    Get PDF
This research has focused on understanding the factors that influence, Omani consumers’ purchase behaviour towards consumer goods under the global oil crisis driven scenario. The literature review helped the researcher to identify product, price, place, promotion, socio-cultural factor, value perception and price consciousness as the variables that may affect the consumer purchase behaviour towards consumer goods. The possible influence of these factors on consumer purchase behaviour were tested through nine hypotheses, using structural equation modelling technique, on the data collected through reliability and validity tested questionnaire, among the samples identified through cluster sampling method, within the target population consisted of individuals between 15 to 64 years of age. The research found ‘product’ to exert major influence on consumers’ purchase behaviour towards consumer goods followed by price, place and promotional elements. The study also found socio-cultural factor to play a mediating role on the relationship between price and consumer purchase behaviour, apart from its direct influence on consumer purchase behaviour. Value perception was also found to influence the consumer purchase behaviour, while playing mediatory role on the relationship between consumer purchase behaviour and marketing mix elements price and promotion. This study has also found price consciousness to play moderating role on the relationship between consumer purchase behaviour and marketing mix elements price, place and promotion. This study adds immense value and variety to the existing literature with focused, country specific information, while supporting the business organizations in reviewing and improving their marketing effort. This research findings could also support the retail industry by providing focused information about the factors that influence consumers’ purchase behaviour towards consumer goods. This study also extends its contribution towards policy development by providing useful inputs to the local authorities to understand the factors that influence consumer purchase behaviour and redefine their strategies to improve consumer spending, while guiding future researchers, as these findings could be used as a point of reference for future studies

Analysis Of Decision Support Systems for Candidate Selection Scholarship Recipients Using TOPSIS Method

    Get PDF
The high cost of completing education is one of the problems that exist in Indonesia. In order to solve this issue, one of the things that can be done is to provide scholarship assistance to students who excel or are less able. In every educational institution, especially in high school (SMA), there are many scholarships offered to students who excel and less fortunate students. With so many students who want to get these scholarships, a decision support system is needed to receive scholarships as expected. The current manual system can be inaccurate, considering that several criteria must be carefully considered. The average value of report cards, behavior, attendance, the amount of parental income, and the number of dependents of parents are all criteria that must be considered when evaluating prospective scholarship recipients. This study uses the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to select scholarship recipients. The objectives of this study are how to develop a Decision Support System model with the TOPSIS methods for determining exemplary student for scholarship

Integrate Kano's Model and Servqual to Improve the Service Quality of Facilities Management in Hong Kong

    Get PDF
Facility management in Hong Kong is still in an early learning cycle when compared to that in the USA, or any other European countries where the practice has been on since the 1990’s. Some of the organizations in these foreign countries are increasingly embracing the need for efficient facilities management and many of them have already since been improving their service qualities using either one of the two mainstream service quality models, that is, Noriaki Kano’s (1984) Kano model for the expectation of a product or service before it is launched, and the PZB model (Parasuraman, Zeithaml & Berry, 1985) for assessing customers’ expectations towards quality (i.e. a model for post-launch evaluation). While quality research seems to be more prevalent in countries where customers are collectivistic and dependent (Cheng & Wong, 2017), no literature was found to have looked into both the PZB and the Kano models to see how customers’ expectations differ before and after a service is launched or what type of customer would provide likely be more sensitive toward what good quality is. This research, hence, aims to explore using both the PZB and the Kano models to see if discrepancies exist between “what customers envisioned (before a service is launched)” as measured using Kano and “how people evaluate what is missing (after a service is made available)” using PZB. Results showed that clients normally have no idea what good quality practically means from the FM perspective and that to achieve ‘good quality’, one prerequisite is to satisfy the more ‘responsive’ and ‘critical’ gaps as identified by female, and not male, respondents

Evaluating the Relationship Between Organisational Culture, Job Satisfaction and Intention to Leave of Commercial Bank Employees in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Commercial banks are the largest fund providers in Malaysia's banking industry. Despite being a major player, maintaining an effective workforce is a challenge for commercial banking, especially when facing substantial changes. To understand employee behavioural patterns toward bank performance, the subject of intention to leave is not adequately explored in Malaysian commercial banking and has received little academic attention. Given the industry's demand, a comprehensive and extended framework is still absent, which justifies this thesis's objective. With the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) as a baseline, the conceptual framework was extended with four dimensions of job satisfaction, i.e., satisfaction with co-workers relationship, satisfaction with compensation, satisfaction with supervision, and satisfaction with working condition. These dimensions, along with organisational culture, acted as a mediator in determining employee intentions to leave commercial banking. A total of 401 responses were gathered from Malaysian commercial bank employees via a questionnaire, using proportional stratified sampling and the drop-off and pick-up (DOPU) method. The findings of the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) indicated that 9 of the 13 hypotheses tested are supported. The model explains 23 percent of the satisfaction with co-workers relationship, 32 percent of the satisfaction with compensation, 32 percent of the satisfaction with supervision, 24 percent of the satisfaction with working condition, and 39 percent of the intention to leave. The study has established a direct relationship with organisational culture towards satisfaction with co-workers relationship, satisfaction with compensation, satisfaction with supervision, and satisfaction with working condition. Besides, there was a direct relationship with satisfaction with co-workers relationships and satisfaction with compensation for the intention to leave. The study has also confirmed that satisfaction with co-workers relationship and satisfaction with compensation have a mediating effect on organisational culture. Academically, the extended framework contributes to the human resources and commercial banking literature in the Malaysian context. These novel findings provide an understanding of employees' intention to leave and guidance to senior leaders, managers, and human resources in improving their existing practises to persuade a favourable behavioural response of the employees towards commercial banking

A Measurement Model of Successful Halal Industry

    No full text
The halal industry has experienced accelerated growth globally, contributing RM7.4 trillion (USD 2.3 trillion). Therefore, this study proposes a conceptual model of the halal industry’s success within a literature review, including a descriptive-qualitative approach. It is utilised to define the indicators concerning the success of the halal industry and predictor factors that have a significant effect. This study is a conceptual work that identifies several factors that influence the success of the halal industry by surveying several factors that affect them. The survey was performed through a literature review. This study displays three indicators of success in the halal sector: business growth, growth, the decision to buy, and financial performance. In addition, this study discovered that four factors are predicted to significantly affect the success of the halal industry: halal certification, product quality, governance support, and Sharia banks. The results obtained from conceptual models and hypotheses are demanded to examine this effect. It is also utilised to design new constructions validated to confirm the halal industry in various countries. Therefore, this conceptual model stands desired to study the success of specific halal sectors further

Locating Logic Faculty in the Mental System

    No full text
Taken from Chomsky’s Knowledge of Language (1986), it is noted that logical form (LF) is not a direct reflection of deep structure (D-structure). It has induced a question, where is then 'logic' located in the human psychology (in the sense of the mind-system) if it is not in the D-structure. To answer this question, we will try to see how different languages (in this paper, English, Malay and Turkish) are structured differently on the surface (S structure) yet can have the same internal syntax (D-structure). However, when there is a change in semantics (in the sense of intended meaning), a change in LF is noted, although the D-structure might remain the same. Making sense of this, we argue that D-structure is not the innermost faculty of the human innate system (mind) but rather, how S-structure is to D-structure, that is how D-structure is to the human logic faculty. In other words, with D-structure, logic faculty is more profound

Nurses, as health care professionals, have the duty to ensure that their patients are free from any nosocomial infection that may happen, especially within 48 hours after post-administration in a hospital setting. The importance of knowledge, attitude, and hands-on practices may influence the nurses’ compliance towards infection control practices, especially among the Malaysian nurses from selected hospitals, in order to meet the challenges of protecting the patients who are receiving treatments. If these infections are prevented in the clinical environment, it will be able to help the patients with early recovery and obtaining high-quality medical care in the clinical setting. Hence, this study investigated the knowledge, attitudes, skill, and practices towards the compliance of infection control practices at a clinical location among the nurses from selected hospitals, with the aim of achieving the end safety treatment to patients' care. The study was conducted by involving nurses from selected local government and private hospitals. The study used a cross-sectional and survey questionnaire that analyzed factors related to knowledge, attitude, and practices. A total of 400 samples were obtained with stratified random sampling that focused on nurses who are practicing in Malaysian hospitals. Next, data analyses were done by using mean and standard deviations, followed by analysis with One-way ANOVA to test the hypotheses at <0.05 levels of significance respectively through the use of the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 22.0. The main study population (n=400) was distributed with the questionnaires. Out of the 400 questionnaires distributed, 359 were returned with completed finding, hence 1% of the study population did not response to the survey. The results showed that 66.7% of the selected nurses had high knowledge in infection control practices, while 58% of them were positive toward the implementation of infection control practices. Gender (p=0.016) and the years of clinical working experiences (p=0.001) were found to significantly influenced attitudes. These findings indicated that there is knowledge, attitude and practice gap influences among Malaysian nurses. The results showed that the nurses in the selected hospitals demonstrated a moderate level of intention to work, with significant mean difference (mean diff=-0.287, p<0.05) was detected between the 21 to 25 years old and over 30 years old responses. Throughout the study finding, a state-wide survey was utilized to measure the IPC practice compliance among Malaysian nurses from the selected hospitals. These nurses were determined to be insufficiently performing in knowledge attitude towards compliance in infection control practices. The non-compliance skill practices among these Malaysian nurses may lead to infection breakdown, thus affecting patient safety in the hospital setting
