AN EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROVISION OF LAND USE POLICY FOR BUILDING HOUSES IN RURAL BANGLADESH
The paper provides a comprehensive evaluation of the national land use policy in Bangladesh, highlighting the gaps in implementation and the need for strategic improvements for building houses using minimum agricultural land in rural areas of Bangladesh. The main objectives of the policy evaluation research are to explore the extent of the intervention of the National Land Use Policy 2001 that has achieved the objective of minimum use of agricultural land, to determine whether the authority has made the rural people aware of building model houses, multistorey buildings, and planned residential areas in the village and finally to find out the critical factors for effective implementation of national land use policy. It has been used as a mixed evaluation research method with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were collected online using a semistructured questionnaire and checklist for respondent interviews. The main results of the policy evaluation revealed that the objectives of the policy are not achieved and effectively implemented for numerous reasons as such, the implementers are reluctant to implement and make aware the villagers, responsible implementing agencies are not fully well-defined, people are unaware and do not know about the policy, lack of village development planning and design, overpopulation and segregation of families, poverty, lack of monitoring by the ministry, unorganized urbanization and industrialization, local political influence, absence of land zoning and union parishad are unwilling to enforce their laws, etc. To implement the policy effectively, a joint effort of the local government bodies, local communities, and all local administration departments would be required, and each organization’s role would be well classified, and payment or loan support would be transferred to the rural people of Bangladesh.
MODEL KESIHATAN MENTAL REMAJA LUAR BANDAR DI MALAYSIA: (A Mental Health Model for Rural Adolescents in Malaysia)
Berdasarkan analisis kajian, terdapat tujuh faktor yang terbentuk mewakili dimensi kesihatan mental remaja luar bandar iaitu (i) emosi, (ii) penyelesaian masalah (problem -solving), (iii) kesejahteraan intelektual (intellectual wellness), (iv) kerohanian (spirituality), (v) penglibatan sosial (social engagement), (vi) resiliensi dan (vii) tingkah laku (behavioral).
ABSTRACTIn Malaysia, youth is a group often associated with mental health issues due to lack of response and exposure to stress. Therefore, the study aims to build a model specific to adolescent mental health, and it focuses on rural youth. If we look at it, the issue of rural youth is a national change agenda as they are often associated with involvement with negative symptoms that are often of concern to the Malaysian government. The study involved 385 youths from the northern zone of Peninsular Malaysia who volunteered and they were selected using random sampling techniques. In this study, four measuring devices relevant to adolescent mental health issues were used, namely the Psychological Wellbeing Scale by Ryff and Keyes (1995), the COPE Scale by Carver (1997), the Bar-On Emotional Inventory by Bar-On (1997) and Mindfulness Awareness Scale by Brown & Bryan (2003). Through items from the surveying, the researchers formed a model dimension using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). After that, the verification and matching of the data obtained is measured using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to form a measurement model. Based on the results of the study there are seven factors that are formed to represent the mental health dimensions of rural adolescents i.e. (i) emotional, (ii) problem solving, (iii) intellectual wellness, (iv) spirituality, (v) social engagement, (vi) resilience and (vii) behavioral. The seven dimensions of this built-in model represent a youth mechanism acting in the face of the challenges of mental health issues. This element is also believed to be a catalyst to reduce the involvement of rural youths to the risk of mental disorders in the course of life functions.
FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
This study is conducted to validate the effectiveness of financial development in reducing poverty. The study adopted a Systematic Quantitative Assessment Technique and reviewed 91 financial development and poverty alleviation articles published between 2010–2022 to provide insight into the efficacy of financial development in reducing poverty and producing a blueprint for the government for possible adoption. The study also intends to know whether financial development successfully reduced poverty, highlight the evidence showing the success of financial development in reducing poverty, how financial development strategies were implemented to reduce poverty in other countries, and why financial development has been ineffective in reducing poverty. The reviewed articles revealed that financial development benefits the poor by increasing their access to various funding sources, thus improving well-being and reducing poverty. Similarly, it was revealed that lack of institutional quality and low financial penetration are the major reasons why financial development may not successfully reduce poverty. Thus, this study presented a FACI Blueprint to help the government effectively reduce poverty in countries where financial development is weak and unable to reduce poverty
Parents’ Influence on the Augmented Reality (AR) in Science Subject: Pre-School Education Level
Various technologies and e-learning tools have been adopted in the teaching and learning process. This transformation has not only affected the teachers and students, but also parents, school management and other stakeholders. This research aims to investigate Malaysian parents’ awareness, attitudes, and social influence and willingness in shaping their own perception toward the adoption of augmented reality (AR), embedded in the science subjects, at the level of pre-school education. In this research, a total of 210 parents who have kid(s) studying in the kindergartens have responded to the questionnaire. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) is employed in this study to analyze the proposed external factors of the adoption of AR technology in the science subjects at the pre-school education. The results show that parents’ attitudes and their awareness of AR technology positively affect their perception of adopting AR technology
Indonesian teaching materials for multicultural character education in Singapore Indonesian school: (Bahan pengajaran bahasa Indonesia dalam pendidikan sahsiah multibudaya bagi sekolah Indonesia di Singapura)
Character education must be instilled, one of which is through learning with teaching materials containing multicultural-based character education. In the Indonesian School of Singapore (SIS), Indonesian students use a textbook by the publisher Erlangga as their teaching resource. The book is not designed for Indonesian students studying Indonesian at Indonesian Schools Abroad (ISA), although character education is urgently needed. Therefore, this study should be carried out to analyze the elements of character education in the book. This study aimed to analyze character education in multicultural-based Indonesian language teaching materials at SIS. The study design is of content analysis. Research data was obtained through questionnaires, and textbook documents of the Erlangga Publisher were analyzed according to the theory of Greene and Petty (2007). The results of the needs analysis show that the SIS teachers strongly agree with fourteen (14) aspects of character education in Bahasa Indonesia (BI) teaching materials, 10 aspects of good BI textbooks, and 4 multicultural aspects of BI teaching materials, and agree with one aspect of character education in BI teaching materials. This study concludes that the need to develop a character education model in multicultural-based Indonesian language teaching materials is also required by SIS to achieve the vision and mission of SIS
FORMULATING THE EVALUATION MODEL OF EDUCATIONAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR CHILDREN’S LEARNING (EMV4CL)
This study, part of a Ph.D. thesis, explores the role of Educational Music Videos (EMVs) in enhancing children\u27s learning within the framework of Video-Based Learning (VBL). EMVs, which adapt the traditional music video format by embedding educational content through singing narration, offer a novel approach to creating engaging and enjoyable learning experiences for young learners. However, the educational potential of EMVs has not been fully realized due to the absence of specific guidelines for evaluating their appropriateness for children\u27s learning. To address this gap, the study develops the Evaluation Model of Educational Music Videos for Children’s Learning (EMV4CL). The model is grounded in Design Research methodology and identifies five critical components necessary for the effective evaluation of EMVs: video content, audio-visual learning concepts, video presentation style, edutainment features, and interactive activities. Each component was meticulously designed to capture the unique characteristics that make EMVs suitable for educational purposes. The EMV4CL model was subsequently validated by 11 academic experts, who unanimously endorsed its relevance and applicability in assessing the educational quality of music videos for children. The findings of this study highlight the EMV4CL as a significant contribution to the field, providing a structured and comprehensive tool that educators and developers can use to produce and evaluate high-quality educational music videos. This research advances the understanding of how music videos can be effectively utilized to support and enhance children\u27s learning
SUSTAINING THE MALAYSIAN MONARCHY’S HERITAGE: HOW SHOULD IT BE POSITIONED TO INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS?
Tourism industry relies heavily on good marketing strategy, which becomes imperative for destination marketers to focus on when building long-term consumer engagement, loyalty, and relationships by adopting a sustainable marketing strategy and ultimately safeguard heritage sustainability. This study selects the Malaysian monarchy’s heritage as the research subject and positions strategy as a method to segment and profile international tourists to the said heritage. Respondents were surveyed in July and August 2022, at a museum in Malaysia. Using the Ward method, the clustering analysis identified three clusters, i.e., ‘the royal enthusiast’, ‘the apathetic tourists’, and ‘the inclined royalist’. The main benefits sought by respondents were ‘accessibility’, ‘quality of facilities’, and ‘an increase of knowledge’. Respondents viewed that there should be a focus on ‘representation of the monarchy’s heritage to the Malaysian people and identity’, highlighting that it is ‘a country with nine royal states’, and is therefore unique. Since positioning is about the intention to highlight strengths and distinctiveness in the marketplace, the Malaysian monarchy’s heritage should therefore be positioned in the minds of international tourists as ‘a rich heritage destination with nine royal states’, which is uniquely Malaysia. The clustering of tourists may enhance the consumption intention and achieve continuous sustainable strategic orientation in preserving the Malaysian monarchy’s heritage
ANALYSING LIBRARY USAGE PATTERNS: A VISUAL EXPLORATION OF BOOK LOAN AND ROOM RESERVATION TRENDS
Library usage refers to how users interact with library resources and spaces, including borrowing books, reserving study rooms, navigating library spaces, and using digital resources. Analysing library usage patterns helps libraries optimise resources, improve services, and better meet the needs of their users. This study aims to visually explore the patterns in book loan activities and room reservation behaviours using the R programming language to identify trends that provide preliminary data for decision-making when establishing library operational policies. Annual book loan and room reservation data from 2017 to 2023 from Perpustakaan Sultanah Bahiyah, Library of Universiti Utara Malaysia, were collected and converted into a compatible R-analysis format. The analysis includes exploratory data analysis and visualisation using base R functions, base R graphics, and ggplot2 functionality. The findings, such as annual book loan rates, trends in book loan rates between undergraduate and postgraduate students, frequency of room reservation discussions across years, and the relationship between book loans and room reservations over time, serve as foundational data to support decision-making for the efficient operation of libraries and to inform strategies for optimising library services and resources to meet user needs better
