Intubation Ergonomics and Effectiveness using Aerosol Box

The pandemic COVID-19 has caused a rupture and disturbance in many ecosystems, especially in healthcare.  Although previously patients were treated and given first-hand treatment especially during life threatening event, currently, the safety of healthcare workers have also become the utmost priority.  Due to the nature of COVID-19 virus that is able to spread easily via respiratory droplets and aerosols, using mouth and eyes as the route of entry, healthcare workers need to protect themselves while saving the patients at the same time. Therefore, the most common lifesaving procedure at accident and emergency department was chosen, i.e. the intubation procedure. The aerosol box is introduced and used widely during the intubation procedure, especially in accident and emergency department.  The study has three objectives. First, to determine whether the aerosol box can provide protection to its users, secondly to suggest an improvement based on the current design of the aerosol box and thirdly to determine the risk of musculoskeletal injuries among healthcare workers using Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA). In this study, direct observation was made during the assessment before suggesting the required recommendation on how to improve the existing aerosol box. The first objective was achieved by conducting a direct observation when participants were conducting the intubation procedure. Any possibility of participants getting exposed to the risk of COVID-19 due to the failure of the box in guarding, was noted by the observer. Recommendation for improvement was made based on these findings, and served the second objective of the study. To achieve the third objective, ergonomics assessment using Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) was conducted. REBA scores represent the severity of musculoskeletal risk imposed to healthcare workers during intubation procedure. Two participants took part in the study voluntarily. Results showed that the aerosol box used in this study does not protect healthcare workers from COVID-19. The current design of aerosol box used must be improvised in order to increase its effectiveness.  As for body postures, REBA scores were between medium and high, thus it required immediate corrective actions. With modification, the aerosol box may better protect healthcare workers from being exposed to the COVID-19 virus

The COVID-19 pandemic has a serious impact on people’s lives, including teachers. The need to continue the learning process during a pandemic has caused teachers and students to encounter many problems, including limited internet access in remote areas. Landang Elementary School (SDN 19 Landang) in Bantaeng Regency is one of the elementary schools in South Sulawesi located in the remote area facing the aforementioned problem. The teachers are forced to teach the students by home visit to provide learning activities. The condition in which people must keep their distance from each other to avoid the spread of COVID-19 virus yields stress. The study aims to analyze the factors that cause stress among elementary school teachers. This cross-sectional survey method involved 47 respondents using Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) on Google Form platform as the instruments. Age and teaching duration had significant association with the stress level among teachers after analysis using chi square test

Tamhidi Centre has been using online tools for learning in past years. The atmosphere of virtual world that is connected online has influenced academia in teaching and learning sessions. Before the Movement Control Order (MCO), blended learning has been carried out for all subjects taught in Tamhidi using Global Open Access Learning System (GOALS) as learning management system provided by USIM. Due to the pandemic outbreak, Tamhidi Centre has faced a challenging time because the semester is already at the final semester for the cohort 2019/2020. During the MCO 1.0, while students were at home, classes were conducted fully online. The final exams was also done online via GOALS. Then, coming the next cohort, for the first time in history, orientation was held online, and students came to campus in an arranged time within the period of seven days. Without having new staff intake, the grouping of students now is increased from 25 students per group to 45 students. Initially, classes are conducted online, both synchronous and asynchronously. All students are involved in this kind of approach, but for science stream students; biology, physics dan chemistry experiments still need to do face to face sessions in the laboratory. This paper will document the experience of several Tamhidi in using online tools before the MCO, during MCO, and after the MCO 1.0 days are over

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an acute infectious disease that causes global outbreaks. The COVID-19 outbreak has forced various sectors to change their approach and daily practice to new alternatives. Dental education is no exception to the effects of this pandemic, which has severely disrupted teaching, learning and clinical activities. The impact of this pandemic on dental education can be classified into different aspects, including academic, practical, research and clinical services. Teaching and learning activities have been transformed into distance learning methods. However, dental educators are still struggling with psychomotor components, including practical and clinical sessions, which are the main course components that are severely affected. This sharing of experience focuses on the effects of the pandemic on the delivery of dental education and the actions taken by the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to ensure continuous learning. The challenges faced by the faculty are overcome with careful planning and discussion through the establishment of specific committees related to various issues, such as online learning and clinical COVID-19 committees. The committees identify any issues, plan the strategies and monitor the implementation of the plan. All actions during the pandemic are closely monitored by managing the faculty and university to ensure implementation of organised and smooth work, good record keeping, and compliance with instructions and guidelines by the authority. &nbsp

Characteristic Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (CVT) in COVID-19: A Systematic Review

    No full text
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is one of the diagnoses reported in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 patients). Meanwhile, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has the potential to cause endothelial dysfunction, increase thrombin generation and inhibit fibrinolysis. This causes hyper coagulopathy, with the potential to become CVT. Therefore, this study aims to determine the characteristics of CVT cases in COVID-19 patients. This systematic review refers to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis) guidelines. The articles were obtained systematically from online databases, Pubmed, Science Direct, as well as Google Scholar, using the search keywords ("COVID 19" OR "SARS-CoV-2 infection" OR "COVID-19 virus disease" OR "2019-nCoV infection" OR "coronavirus disease 2019" OR "coronavirus disease-19" OR "2019- nCoV disease "OR" COVID-19 virus infection") AND" cerebral venous thrombosis " as well as " cerebral venous thrombosis ". After deduplication, eligibility criteria selection and critical assessment on journals, the study reviewed eight patients from four case reports and two case series. According to the characterization, CVT patients with COVID-19 had a mean age of 42.4 years, were mostly male, tended to be cryptogenic, as well as varied neurological symptoms, and increased D-Dimer in most cases. All patients showed CVT features on imaging and were treated using mostly anticoagulants. Five out of the eight patients (50%) died
