Reading comprehension is a daunting task for many ESL learners in the context of Malaysia. Also, little attention, if any, has been accorded to how reflectivity and impulsivity affect language learners’ reading comprehension. To solve this problem, this study focused on the effect of an intervention in the form of a speed reading course on the reading comprehension of reflective and impulsive ESL learners at a college in Malaysia. A confirmatory sequence mixed-methods study was designed. Based on the results of the Nelson Denny Reading pretest, selected samples (n=142) were divided into three groups, i.e., one control group and two experimental groups of impulsive and reflective learners. Barrats et al. (1995) impulsivity test and Kember et al. (2000) reflectivity test was used to group the participants into reflective and impulsive learners. Also 18 reading passages were assigned to the participants in 18 sessions of the treatment course. While the control group read the texts at their convenience, the experimental group recorded their reading time in a score sheet. This information and their reading scores were used to check their progress throughout the course. The comparison the pretest and post-test results allowed the researcher to answer the research questions. As the results of the study revealed, while the speed reading course affected the participants’ reading comprehension, impulsivity or reflectivity did not result in any significant differences. The participants’ reading time was significantly decreased; however, no significant difference was observed between the impulsive and the reflective learners in terms of reading time. Also, after interviewing 13 respondents, the qualitative analysis results through Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) revealed that the respondents noticed increased efficiency and better comprehension, realized reading techniques, gained confidence in speed reading, found reading easier and more joyful. Time management, answering all questions, reading the whole text, and understanding difficult vocabulary items were among the course's challenges. The respondents also suggested strategy instruction, more practice tests, teaching the essay format and group work to be added to the course. This study has pedagogical implications for course designers and language teachers

Phishing e-mails are major cyber threats not only to organisations but also to individuals. In many cases of reported phishing incidents, individuals fall prey to the trap of phishing e-mails because they believe the e-mails they received are legit. Previous studies have identified individual personality traits as one of the factors that can cause a person to become a victim of phishing attacks. Separately, different studies have also revealed that individuals’ handling of phishing threats and their actions to cope with such threats as other factors that can lead to a similar problem. To help understand the reason why certain types of personality traits are more inclined to respond to phishing e-mails, this study examined the role of individual protection motivation as the possible determinant that could further explain the relationships between personality traits and an individual’s response to phishing e-mails. The findings from 400 analysed data revealed that different personality traits except the trait of openness, exhibit different levels of perception in terms of their respective protection motivation. The study also found that individuals' tendency to respond to phishing e-mails depends on how they perceive the phishing threats and how they cope with such threats. Specifically, analysis of the results revealed that individuals with the trait of neuroticism have a high likelihood of responding to phishing emails. The study contributes to the body of knowledge by expanding the application of the Protection Motivation Theory to explain why certain types of personality traits have a higher tendency to respond to phishing e-mails than others. To avoid becoming phishing victims, individuals and as well as organisations should, therefore, put in greater efforts to ensure effective and sufficient coping strategies are in place to counter such threats. The implementation of anti-phishing training and phishing awareness campaigns can facilitate the attainment of this objective

This research aims to propose a strategy for equitable development by gathering information on the living conditions of people in rural areas and grouping villages based on the Community Standard of Living Index (CSLI). Rural areas often face issues such as poverty, inequality, and inadequate access to services, necessitating a rural development strategy for poverty alleviation and empowerment of rural communities. The foundation of successful surveybased research is accurately describing the practices, conditions, experiences, personal characteristics, or opinions of respondents through the questions asked. The stages of this study include the validation of 38 criteria by experts, verification and evaluation using the MOO-Fuzzy Delphi method, weighting with the RR method, village scoring, and clustering using the SOM method. The scores from all respondents were calculated and used as input for the scoring process, which determined the village score. The results indicate that 10 villages fall into the Poor Level of CSLI group. The innovation of this study lies in the method used to develop the Community Standard of Living Index for each village, providing a potential solution for addressing the lack of community participation and delays in presenting information about development conditions in villages
