as a foundation for developing research instruments (e.g., questionnaires, interviews, or content analysis) to grant empirical evidence
