Adoption of Climate Smart Agricultural Practices among Small Scale Farmers of Kurfa Chele District, East Hararghe Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia.
Get PDFEffective adaptation to climate change among small scale farmers is therefore of critical importance and is dependent on the adoption of climate-smart practices. However, studies have shown low adoption of climate-smart farming practices among small scale farmers world over, in East Hararghe Zone and Kurfa Chele District. This study, therefore, examined factors influencing adoption of climate-smart practices among farmers Kurfa Chele District, East Hararghe Zone, evaluated their existing knowledge, attitude and practice of these practices, assessed their perception of climate change, examined the extent of climate information dissemination, and the resultant impact on the uptake of these practices. The research adopted a survey research design, where both quantitative and qualitative research strategies were used. Data was gathered through Focus Group Discussions, questionnaires, key informant interviews, observations and a desk review. Both simple random and purposive sampling was used to sample 420 small scale farmers and technical officers of the agriculture sector respectively. Data were analysed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. To test the statistical significance of the findings and relationships between the variables, the chi-square test was used
The Effect of Ownership Structure on Company Performance: Evidence from Emerging Market
Get PDFThis paper uses panel data to examine the impact of ownership structure index on the financial performance of 73 listed companies of the Indian national stock exchange from 2009 to 2016. To measure the Panel Regression in this study, the FEM model was used. The different dimensions of the ownership structure index involve ten items used as the Independent variable of this study. Two measures have been adopted to estimate the firm performance that is; ROA and ROE. In contrast, the control variables are firm size and leverage. This study's empirical evidence shows that the ownership structure index has significant impact on a firm's performance measured by ROA and ROE of Indian Nifty 100 listed companies. Findings of this study support previous empirical studies performed and add some value in the research area of finance that explores different aspects of the board of directors' index and ownership structure index in Indian market by using Nifty 100 as an example
Senior high school teachers’ and students’ engagements during the emergency remote teaching (ERT): Perceptions on readiness, attitude, and competence
Get PDFThis quantitative study investigates teachers' and students' perceptions on remote emergency teaching in terms of readiness, attitude, and competence, their significant differences based on their profile, and the significant difference of the respondents' identified variables. Participated by 147 teachers and 409 students of a Senior High School in a comprehensive Catholic university in Manila, results revealed that respondents show their readiness, positive attitude, and competence toward online teaching; however, specific measurements affect student attitude on their online engagement and learning, such as their discomfort and ineffectiveness of this learning modality in producing creativity, interaction, and innovation in e-learning that affects the acquisition of knowledge. Among the respondents' profiles, only their age shows a statistically significant difference, while educational advancement established its significant difference in readiness and competence. Finally, a statistically significant difference between the teachers' and students' readiness, attitude, and competence was evident. Results further proved that behind the sudden shift of the learning environment, the respondents remain positive and resilient in dealing with academic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study further implicates that measuring teachers' and students' readiness, attitude, and competence in different inevitable circumstances remains a significant frame of reference for academic and instructional policy-making
Positive solutions for generalized two-term fractional differential equations with integral boundary conditions
Get PDFIn this paper, we consider a class of boundary value problems for nonlinear two-term fractional differential equations with integral boundary conditions involving two -Caputo fractional derivative. With the help of the properties Green function, the fixed point theorems of Schauder and Banach, and the method of upper and lower solutions, we derive the existence and uniqueness of positive solution of a proposed problem. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the acquired results
Another look at Syntactic Analysis of Hausa Verbs from Wallace Chafe’s Semantic Structure Form Perspective
Get PDFFor several decades, linguists have arrived at the conclusion that semantic structure is the area in which the well-formedness of sentence is determined in all natural languages. Over these years, the issue of semantic structure in syntactic analysis of Hausa verbs takes a back-seat in the Hausa language research despite the centrality of verb as category that determines the organization of the rest categories of the sentence. The present paper employs Wallace Chafe’s semantic structure theory to analyze Hausa sentences that were generated from the Parsonian seven grades of Hausa verbs to justify their structural consideration within semantic structure theory which specifies verb semantically in term of their semantic units that include states, processes and actions. The findings of paper indicate that the semantic formation rules govern the configuration of the basic semantic element in well-formed ‘semantic structure’ underlying the sentence of the language in which verbs dictate the selection of accompanying nouns and of the relations which such nouns bear to verbs
Vaccination status and Seroprevalence of Hepatitis B surface Antigen among Health Care Workers in Taiz, Yemen Republic
Get PDFBackground: Exposure to Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is one of the most common occupational diseases among the providers of the health care services. During the course of their clinical work; Health Care Workers (HCWs) are at risk of acquitting HBV infection or transmitting it to their patients. Vaccination for medical personnel against HBV in Yemen Republic is recommended but not strictly enforced. Detection of the viral hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg) is one of the accurate and cheap methods to assess HBV prevalence. This method is used in this study to assess HBV prevalence among HCWs in Taiz; to in order to improve on methods of interventions to control this infection among them. Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the vaccination status and the seroprevalence of HBsAg among HCWs in Taiz; Yemen republic. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted through the period between January and March, 2018, and from April and July, 2019, in the part of Taiz City; Yemen Republic belonging to legitimate authorities. 362 HCWs were included in this study and are selected through repeated casual visits to hospitals and medical centers. A questioner was made to get information on the participants’ characteristics and their vaccination status, medical hestory and risk factors for HBV transmission. Five ml venous blood was then collected from every participant to assess HBsAg. Results: the overall vaccination percentage was 21.54% (27.5% in male and 17.9% of female). The seroprevalence of HBsAg was 2.76%, all vaccinated participants were HBsAg negative. Needle stick and sharp object injury was an important risk factor of HBV infection
Multilingualism and Multiculturalism Impact on Shaping Oral Literacy and Communicative Competence
Get PDFThis study was conducted to investigate on how does the multilingual and multicultural factor affect an individual oral literacy by conducting an interview session and correspondingly examine the features of the conversation from the interview session through a conversational analysis method. The purpose of the study is to have a better understanding of the strategies involved during the learning and acquisition process, the peers and surroundings of the participants, the elements of multiculturalism and multilingualism exhibited in the case of study. The studies show a different strategy was adopted in order to achieve the communicative competence as suggested by Canale and Swain (1980). The results shows that the learners achieved the communicative competence by recognizing the specific structure and features of the language (grammatical competence), understanding the historical background of the ethnicity belong to the language (sociolinguistic competence), practicing the languages ( strategic competence) and understanding the language coherent by listening (discourse competence)

Some results on nonlinear functional analysis including Schauder fixed point theorem are applied to establish the existence result for proposed equations. We improve and extend the literature by incorporated some well-known and commonly cited results as special cases in this topic. Further, we prove the existence of maximal and minimal solutions for these equations

GC-MS analysis of Adulterants in Captagon Tablet
Get PDFIn secret laboratories various synthetic or semi-synthetic amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) are produced and processed. Stimulants of the form of amphetamine (ATS) are the second most common illegal drugs used worldwide, following cannabis. ATS production has increased worldwide, particularly from the Middle East. Fenethylline (CaptagonTM), a derivative of amphetamine, is commonly marketed as a street drug. Objective: this research aimed at applying gas chromatography / mass spectrometry (GC / MS) for fenethylline profiling of confiscated samples from the Saudi market. Methodology: The study of GC / MS was conducted on a general-purpose column (30 mm 0.25 mm i.d) filled with 0.25 mm cross bond, 5% diphenyl dimethyl polysiloxane (Rtx-5MS). The mass was worked in the process of impacting the electron. Results and discussion: Analyzed samples showed positive results for amphetamine in concentrations ranging from 0.07 to 43.02 percent of the substance in 60 percent of the samples. Caffeine was also present in 60 per cent of the samples at levels between 0.61 and 60.31 per cent. In the MS of the other active compounds were recorded in different proportions. Lastly, the presence of other substances in fenethylline samples may contribute to intoxication
