Complex vs etale Abel Jacobi map for higher Chow groups and algebraicity of the zero locus of etale normal functions
We prove, using p-adic Hodge theory for open algebraic varieties, that for a smooth projective variety over k ⊂ C the complex abel jacobi map vanishes if the etale abel jacobi map vanishes. This implies that for a smooth projective morphism f : X → S of smooth complex algebraic varieties over k ⊂ C and Z ∈ Z d (X, n) f,∂=0 an algebraic cycle flat over S whose cohomology class vanishes on fibers, the zero locus of the etale normal function associated to Z is contained in the zero locus of the complex normal function associated to Z. From the work of Saito or Charles, we deduce that the zero locus of the complex normal function associated to Z is defined over the algebraic closure k of k if the zero locus of the etale normal function associated to Z is not empty. We also prove an algebraicity result for the zero locus of an etale normal function associated to an algebraic cycle

International audienceSoundscapes are emerging today as a tool to inform socio-environmental changes in rapidly changing territories and can feed mobilization projects at the local scale. Our research project Sonatas (Listening to the SOunds of NAture to undersTAnd global environmental changeS - funded by the LabEx Driihm) aims to understand how local communities hear, respond and adapt to changes in their territories in Southern Arizona. These territories are subject to multiple sociological and environmental changes, such as global warming, water scarcity, uncontrolled urbanization, and important mining projects with heavy environmental consequences. Through acoustic recordings of soundscapes conducted near existing mining sites, we document the impacts of urbanization and mining operations on ecosystems and biodiversity. The mining territories are places of strong mobilizations of the local communities which divide the inhabitants and causes many tensions, between those who want to exploit and survive economically and those who favor the preservation of the environment. We met with citizens during dedicated interviews or participant observations in order to understand their perceptions (auditory but not only) of the changes and to understand the multiple actions carried out collectively to accompany or face them. Some citizens are organizing themselves to try to minimize the impact of extractions on the environment, creating more or less institutionalized groups, promoting protection measures on the territories or collective purchasing land to stop its progression. Through Sonatas, we wish to show how, in these situations, soundscapes can be a tool for action at a local scale.
A posteriori error estimates for the Large Eddy Simulation applied to incompressible fluids
International audienceWe study the two dimensional time dependent Large Eddy Simulation method applied to the incompressible Navier–Stokes system with Smagorinsky’s eddy viscosity model and a filter width that depends on the local mesh size. The discrete model is based on the implicit Euler scheme and a conforming finite element method for the time and space discretizations, respectively. We establish a reliable and efficient a posteriori error estimation between the numerical LES solution and the exact solution of the original Navier–Stokes system, which involves three types of error indicators respectively related to the filter and to the discretizations in time and space. Numerical results show the effectiveness of adaptive simulation

Introduction à Spinoza, Paris: La Découverte, 2023, 128 p.
International audienceDespite its difficulty, the philosophy of Spinoza (1632-1677) has been the constant object, for nearly four centuries, of readings passionate, biting controversies, interpretations bold. So many reasons that legitimize and justify an introduction to Spinoza able to take into account the historical and conceptual depth of this philosophy,as much as its contemporary readings and effects. Spinoza does not only interest philosophers. The writers (ofGoethe to Borges, via Flaubert and many others) the read and are nourished by it, artists too (from Vermeer to some comic book authors or exhibition creators contemporary), scholars (Einstein in the lead), politicians (from conservatives to anti-globalizationists)... The thought of Spinoza is widely diffused today even in bestsellers (from Irvin Yalom to Frédéric Lenoir). To account for this unique destiny, this book replaces Spinoza in his main philosophical genealogies. It gives a complete and clear picture of the system and concepts. It shows its originality and scope. He makes in this the most up-to-date introduction to Spinoza.
