    Career Advancement Discrimination Towards Technopreneurial Women in Malaysia

    3 hypotheses are drawn based on previous academic studies and will be tested out in a survey questionnaire. The fundamental theory of this research will be based of the social role, stigma, career advancement theory. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Discrimination and how it affects career advancement towards technopreneurial women in the Malaysian workplace. This discrimination is explored from the aspect of pay wage gap, motherhood penalty, gender roles and stigmatization. Research done by Khazanah Research Institute in recent years shows that half of Malaysian work force are women and therefore there is a need to understand the forms of discriminations is still happening among working women. This research’s study using quantitative methods based on descriptive research, where convenience sampling is used for the study. Self-administered online questionnaires will be distributed to 400 individuals to find significant relationship between discrimination in career advancement among women and pay wage gap, motherhood penalty and gender roles and stigmatization. This research focuses on cross-sectional analysis that employs methodological approaches focused on descriptive research. The results revealed that pay wage gap, motherhood penalty and gender roles and stigmatizations all have a positive significant relationship with discrimination in career advancement against working women in Malaysia

    The Disruptive Power of Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)

    While MOOCs (Massive open online courses) have ignited debate in both academics and practical spheres of learning, there seem to be an absence of integrated approach for ethical conduct, as well as for course design, management, and certification. This paper remarks that systematic approaches, models and best practices for designing, delivering and managing MOOCs would offer a solution to dealing with the technological and pedagogical issues. A few cases of insights have been highlighted for developing and maintaining the real value within specific institutional strategies and implementation. Moreover, a call is made for scientific studies that would unveil comprehensive strategies to reap the full potentials of MOOCs. This article is expected to shed light on the complexities of the MOOCs system as well as to support the development of an ethical and unified discipline, in which all MOOCs developers and institutions are accountable

    Dual phase role of composite adsorbents made from cockleshell and natural zeolite in treating river water

    In this study, the potential of dual-phase composite adsorbent to determine the removal efficiency of organic compounds such as COD, BOD, TP, and TN was investigated. The combination ratio of cockleshell and natural zeolite was optimized using D-optimal mixture design (DMD). The generated ratio was tested using run test in Easy Care PipeSystem (ECPS). Breakthrough curve was plotted to determine the total removal by composite adsorbent. In addition, linearization of the breakthrough curve by dynamic models was implemented to characterize the adsorption process by the composite adsorbent in ECPS column model. The linearization of breakthrough curve was done using mathematical models, Adam-Bohart, Yoon-Nelson and Thomas model. It was found that the optimal mixture ratio was at 75% cockleshells and 25% natural zeolite. Based on the experiments, the composite adsorbent showed high tendency to higher removal by 90% of targeted value. Based on the results, the composite adsorbent was fitted better with Yoon-Nelson and Thomas model rather than Adam-Bohart model. The generated models were able to characterize the adsorption process using composite adsorbent in the ECPS column system

    An analysis of the religious, social factors and income’s influence on the decision making in Islamic microfinance schemes

    Purpose Islamic microfinance schemes are designed and developed with the primary intention of poverty alleviation and fulfillment of the Islamic law requirements. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of religiosity, religious leader’s endorsement, social influence and income on the intention to apply for Islamic microfinance among Muslims in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on a public survey to collect primary data from various states in Malaysia. Then, structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to analyse the data set. Findings The results of SEM indicate significant roles for religiosity and religious leader’s endorsement as religion-based factors on intention to apply for microfinance products. Moreover, social influence (peer-pressure) is influential on the financial decision-making process. The authors also examined the moderation effect of gender on these relations and found that females, in comparison to males, tend to be more influenced by religious leader’s endorsement and social influence. On the other hand, male with higher religiosity tend to favour Islamic microfinance products more than females. Originality/value Findings of this study are new in many aspects, most importantly as it sheds light into the role of religiosity and religious leader’s endorsement on the decision-making process in microfinancing services

    A Review on the Air Flow Behaviour in the Intake Pipe

    The air flow behaviour plays an important role to provide the better ram air effect inside the intake manifold for combustion. The aim of this study is to review various research paper on air flow in the intake manifold. The study is mainly focussed on the geometrical influence in the air flow behaviour in the intake pipe. Most of the studies emphasized on the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software which is utilized as tool to investigate the air flow behaviour in the pipe. The important variables that taken into consideration are the shape of pipe inlet, intake pipe diameter, and bending angle of the intake pipe. By conducting the review on the papers, the possible alternatives could be obtained to overcome the air restrictions in the intake pipe and increase the performance of the engine

    Effects of soil type on the growth of polytrichum commune

    Mosses, classified as bryophytes, are of economic importance in the horticulture industry where they are used for decoration and gifts. Polytrichum commune (common haircap moss) is a popular moss species used in TerraLiving’s terrariums. However, moss growth is slow, taking up to 12 months for complete growth which limits its economic value. Moss is conventionally grown on peat soil but its prolonged use under the slow moss growth is uneconomical. Therefore, synthetic soil has been proposed as an alternative growth media. Hence, the aims of this study are to investigate the physicochemical characteristics of both peat and synthetic soils which affect the growth of common haircap moss (in terms of increase in horizontal length and number of shoots). Soil pH and cation exchange capacity (CEC) to study the rationale behind. Polytrichum commune was grown in both peat and synthetic soils over a course of 6 weeks (after an acclimatization period of 2 weeks) to determine their rate of growth in different soil types, measured in terms of horizontal length increment (in mm) and number of new shoots. It was observed that the moss grown in peat soil exhibited greater horizontal growth (9.280 ± 2.756 mm) than synthetic soil. This is heavily linked to the significantly lower pH and higher CEC of peat soil. The number of shoots formed was similar in both peat and synthetic soil (8.267 ± 1.535 and 7.8 ± 0.803 respectively), possibly due to similar levels of phytohormone production. In conclusion, peat soil is a better media for the growth and cultivation of P. commune

    Smart Sensor System in Enhancing Construction Site Safety Management

    The Smart Sensor System is a derivative product that executes in the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT). It is anticipated as an effective way to collect, identify, and process information, sensor-based technology is deemed to provide a new generation of methods for advancing construction safety management. Since Malaysia's construction industry has faced a vital issue due to the high frequency of construction accidents over the years, the smart sensor system is recommended to be implemented in improving the construction site safety management. It makes the real-time construction safety management with high efficiency and accuracy a reality and provides a solid foundation for facilitating its modernization, and informatization. This paper aims to analyze the potential of the Smart Sensor System in enhancing the construction site safety. This research utilized the qualitative method by interviewing experienced professionals, as safety officers and an Information Technology (IT) engineer. The result shows that the smart sensor has high potential to be implemented in the construction industry for site safety management while minor improvement and enhancement need to be carried out in minimizing error risk, coverage, and cost performance

    Building Energy Analysis of a School Building using Revit

    Global warming and environmental issues have driven the demand for high efficient buildings. The integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and energy assessments tools to the construction process have contributed to proper selection of building materials and significant reduction in energy consumption. With BIM, the energy consumption is an integrated part of a building design, where energy analyses begin at the conceptual stage of the project. This study considers an energy analysis of a school building located in Spain. The building is an object of study in an inter-university project between INTI International University and another Spain university in 2018. Upon the completion of that project, the authors become interested in the energy usage of the building, which has not been completed then. The new analysis uses Autodesk Revit to develop a Building Performance Analysis (BPA) and to predict its energy performance, including the consideration of building materials and weathering effects. The analysis is able to estimate the CO2 emission, cooling and heating loads, and the electrical usage of the building. With a single and modern workstation, an engineer can carry out the complete analysis of a small building with ease

    Virtual Reality as a Tool in Pulmonary Rehabilitation: A Narrative Review

    Background and Objective: Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) has been widely accepted as a standard non-pharmacological intervention for the management of chronic lung diseases. The 21st century has ushered in the age of technology utilization in every field including healthcare. Virtual Reality (VR) is an emerging technology with several potential benefits in almost every aspect of PR, whether be it assessment or treatment. This narrative review aims to explore emerging evidence regarding the utilization of VR in PR, adding feathers to the emerging IR4.0. Methods and Results: Literature related to the utilization of VR in PR was sourced from following electronic databases from inception until May 2020: Google Scholar, PubMed, PEDro, and Cochrane databases. A total of 14 articles that informed the content of the present review were identified. These articles were reviewed and summarized with an emphasis on how VR could be beneficial as an adjunct to the current practice of PR. Conclusion: VR shows promising results as a beneficial intervention in the rehabilitation of patients with chronic lung diseases. However, further research with large, well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to further support these shreds of evidence

    The Influence of Packaging Attributes on Customer Buying Decision

    Past studies reveal that efforts on the packaging strategies have become an increasing powerful marketing tool to attract customers. Packaging attributes such as packaging graphics, package designs, colors, shapes and pictures attracts consumers’ attention to a particular brand and influences consumer’s perceptions about product. However, the main objective of the present study is to examine the packaging attributes affecting the customers buying decisions. Specifically, this study focuses on the relationship between packaging color, packaging material, printed information on customers buying decision. The data of this study is collected using survey questionnaire and The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software is adopted to analyze the collected data. This study reveals that customers viewed printed information of products as the most important factor that influence buying decision. Meantime, finding from this study also reveals that packaging material is less influenced by the customer buying decision. The implication of the study is that marketers shall place printed information as the marketing focus when dealing with car marketing strategy towards potential customers
