Investigation on Iranian Translators’ Awareness of Semantic Prosody

    Get PDF
In recent years, with the advent of technology and increasing international communication, translation became more important than before especially translation of politics, great novels, books, and news .so researchers have to determine challenging issues in translating and communication process in order to have higher quality in translation and communication. One of these challenges is semantic prosody that first introduced by Sinclair (1987) as a special tendency of words to occur in special semantic prosody. This research is based on both qualitative with search analysis design and quantitative by drafting a questioner with 56 participants from the Islamic Azad University of Isfahan (khorasgan) branch. As a result, the charts show that despite the importance of knowing semantic prosody there is still a lack of knowledge in semantic prosody among Persian translators. There should be a special dictionary for demonstrating semantic prosody of words and in the translation training, there should be more attention on translation challenges

Developing a Model for Predicting Lung Cancer Using Variational Quantum-Classical Algorithm: A Survey

    Get PDF
There are real life problems that currently proved hard for classical computers (even the best of supercomputers) to solve-the so called computationally intractable problems. Computers and computing devices are limited, by virtue of the fact that they cannot perform certain complex problems. For example, modern cryptography assumes that it is impossible to factorize a large number as the complexity of solving this problem increases exponentially. Even the best supercomputers of today cannot sufficiently find the prime factors of a number with 700-1,000 digits. With quantum computing, however, Shor’s algorithm proved that in principle, a quantum computer can be used to break the security of conventional cryptosystems. Quantum computing also promises exponential improvements for many optimization problems. Lov Grover algorithm was also designed to search for an element in unstructured database. Effort is currently on to leverage quantum computing and quantum mechanical phenomena to tackle complex machine learning problems. Using machine learning algorithm to solve problems is common place. What is however new is using quantum machine learning algorithm to solve problems such as detecting, classifying and predicting disease such as lung cancer. In this work, we highlight the limitations of classical computers to solve certain problems and then propose a hybrid model called the variational quantum-classical algorithm to predict the possibility of a patient developing lung cancer given a set of features which are spelt out in the dataset. The dataset is initially pre-processed, and made to pass through a Parameterized Quantum Circuit (PQC) and then post-processed. Finally, the output of the post-processing phase is used for prediction of lung cancer

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of marketing mix elements on consumer buying behavior of supermarket consumers in Meerut city. Empirical evidence from 150 participants shopping at five supermarkets validates a theoretical model, indicating a significant positive relationship between marketing mix variables and consumer purchasing behavior. Factors or the marketing mix elements examined are product, price, shopping convenience, promotion, store atmosphere and personnel. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, comparing mean analysis  (i.e. one-way ANOVA) and other analysis (correlation and multiple linear regression)  Results reveal that personnel, promotion and price factors exerts greatest influence on  consumer buying decision, followed by shopping convenience, store atmosphere, and product  respectively. The finding of the study also shows that there is a significant difference between supermarkets product consumers who belongs to different age group, educational background and Income level with regard to product, shopping convenience, promotion, price and store atmosphere and personnel. These findings contribute to the literature relating to retail marketing and have marketing implications for bringing traffic into supermarkets and increasing sales. Supermarkets should set up a comfortable buying  atmosphere, drafting more influencing and informative promotion, give up to date training to  their employees, should consider level of competition, access to transportation, availability  of parking, easy accessibility and long opening hours while making store location decision,  should maintain the right pricing decision and carrying deep assortment of products lead  them to become super specialist

Linguistic Imperialism: Viability of the Use of Native -Like Accent among English Language Learners

    Get PDF
This paper argues that English language should be used basically as a tool of communication, not as a tool of imperialism. There is no necessity for English language learners to speak in a native-like accent. Instead of spending much time, money and efforts on learning and emulating the different native speaker accents of English, English language learners should direct their efforts on learning what is important to develop their English language skills. The study devalues the importance of emulation of native accents of English. It uses the argumentative method to prove the argumentation logically. It illustrates that English language has become an international language and not a property of native speakers and it is not important to attach it with native speakers anymore. The study also discusses how that will help to avoid any hegemonic impact on the learners' culture and native language

Exploration of Social Attitudes and Summarization of Film Reviews

    Get PDF
The goal of this study was to identify the specific characteristics of internet reviews that made them useful. An online movie review site, Rotten Tomatoes, was used to gather online movie reviews. The online impact factor review methodology developed in this research makes use of data mining methods. A study found that article quality influences users' views of the effectiveness of interventions. When a reviewer has a happy mood, a strong emotional predisposition, and a high degree of review reliability, their material is more effective. Negative emotions, on the other hand, are less beneficial and weaker. Emotionally charged assessments are shown to have a greater number of reviews and tend to be more effective. The results of this study, which looked at how people evaluate online reviews, could help come up with new ways to predict economic success

Applying data mining steps to explore different small RNAs from buffalo milk transcriptome

    Get PDF
This study is a first attempt to find different types of RNA in lactating buffalo's milk somatic cells. The molecular factors that regulate lactation need to be identified and understood in order to help milk production. By using data mining techniques, patterns and information hidden within a dataset can be identified. In order to detect the RNA, data of 12 samples of buffalo milk somatic cells were analyzed. For extraction of diverse RNAs COMPSRA (COMprehensive Platform for Small RNA Analysis) pipeline was used. We were able to identify several miRNAs, piRNAs, snRNAs, snoRNAs, circRNAs and tRNAs in buffalo milk somatic cells. circRNAs ranked highest among all the samples in our dataset, followed by piRNAs and then miRNAs. Understanding the RNA regulators of lactation will improve and facilitate management of buffalo milk production. Furthermore, our study contributes towards a complete annotation of the buffalo genome

The Quality of Online English Learning during Covid-19 pandemic: A Study on English Undergraduate Students in A Conflict Zone

    Get PDF
This study attempts to investigate the quality of online English learning from the perceptions of the undergraduate ESL students during the lock downs due to Covid-19 pandemic in the conflict zone, Kashmir, India. It tries to examine three issues related to the quality dimensions of e-learning. Based on judgmental sampling technique, the sample responds to a five-likert survey comprising 18 questions after being taught via online mode for 3 months, followed by a structured-interview with a part of the sample selected randomly. Findings indicate that the e-learners have expressed diverse opinions with regard to course objectives matching with learning needs, effectiveness of online teaching methods and efficiency of online assessment. Findings reveal that majority of the students may not be able to identify their learning needs or decide about the quality of e-assessment system while a great number of the students perceive online teaching methods as less effective. It can be concluded that students are not pleased with the current mode of e-learning unless it goes under strict discipline and better approach and previous training. E-learning cannot be an alternative to formal education in a conflict zone unless intensive efforts and regular evaluation are made keeping in mind the students’ learning needs and feedback in relation to all dimensions of quality of e-learning.                                                                                                                                &nbsp

Prospective Media Translators in Audio-Visual Training: Towards a Critical Discourse Analysis of Gender-Bias in Subtitling

    Get PDF
This article dwells on the significance of translation training in gender-related issues. It focuses on raising the question of gender bias in audio-visual translation (AVT). The latter is posited to maintain the same patriarchal visions found in language use as in culture. To this end, the classroom is viewed as the perfect space where prospective translators are engaged in questioning how gender is part and parcel of the source texts as multi-dimensional and ‘polisemiotic’ in nature, and how lexical and semantic choices are significantly powerful to reveal underlying ideologies, subjectivities, attitudes and mind-sets. This research is corpus-based. It was carried out with my under-graduate students studying the module of ‘Translation 2.’ Multi-modal text samples containing problematic gender issues were purposefully selected to bring forth the reactions that I sought to make. By adopting critical discourse analysis (CDA) with its three dimensional framework: the descriptive, interpretive and explanatory, in a pedagogically collaborative learning environment, the subtitled texts with the classroom activities and the group discussions were meant to measure how training in AVT translation can practically sensitize future translators to the salience of gender-bias in mainstream media hence triggering in them the need for change. Through all the covered phases of the classroom training, gender is duly addressed to have an all-encompassing approach to subtitling in English, French and Arabic. The main goal is to gauge the consistency of a male-dominated discourse that permeates all media channels. It is geared towards helping trainees as individuals, rather than professionals, to overcome the challenges posed by all the patriarchal ideologies from one language to another. &nbsp

The spread of Misinformation on social media: An insightful countermeasure to restrict

    Get PDF
The term misinformation on social media has got significant attention in public sermons over the last few decades. This research article explores the growing tendency of misinformation on social media, how it influences people and prescribes insightful measures to counter the spreading of misinformation on social media. Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was employed on the three databases; Google Scholar; Scopus, Web of Science, following keywords; "misinformation", "disinformation", and "social media". A total of 34 articles were finally found suitable for the study. This study confirmed that self-motive and election campaigns are the major causes of misinformation on social media. This study manifested that machines can detect fake news to some extent but cannot be relied upon solely. Human intervention is equally important in identifying misinformation. Moreover, an efficient conceptual model has been proposed to counter the misinformation spread on social medi

INDIA’S BILATERAL TRADE WITH CHINA- EMPIRICAL STUDY BASED ON TRADE INTENSITY INDEX & TRADE RECIPROCITY INDEX

    Get PDF
This paper is an attempt to examine and compare the bilateral relationship between India and China. It analyses the trends in trade and the major composition of commodities being traded between India and China during the period (2008-2017). Annual Growth Rate (AGR), Combined Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), Trade Intensity Index (TII), and Trade Reciprocity Index (TRI) have been used in order to analyse the bilateral trade between India and China. The present study reveals that India imports 3 to 4 times more than it exports to China whereas overall trade between India and China also increased over the years specially in the area of import as compare to India’s total trade to the world. However, the top ten commodities that have been dominating in India’s trade with China are: Ores, Cotton, Copper and articles, Organic chemicals, Electrical machinery & equipment, nuclear reactors, etc. Trade Intensity Index reveals there is serious unbalanced trade relationship between India and China from India’s point of view and India need to take productive steps for minimising unbalanced trade balance. Whereas, TRI index also reveals that India is stepping towards unbalanced trade with China as the import indices keep on increasing in comparison to export indices and therefore, balance of trade results unfavourable which requires India to rethink and revamp its export and import policy
