    Get PDF
The general public perceives film as the factor that encourages negativity in the behaviour of its audience. However, through the perspective of film studies, the film can serve as the means to convey a good message. However, more in-depth reviews need to be done to attest to its capability in doing so. Therefore, using Laswell Communication Model (1948), this study was carried out to examine the good messages from religious Malay films. This study used qualitative content analysis design. by using purposive sampling, the researcher chose four Malay films as the subjects in this film study. The movies were Maut (Death) (2009), Syurga Cinta (Love Heaven) (2009) and Nur Kasih (The Light of Love) The Movie (2011). The films were watched and analysed by inserting all the facts into content analysis forms - the film meaning evaluation form and theme coding form. Narrative and theme analysis were used to analyse the film text data. Overall, the study found that the Malay religious films examined to discuss the concept of good message. There were four themes from the religious Malays films analysis which were promoting the good messages; the plays of emotions, based on the target group, negative reinforcement style and the good advice. However, not all the film samples highlight the idea of good messages in their purest sense as they are inharmonious with the principle of Amar Ma’ruf Nahi Munkar (encouraging good deeds, forbidding bad acts)

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an unprecedented increase in the number of critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation. Tracheostomy played an important role to wean off the patients from ventilator support and maximize the resources. Tracheostomy is an aerosol generating procedure (AGP) which raised some controversial issues as it carries a risk of infection to healthcare workers.  This study aims to review the issues related to tracheostomy procedure in COVID-19 patients, including the appropriate time to perform tracheostomy, criteria for patient selection, safer approach and risk of infection among healthcare workers. Related information retrieved via online search of original articles, paper reviews, recommendations and guidelines from PubMed, Medline and Google Scholar using keywords tracheostomy, COVID-19, intensive care and mechanical ventilation are summarized in this article. The suggested time frame to perform tracheostomy ranged from 7 to 21 days. Early tracheostomy performed between day 10 to 14 had beneficial outcome for the patients and helped to reduce ICU occupancy. Decision for appropriate timing was made after considering the viral load and the course of the disease. Criteria for patient selection based on suggestions from studies and guidelines were lower oxygen requirement (FiO2<0.4, PEEP< 10), low Sepsis Related Organ Failure (SOFA) scores, ventilation for at least 10 days and signs of improvement. Patient factors, availability of facilities and expertise were important criteria for decision to undertake tracheostomy. The patient outcomes from tracheostomy varied between centers. Most of the studies reported that none of the healthcare workers had been infected by utilizing appropriate PPE and by taking important precautions during the procedure. In conclusion, guidelines were established for tracheostomy procedure during COVID-19 but the decision to undertake the procedure still depend on a case by case basis.&nbsp

In early 2020, news in Indonesia announced through many media channels that a new virus, COVID-19, had been found and spread in Wuhan province, China. Later on, a patient was found in Indonesia, in Depok near Jakarta and rapidly spread throughout Jakarta. Preliminary action was taken by the governor of Jakarta, by implementing the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Jakarta starting in mid-March 2020 for students extended to the suspension of economic activities of almost all sectors in Indonesia. Subsequently, only fifteen sectors of business are allowed to operate which some of them is the banking and construction sectors. The Indonesian government continues to carry out recovery, including giving the first vaccine to the president in January 2021. The question is, how has this COVID-19 pandemic situation affected the financing of Islamic banks towards the construction sector ? This study use online data from available reports such as Indonesian Bank statistics and construction industrial reports to help the researchers in discussing for responding the research questions. The finding revealed that Islamic banks’ financing to construction sector is better at this pandemic period.

This study reveals the significance of the environmental security and its preservation from remnants of the pandemic Covid-19. It also intends to elucidate the role and contribution of Maqasid al-Shariah that highlight great concern on the preservation of individual\u27s life, society, and country in facing unexpected circumstances due to this pandemic through its legal texts (nusus). The study also aims to raise the community\u27s awareness on the importance of environmental security and end the pollution caused by Covid-19 remnants such as masks, gloves, and other Covid-19 residues used by the people to reduce the spread of this pandemic and the probabilities of its reach. However, some individuals do not properly place these residues in the designated places for proper and safe disposal. As a result, this waste is dumped in public areas and on roadsides leading to a high-risk environmental, ecological threat in the short and long term. Therefore, to overcome this situation, Shariah has underlined principles that must be adhered to in dealing with the Covid 19 remnant to safeguard the people, society, and state. Failure to observe these rules would lead to another catastrophic situation. The researchers applied the descriptive-analytical approach in writing this article. Some of the significant findings discover that Pandemic Covid-19 has caused a severe impact on the environment due to people\u27s improper disposal of the remnants that consequently affect the future life in terms of water and food resources and the environment safety. This study also found that Maqasid al-Shariah has emphasized the importance of promoting,  protecting and educating the people to have a decent relationship with the environment. The study also found that the environmental pollution caused by the remnants of covid 19 has somehow resulted from the corruption or illegal action by some that finally threaten the lives of individuals, society, and the world

    Get PDF
Controlling the current COVID-19 pandemic requires infection control at both the individual and global levels.  There is insufficient information on the consistency between Islamic principles and medical guidelines regarding infection control measures. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the consistency between Islamic principles and evidence-based medical recommendations during the pandemic time. A comparison was made between the latest medical infection control recommendations and Islamic references (the Quran and its interpretation, and Sunnah and its explanation). Relevant materials such as books and research articles in Arabic or English were reviewed. The information was then classified into different levels of infection control strategies, which were individual, household, community and healthcare unit levels. This study demonstrated that both Islamic principles and medical guidelines are consistent in terms of infection control, which involves crisis supervision by the infection control authority and specialised agencies, hand and general hygiene, personal protection, seeking specialist consultation and treatment, comprehensive care, guidelines in the event of limited resources, home isolation, travel bans and quarantine. Moreover, it was observed that Islamic principles combine and optimise both the individual frame and societal cohesion

    Get PDF
Preventing the spread of COVID-19 is crucial in flattening the COVID-19 infection curve. General population control measures should emphasise on understanding the knowledge about the disease and importance of following regulations related to restriction on movement. The aim of this pilot study was to develop a valid, reliable and practical instrument on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice towards Measures for Preventing the Spread of COVID-19 in Malaysia. The instrument was developed based on a Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) conceptual framework. The instrument in the form of a questionnaire was distributed online to a sample of 40 adults. The initial questionnaires contained 16, 17 and 14 questions on knowledge, attitude and practices domains, respectively. The content validity was assessed by the experts. The reliability of the instrument was measured using internal consistency reliability, which was measured using alpha coefficient reliability of Cronbach Alpha. The analysis showed that the total Cronbach Alpha value for knowledge, attitude and practice were 0.93, 0.89 and 0.87 respectively. After one item dropped from the attitude domain, the findings of this pilot study show that the instrument is valid and reliable to be used in a further larger study. This study demonstrated that the three scales of knowledge, attitude and practice were reliable and valid for assessing the prevention of spread of COVID-19 in Malaysia, although further analysis are needed to improve especially on the knowledge scale due to the low level of difficulty

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a devastating impact on the world. Medical students who belong to psychologically vulnerable groups also share more burdens due to the medical education academic demands, curriculum transition to virtually-delivered format, and the risk of being infected by the disease during clinical settings. This study aims to identify the anxiety level of undergraduate and clerkship medical students to create proper and effective strategies to build good mental status among medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a cross-sectional study. The survey was conducted using an online questionnaire to assess respondents’ identity, demographic data, family history, perceptions about online/offline learning, and the researchers used the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (TMAS) test to measure the anxiety level of the subjects. The subjects of this study were 164 medical students, divided into two groups, 94 final year undergraduate students and 70 final year clerkship students who were still doing their clinical rotations at the hospital. The findings of this study informed that the average anxiety level was 18.3 for undergraduate students and 19.6 for clerkship students. The TMAS score was higher among clerkship students than undergraduate students. However, the statistical analysis showed no difference (p=0.306) in TMAS scores between clerkship and undergraduate students. A close approach and continuous observation are needed because the higher the TMAS score indicates the higher the anxiety level
