    Get PDF
The tenacity of this paper is to understand the concept of ‘relative efficiency’ as an alternative measure to assess bank performance, and to investigate the progressive performance of foreign and domestic banks in Pakistan. A very steady growth is observed in assets of foreign banks in Pakistan although Pakistani banking sector has very limited contribution of foreign banks but its historic contribution is much accountable towards economic growth. The significance of this study is that we have conducted the study in Pakistan which was not explored earlier. A research design is the structure for investigation and way of finding out the answer of research question (Huizinga, 1999). We have conducted this research under the umbrella of Quantitative paradigm. Our preferred methodology is CAMELS. This system was developed by ACCION (Americans for Community Co-operation in Other Nations) in 1980’s to help regulator banks of North America (hUallachain, 1994). CAMELS methodology adopted by North America Bank regulators to know the financial and managerial reliability of commercial lending institutions. For sample selection of the banks, we used criteria sampling method that is a type of non-probability sampling. We took sample data of 16 banks working in Pakistan from the period of 2014-2016. Groups are structured according to their ownership status. After assessment of CAMELS rating system in the context of Pakistan banking industry, it is observed that CAMELS is an internal rating system and its results are not available to the general public but to the regulators and the directors of the banks, so we implement its ratios to avail the result of the sample banks. Results of international credit rating agencies such as S&P, Moody’s and Fitch should also be compare for similarities with CAMELS or any of the supervisory rating systems implemented in different countries. It would be productive research to study adoptability of CAMELS rating system in the context of Islamic banking system.

    Get PDF
Fairness in the workplace is imperative in the emergency services sector. Most of the organizational justice and workplace deviance literature addresses the non-emergency services perspective, while research involving the emergency services personnel have been lacking. The aim of the present study is to examine the relationship between emergency services personnel perception of organizational justice and employee deviance. A cross-sectional field survey was conducted utilizing a sample of 209 in 10 Emergency Services Centers in Malaysia. Employees rated fairness in the distribution of outcomes and rewards (distributive justice), fairness in interaction with managers (interpersonal justice) and candid explanation (informational justice), fairness in procedures implementation (procedural justice) and the frequency to exhibit deviant behaviors at work (employee deviance). Analysis results revealed that low levels of interpersonal justice and informational justice predicted deviant acts targeted at other individuals, while low levels of distributive justice and informational justice predicted deviant acts targeted at the organization. This study adds to the growing body of research on employee deviance literature by empirically validating the workplace deviance typology in an emergency services setting and by examining four types of organizational justice simultaneously on employee deviance

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of the learning dimensions in the organizational learning of the petrochemical organizations in the GCC countries. It had utilized four dimensions: learning barriers; learning essentials; learning enablers; and learning orientations that were synthesized from previous research. It has also put them into a framework where organizations can be assessed by. Four hundred sixtyfour individuals from three management levels have participated in a self-administered survey, which represent five organizations from the petrochemical sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The data was subjected to a number of tests such as normality test, homogeneity test, and sphericity test prior to conducting factor analysis, ANOVA and Chi-square analyses to answer the six research questions with four hypotheses. The results of the study indicated that: no strong learning barriers exist among the three distinct management levels and that no significant differences exist among the organizations. The conditions, a component of the learning essentials dimension that can help organizational learning were found to differ across the petrochemical organizations but not across the three distinct management levels. The factors, a component of the learning essentials dimension, that affect learning were found not to differ across the petrochemical organizations nor across the three distinct management levels and the same result was found for the benefits of the organizational learning. The learning enablers did not differ significantly across the three management levels, but differed across petrochemical organizations; and the learning orientations of the five participated petrochemical organizations were identified and that two variables out of the seven variables of the learning orientations, knowledge source and skill development differed across these organizations. The result of the study can be used a measurement tool to help organizations make informed decisions when investing on developing learning capabilities. Furthermore, the study brought valuable insights from three distinct management levels with relation to the identified organizational learning dimensions
