Farm News: The farm is almost completely planted out now. Here's a shot of the north fields this morning. The rows of tan are the pumpkins and squash with a biodegradable paper mulch for weed control. The crop just in front is newly germinated buckwheat. This is a variety trial with seed from the European Union that the Sustainable Seed Lab is working on. And beyond that are all the weekly plantings of carrots, salad mix, and beets

Farm News, July 1, 2020: Here's a shot of the 3 acre wetland west of the farm along Animal Science Rd that we maintain. It's separate from the farm and not certified as we don't produce any crops there but it does have a beautiful stand of cattails and some trees and shrubs growing that were planted by different student groups back when we were developing the new farm. It's fun to see those planting taking shape and all the birds that appreciate the habitat

Farm News, August 12, 2020: The garlic is finally ready for market! What a long crop...alliums are notoriously slow growers but garlic is in a different league all together. We only have it out of the ground for about 3 months of the year. It's planted in October, puts in winter roots and waits for the spring sun and rain. We harvest in July and hang in the barn to cure until ready for eating or storage. This variety, Inchelium Red, does store well, as do most softneck types. We are offering this in .25 pound sizes (about 2 heads). If you'd like to get more, feel free to add on at the farm stand or online. And, stay tuned for garlic braids coming to the online store
