Turmbau zu Babbeln…
This article presents a general approach to language varieties from a non-native perspective. The following ideas were taken into consideration: Is research on dialects from a non-native point of view possible? What methods are recommended? Are dialects present in modern media and literature? If so, what does it mean for a translator? What is the role of mass media in the educational process of language acquisition? What do notions like: ‘society’, ‘nation’, and ‘integration’ have in common with language? These and other questions about language varieties and dialects have been the subject of consideration of a student dialect group established in 2009 at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The first results are partly reviewed in the article. The students want to deal further with the linguistic phenomena in terms of national identity and integration

Jakościowa i ilościowa analiza słownictwa oraz jednostek quasi- i nieleksykalnych wypowiedzi w dialogach zadaniowych „origami”
In this text, an analysis of the lexical material obtained from the recordings of Polish task-oriented dialogues is presented. Some findings regarding quasi- and non-lexical units are also mentioned. The dialogue task involved the reconstruction of a figure made of paper. It was carried out in two settings: Mutual visibility and limited visibility. The analyses of the vocabulary are focused on finding its specific features and the differences between the structures of the vocabularies of instruction givers and instruction followers in the two settings. Frequency lists as well as most frequent bigrams extracted from the material are discussed in terms of their relatedness to the settings, the roles of the speakers and some other factors. Creating and Weighting Hunspell Dictionariesas Finite-State Automata
Therearenumerousformatsforwritingspell-checkersforopen-source systems and there are many lexical descriptions for natural languages written in these formats. In this paper, we demonstrate a method for converting Hunspell and related spell-checking lexicons into finite-state automata. We also present a simple way to apply unigram corpus training in order to improve the spellcheckingsuggestionmechanismusingweightedfinite-statetechnology.Whatwe propose is a generic and efficient language-independent framework of weighted finite-stateautomataforspell checkingintypicalopen-sourcesoftware,e.g.Mozilla Firefox, OpenOffice and the Gnome desktop

Słownik uniwersytecki niemiecko-polski jako wsparcie mobilności studentów
This article presents the results obtained by translating UNILEX Universitätswörterbuch für in- und ausländische Studierende by Prof. Burkhard Schaeder und Aleka Rapti from German into Polish by the Student Translator Association at the Institute of Applied Linguistics in Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In the period of growing mobility among polish students who nowadays have great opportunities to study abroad, one of the most significant aspects of the student exchange is the ability to speak foreign languages. There are plenty of dictionaries, glossaries or guides available that can be helpful in helping students to get used to the education system in foreign universities, but they miss out important facts or not up-todate in most cases. Because of this fact the members of the Student Translator Association have come to the conclusion that translating the Unilex from German into Polish could become an advantage for polish students studying in Germany for a certain period of time.
