Adolescent learner perceptions of foreign language assessment: Critical incident analysis
This article reports on a study that aimed to explore adolescent learner perceptions of language assessment experiences and their beliefs about what makes a useful, valuable and highquality assessment. The data was collected by means of the critical incident technique (CIT) in which 25 lower secondary learners (aged 14–16) were asked to recall both positive and negative instances of assessment they had experienced in the course of their language education. The results reveal that the participants held generally positive views of language assessment and paid attention to such aspects of assessment as reliability, appreciation and authenticity. On the other hand, the importance of grades was prioritised over the learning value of assessment, which is characteristic of performance-oriented assessment environment

Dimension discursive de la construction et de la diffusion des savoirs sur la formation des enseignants de LE au sein de la communauté glottodidactique polonaise
The paper concerns the discursive dimension of the construction and the circulation of knowledge connected with the issue of foreign language teacher education. A starting point for the discussion is the assumption according to which glottodidactics as a science is still perceived in a highly heterogenic way by members of the Polish glottodidactic community. Not only is the subject of glottodidactics so complex and interdisciplinary that the multitude of its possible interpretations does not allow us to decide on one common epistemological paradigm, but glottodidactic discourse is also very heterogeneous. The author of this article presents the conclusions from a metaglottodidactic analysis of articles covering the subject of foreign language teacher training which were published in Neofilolog in 1990–2010, and answers the question of whether, and with what kind of discourse configurations do Polish glottodidacticians theoretically locate their propositions for educating teachers presented in their publications. The paper concerns the discursive dimension of the construction and the circulation of knowledge connected with the issue of foreign language teacher education. Reality TV shows and empathy in the EFL classroom
The aim of this study is to explore the extent to which reality TV shows, such as the X Factor, can be effective and emotionally engaging resources in the EFL classroom, particularly for teenagers. Such TV formats, especially the sections in which contestants narrate their personal experiences, have the potential to engage viewers in a powerfully emotional way. Similarly, when used as teaching resources, these first-person discourses are capable of challenging students\u27 empathy very directly, triggering emotionally charged responses to the expressions of others. Thus, under examination here will be the potential value in language teaching and learning of reality TV talent shows and the empathy they produce in students
„Neugier beflügelt unsere Wahrnehmung“ – eine effektive Lernmethode im Fremdsprachenunterricht
As in any human action, motivation is playing a key role in learning foreign languages. There are different types of motivation – one of them is curiosity. Curiosity is one of the strongest motivators, since it is based in the human character. Psychologists call curiosity the core of motivation. In my paper I will address a new learning technique, which consists of two didactic concepts at the same time: Learning by teaching and subject orientated learning. Subject orientated learning means the combination of a specific content to be learnt and a given person. As in any human action, motivation is playing a key role in learning foreign languages. Quality Assurance in Teacher Education
Quality in general education has been defined through aims, key qualifications, organisational standards, didactic requirements, but also learning outcomes which depend on students’ proficiency in the language of schooling and their cognitive academic skills. New challenges bring about changes in responsibilities of schools and teachers and have a strong impact on approachesto quality assurance in teacher education, a complex process not devoid of controversies, the most important of which will be identified in the present text. Implications for the curricular content of pre- and in-service language teacher education will also be sought.Quality in general education has been defined through aims, key qualifications, organisationalstandards, didactic requirements, but also learning outcomes which depend on students’proficiency in the language of schooling and their cognitive academic skills.
