    CNC Cutting Tools` Life Prediction Using Data Mining Approach

    The failure of CNC machine tools has always been a negative impact on the manufacturing environment. The consequences of the failure will influence the production control, which further increases the duration of unplanned maintenance. To avoid such situations, it is required to predict the tools’ behaviours based on the raw data collected from machines. Hence, the objective of this paper is to obtain the machine tool life using the machining parameters including cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut which may affect the tool life in the prediction. All the data is collected by using different types of machine tools material against different types of workpieces. In this paper, classification is chosen to be the data mining approach with two algorithms to build the model for prediction, which are linear regression and multilayer perceptron. The data collected was being split into training and testing data. There are 40% of the data used for training data to build the predictive models while 60% of the data collected is used as testing data. The result of predicted tool life is then validated with the Taylor’s Extended Tool Life equation according to the ISO standard 3685 and ISO 8688-2. The results show that our proposed method is on par with the tool life predicted by Taylor’s method

    Ceropegia juncea Roxb.: A Review

    Nature has abundant source of herbs. Each herb have certain phyto-constituents, that isolated substances are utilized as drug. Through this review distribution, morphology, phytochemistry and pharmacological Ceropegia juncea Roxb. were analysed. The steroids, terpenoids, anthocyanins, anthracene glycosides, coumarins, flavonoids, fatty acids, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, carotenoids, tannins, saponins, and carbohydrates, lipids, sugars, potassium, lupeol and stigmasterol are found in preliminary phytochemical analysis. FTIR results have shown the functional groups of alcohol, aldehyde, alkyne, alkene and amines, except ester. The proven results of HPLC & HPTLC showed the presence of cerapegin. Cerapegin is reported to hypotensive, hepatoprotective, antiulcer, antipyretic. Also, the coumarin present in Ceropegia juncea Roxb is found to have anti – coagulant, anti- oxidant, anti – allergic, anti- thrombotic, anti – inflammatory, anti – proliferative, anti-viral, anti- carcinogenic, analgesic activities, cytoprotective and modulatory functions. Coumarin and ceropegin are mostly used to prepare soma drink and also there were 29 components isolated from C.juncea Roxb. The antimicrobial studies also notified in this review. This review summarizes the medicinal value of Ceropegia juncea Roxb. in both traditional and ayurvedic system

    Android Application for Managing Urgent Convalescent Plasma Blood Request for Covid19 Treatment

    The emergence of the covid19 pandemic has forced many countries to be more focused on the technologies that can save human life. A lot of efforts have focused on containment and mitigation actions with varying degrees of success. However, lack of attention given to administering urgent requests for convalescent plasma blood as part of treatment for critical covid19 patients although the passive administration of antibodies from a person who has convalesced may be an effective therapy for those patients who have yet to develop their antibody response. Hence, interest in the use of convalescent plasma has been rising, not only commenced by medical professionals but also among patients’ family members, especially for urgent requests. This paper proposed timeline-based posts to tackle the urgent-request issue that sort based on first come first serve priority. From this timeline, the people in search of donors may find donors’ information and location quickly. Furthermore, we added a timeline page, search function, a virtual assistant (chatbot) that automatically shares posts to social media without exiting the app, etc. These features promote the hit to the right users and their respond faster than before. The previous study reported from the 40 PSARS patients undergoing ribavirin and methylprednisolone treatment, 19 were administered with convalescent plasma, whereas 21 were given an additional dose of methylprednisolone. The group of patients who were treated with plasma therapy showed better recovery and reduced mortality. With this situation, we hope our contribution in the form of an Android app can assist those in need at the right time and save more lives. Moreover, this app can be referred to as a model for other comparable apps

    A STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT APPROACH TOWARDS PROTECTED AREAS AND INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

    International environmental conservation efforts are focused on the establishment, expansion and maintenance of Protected Areas. The existence of Protected Areas are customarily justified with biological and social considerations. Biological considerations refer to the value of the Protected Areas from a biological perspective such as biodiversity, threatened and/or endangered species, ecological integrity, and environmental sustainability; and are commonly employed supported by extensive field research. Social considerations refers to the value of the Protected Areas from a human perspective such as aesthetics, enjoyment and utility; and are less prominently employed with comparatively less sociological research conducted on Protected Areas. Sound and sustainable management of Protected Areas require justifications with both biological and social considerations. This paper introduces a strategic management approach that encompasses both social and biological considerations. By bridging both biological and social considerations, strategic management approach is deemed more robust and appropriate. Strategic management approach reveals Domestic Tourists as a key stakeholder with a strong influence on the establishment, expansion and maintenance of Protected Areas. The role and effect of Domestic Tourists is investigated with a case study on Protected Areas in the State of Penang in Malaysia. Penang hosts six (6) Protected Areas despite being a small State with limited land. The findings reveal that Domestic Tourists are important key stakeholders, but their influence varies among the Protected Areas. These findings and insights establishes the importance of a strategic management approach towards Protected Areas and recommendations are proposed accordingly

    Design and Implementation of Online Examination System for a Higher Educational Institution

    When Covid19 was declared a world pandemic, online learning was to replace all the physical classes and examinations. The main concern would be managing question papers online and plagiarism opportunities that may occur during the examination. This paper highlights the developing an Online Examination System (OES) in the form of a web-based application that enables lecturers to manage their exam papers, assign them to their students, utilize auto-grading objective questions and provide feedback for subjective questions. The OES is accessible by mobile phone users whereby both lecturers and students are equipped with their dashboards to manage their needs. The OES framework focuses on a single university due to the closure of the campus and social distancing measurement to perform data collection. This paper includes the impact on the transition of physical to online examination, problem identification with solutions, and to what extent the OES can assist lecturers to conduct a smooth online examination. The OES was developed using PHP with MySQL, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, and AJAX. The usability and user acceptance testing was conducted. The results show that most respondents agreed there is a need to have a system such as OES with future enhancements on the proctoring technology to prevent plagiarism. The outcome of usability testing was satisfactory and most respondents suggested including more enhanced features in the next development

    Case Study of Polymer Concrete Composite for Pre-cast Product Application

    Polymer concrete (PC) is a composite material made by fully replacing the cement binders of conventional cement concrete with polymeric binders. The property of PC is superior to cement concrete in term of curing time, higher strength, bulk modulus, acid or chemical material resistance as well as corrosion, ability to form complex shapes, and excellent vibration damping properties. The purpose of this study is to investigate strength limit of PC specimens with composition variations. In this project, experimental study has been performed on PC with variations of aggregates mixtures and resin ratio. Various composition of PC based on literatures are tested to determine the best composition for pre-cast product application. The study reveals that PC with fine aggregates and 30:70 aggregate resin ratio (AG2RT2) has the highest compressive strength (94.73 MPa) and water proof capacity (0%). Then PC with fine and coarse aggregates, fillers and chopped fibers (AG4RT2) has the highest flexural strength (12.94 MPa). The optimum PC composition specification has been applied to produce pre-cast product and field test has confirmed the product strength and durability. There are three PC pre-cast products that have been produced; plate, grating and drain trench before simple field test applied to observe the products serviceability. All products do not fail in field test within predetermined limit; static loading, free fall and water flow test. The potential to apply PC in existing pre-cast cement concrete product has been proven to enhance the product performance as well as preserving the nature by introducing polymeric resins as a replacement to cement

This is also supporting for environmental, social and governance (ECG) objectives. Four independent variables which are attitude towards green stock, social influence, perceived risk, and perceived return, had been recognized in the study to have a further understanding of the intention on green stocks investment among Malaysians which to explore on integration of sustainable on environmental finance. Total 139 valid respondents tested using the SPSS statistical tool for hypotheses tested. Research found P-value is less than 0.05 that resulted 3 out of 4 variables are significant

    University Students’ Satisfaction and Future Outlook towards Forced Remote Learning during a Global Pandemic

    Technology has enabled the higher education ecosystem to tailor to the students who have diverse needs and to engage with them remotely, especially when face-to-face interaction is not possible. This research contributes knowledge in forced remote learning during the unprecedented global pandemic situation of Covid-19. Using a cross-sectional quantitative method, a total of 480 respondents among undergraduate students from five private universities in Malaysia participated in this study. The data was analysed using structural equation modelling and results indicated that online feedback, online future relevance, online interaction, online teaching effectiveness, and personal well-being were statistically significant in influencing students’ satisfaction. Moreover, online learning satisfaction directly predicted 68.3% of the students’ continuous usage intention while their usage intention was heightened with higher levels of proficiency in online learning. Students’ satisfaction was found to be a significant mediator between all the factors towards usage intention except online assessment, online support, and personal well-being. This study provides the higher education institutions with insights to continuously improve their online delivery strategies and bridge the gap with their students during the pandemic crisis

    DETERMINANTS OF KNOWLEDGE SHARING BEHAVIOUR AMONG STUDENTS OF PRIVATE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN KLANG VALLEY, MALAYSIA

    Activities relating to knowledge sharing in education institutions is getting popular these days. University and college can practice knowledge sharing through initiatives like giving rewards to motivate students to share knowledge. Students who develop the knowledge sharing habit tend to carry the habit to their future workplace. Organisations need employees who are willing to share knowledge to gain competitive advantage and reduce training costs. Thus, the objective of this study is to identify factors affecting the knowledge sharing behaviour of students in higher education institutions. Quantitative research is employed by testing theoretical and hypotheses using a sample size of 100 respondents. PLS software is used for statistical analysis after collecting data. The findings show that extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation and organisational culture have significant impact on knowledge sharing behaviour, while interpersonal trust has no impact on the latter. Hence, authorities of university and college are recommended to use different motivators to encourage students to participate in knowledge sharing. For example, university and college can provide scholarships for extrinsically motivated students to share knowledge
