Factors contributing to stress among public university students in Malaysia: An empirical study

    No full text
This study assesses stress levels among students in Malaysian public universities and identifies key contributing factors. Motivated by increasing cases of stress-related issues, including severe mental health outcomes, an online questionnaire was distributed through WhatsApp and QR codes strategically placed at bus stops and dormitory cafeterias, gathering responses from 208 students. Results indicate that academic workload and financial difficulties significantly contribute to student stress, while factors such as the learning environment and personal issues, although impactful, have comparatively lower influence. The findings highlight the necessity for targeted institutional interventions aimed specifically at alleviating academic pressures and enhancing financial assistance programs. These insights are vital for university administrators, policymakers, and mental health practitioners aiming to foster a supportive academic environment, ultimately improving student well-being and academic performance

    No full text

IDEOLOGI NASIONALISME, ISLAMISME DAN SOSIALISME MEMPENGARUHI PERJUANGAN KEMERDEKAAN DI NUSANTARA : (The Ideologies of Nationalism, Islamism And Socialism Influence Towards Independence Struggle in the Archipelago)

    No full text
ABSTRACT The political landscape of the archipelago embraced three dominant ideologies such as Nationalism, Islamism, and Socialism as foundational elements in the collective struggle for independence. These ideologies significantly influenced the historical development of the region, with Indonesia frequently serving as a source of inspiration for Malaya’s own independence movement. The 1928 Sumpah Pemuda declaration in Indonesia, which emphasized unity through the Indonesian nation, state, and language, played a pivotal role in igniting political consciousness and independence aspirations across the archipelago. Sukarno, a prominent Indonesian leader, skillfully blended aspects of nationalism, Islamic values, and socialist-communist thought as the backbone of his political mission. To foster unity among diverse societal groups, he introduced the concept of NASASOS (National, Religious, and Socialist) during his leadership. Prior to this, his administration was characterized by the ideological fusion known as NASAKOM (Nationalist, Religious, and Communist). Sukarno’s inclusive ideological strategy greatly influenced political activism in Malaya. This influence is evident in the formation of the Malay Nationalist Party (PKMM) in 1945, which brought together leaders of varied ideological backgrounds nationalists like Ghafar Baba and Sardon Jubir, Islamic leaders such as Dr. Burhanuddin al-Helmy and Taharuddin Taha, and left-wing figures including Ahmad Boestaman and Mukhtaruddin Lasso. Nonetheless, the British initiative to implement the Malayan Union on April 1, 1946, led to ideological rifts, ultimately causing divisions among Malayan leaders with differing political beliefs.

The rise in health awareness has driven the need for digital solutions to support personalised dietary management and weight loss. Existing digital health solutions lack personalised dietary and weight management strategies, which limits their effectiveness. This study develops and evaluates a Personalised Information System for Healthy Eating and Weight Loss, incorporating structured health assessments, AI-driven meal planning, and exercise recommendations tailored to user-specific data such as BMI, dietary preferences, and activity levels. Using the Waterfall model, the system was designed and tested through an online survey involving 30 respondents, which assessed five key factors: ease of Use, Usefulness, User Interface Design, User Satisfaction, and System Performance. Results indicate that 78.7% of users found the system highly useful, 86.7% praised its intuitive interface, and 90% expressed overall satisfaction. Correlation analysis reveals a strong positive relationship (r = 0.72) between ease of use and perceived usefulness, underscoring the potential of this relationship to foster long-term engagement. While digital health tools often lack adaptive recommendations, this study addresses this gap by integrating real-time feedback and AI-driven customisation. Future enhancements include integrating wearable devices and expanded meal plan options to optimise the user experience

NON-STATE ACTORS AND ELECTION MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN NIGERIA: ISSUES AND WAY FORWARD

    No full text
Elections are a fundamental principle in any democratic setting. Notwithstanding, the electoral management process in Nigeria has been blighted with several anomalies and conspiracies. To strengthen the election management process, the roles of the non-state players seem essential in realizing these purposes. The primary objective of this study is to identify the institutional and legal framework available for non-state actor involvement in the election administration process in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic using the case study approach to probe into the operations of the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth, and Advancement (YIAGA-Africa). This study adopted the primary and secondary research methods while the research design was qualitative. Primary data were obtained directly through the interviews, while journals, articles, textbooks, periodicals, and the internet formed the secondary basis. The total population for this study was one hundred and forty-seven (147) purposively sampled respondents. The qualitative data results were presented in thematic forms. The study revealed that, indeed, there exists a legal and institutional framework for non-state actors’ involvement in the election management process in Nigeria; however, this remains deficient as a palpable imbalance pervades the legal framework. The study recommends that the National Assembly work out modalities, make new laws, and address misconceptions in the institutional and legal framework for non-state actors to give them a smoother operational environment in the election management process

    No full text
Digital financial inclusion is a fundamental component in alleviating poverty and enhancing prosperity. A comprehensive financial system lays the foundation for a basis of robust and resilient households, enhancing the welfare of low-income groups. This research examines the determinants of digital financial inclusion among low-income families in Malaysia, specifically focusing on digital literacy, financial literacy, trust, infrastructure and financial service providers. Total of one thousand one hundred seventy-one respondents with income below the national poverty line were surveyed. The Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) and the Multigroup Analysis (MGA) techniques were employed. This study separated the total sample into two groups, Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. The results demonstrate that trust, digital literacy and infrastructure are positively and significantly related to digital financial inclusion for all the groups. The role of financial service providers is only supported for the complete sample set and Peninsular Malaysia. Surprisingly, this study found no association between financial literacy and digital financial inclusion. In addition, the MGA results further evidence significant differences between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia in achieving digital financial inclusion. Peninsular Malaysia shows stronger digital literacy and infrastructure, while East Malaysia demonstrates more potents effects of financial service providers and trust in boosting digital financial inclusion. These findings provide practitioners valuable insights into fostering a digitally inclusive financial society. This research includes strengthening consumer protection regulations on digital financial services to address cyber threats, implementing digital literacy campaigns to enhance awareness, and ensuring affordable and reliable internet access. These policy recommendations highlight the importance of formulating and designing tailored strategies to enhance digital financial inclusion among low-income households in Malaysia
