Bild im Wörterbuch. Zu visuellen Darstellungsformen in einem Lernerwörterbuch. Illustrations in a dictionary. Visual forms of entry presentation in a learner‘s dictionary
In this article we will subject visual forms of entry presentation found in monolingual learner\u27s dictionaries to critical contrastive analysis. The characteristics of dictionaries under discussion, especially those addressed to foreign users, make them an essential language learning aid. The aim of the analysis is to identify which entries are effectively illustrated to constitute an effectual support of a verbal definition, and how it is achieved. The results of the analysis will indicate the possibilities and limits of illustrating concepts in dictionaries.

Hindernis oder Brücke? Der Beitrag der Angewandten Linguistik zur Erforschung des Lehrens und Lernens von Fremdsprachen. Obstacle or bridge? The contribution of Applied Linguistics to the study of the teaching and learning of foreign languages
There is no doubt that Applied Linguistics has firmly established itself as an independent scientific field. However, there are thematic overlaps in some areas concerning other disciplines. Language Teaching Research is a prime example of how linguistic features can be applied in an instructional context. In a first step, the author investigates both the similarities and differences of Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching Research, before dealing with related topics such as second language acquisition, multilingual didactics, mediation, competences, and sensitivity regarding (foreign) language use. Finally, a response is formulated to the question of whether the field of Applied Linguistics functions as a bridge or an obstacle
Die Prinzipien der Tertiärsprachendidaktik und ihre Widerspiegelung in den ausgewählten DaF-Lehrwerken für den Anfängerunterricht. The principles of the tertiary language teaching and their reflection in the selected GFL textbooks for beginners
English is taught in almost all European countries as the first foreign language. German (similar to French) comes only to the rank of the second or even the third foreign language. This situation resulted in the introducing and in the rapid development of the tertiary language teaching and learning, whose main principles are inter alia: raising student’s awareness, reading comprehension as the basis of foreign language learning and the striving for the facilitating of the learning process. The article discusses whether and to what extent the above-mentioned principles are reflected in the selected GFL textbooks for beginners

Symbol in translation
The subject for reflection in this paper is the translational challenge posed by the rendering of linguistic representations of national stereotypes, based on the example of the flower Edelweiss from the song Edelweiss which became a word-symbol for the inhabitants of the U.S.A. The translation of this stereotype created in the U.S.A., where the symbol of Edelweiss gained an added meaning, means that the translator of the English-German language pair is forced to explain the exo-cultural associations to those receivers who are enculturated in the country of this symbol’s origin.
ICC assessment – experiences and perspectives.
The paper presents theoretical considerations on the role of dialogue in ICC development and assessment and the model for ICC assessment as a practical application. It is argued here that the application of the idea of dialogue in a Bakhtinian sense may constitute a theoretical framework for ICC assessment since this kind of dialogue involves the presentation of a variety of opinions or ideas. The model for ICC assessment, as it was developed for the purpose of the author’s unpublished PhD dissertation, is presented in this paper. The model includes various types of tests that can be incorporated into ICC evaluation. The final part of the discussion attempts at showing the points of convergence between DA approach and the dialogic approach to ICC assessment
