Utlendinger i Norge. Norsk innvandringpolitikk, grunner til og følger av migrasjonen (2008)

    Get PDF
The aim of the article is to describe the present situation regarding immigrants in Norway. Most of the data that I am using withrespect to this matter comes from Internet resources, as most of the statistics are available online only. The moment that can be regarded as crucial for immigrant history in Norwayis the late 60ties of the 20th century. Guest workers from Pakistan came to the country invited by the Norwegian government. In 1975 the so-called ‘innvandringsstop’ (immigration-stop) regulation was introduced to prevent flooding the country with incoming foreigners. The statistics show that no such significant migration was observed again until 2007–2008 when Polish workers began to come to Norway in large groups. Presently, the largest immigrant groups in Norway are Poles, Pakistani, Germans and Iraqi. There are four important reasons for migration: economic, family, political(refugees) and educational. Work and family are definitely the most commonones. The law concerning immigration was established in 1988 and it is called‘Utlendingsforskriften’. Moreover, the Norwegian immigration policy respectsall the laws and regulations in force in all the EU countries and that apply to the members of the United Nations organization. Nowadays, the Norwegian government is working on a new immigration law that is planned to be introduced in 2010

Bevægelsesverber i polsk og dansk og ACCOMPLISHMENT-dilemmaet

The article departs from Smith\u27s (1997) claim that verb constellations constituted by a countable nominal, a verb of motion and a directional PP are ACCOMPLISHMENT constellations in line with \u27The child built a house\u27 or \u27He wrote a novel\u27. A series of morphological and syntactic tests are applied to perfective and imperfective ACCOMPLISHMENTS of directed motion in Polish and Danish (biec / at løbe, iść / at gå, lecieć / at flyve og jechać / at køre + directional adverbials). This illustrates that the verb constellations of interest do not always show the features of canonical ACCOMPLISHMENTS that do not refer to motion as such

    Orddannelsesstrukturen af danske kentaurnominaler

The present paper reviews different approaches to a type of morphological constructions called kentaurer in Danish. These morphological formations, also referred to as kentaurnominaler or gerundiumformer are productive in the language. The paper offers a morphological classification of these constructions

    Maria Hellebergs \u27Fremmede naboer\u27 i den danske Polen-diskurs

    Get PDF
The aim of the article is to place Maria Helleberg’s book Fremmede naboer (1992) in a broader cultural and literary context and to define its position in the Danish discourse on Poland. The author of the article points out some elements used for creating an image of Poland and confronts the image with the canonical representation of Poland from Georg Brandes’ text Indtryk fra Polen (1888). The result of the comparison mentioned above shows a certain conservatism in the way Poland is presented in Danish literary discourse. The conclusion is supported with references to other texts dealing with Polish matters from the period from 1888 to 2002

Jarl Sigvaldi and the battle of Svoldr in saga tradition

    Get PDF
The battle of Svoldr is one of the most outstanding momentsin saga tradition, which preserves memory about Viking AgeScandinavia. The fame of the battle was strictly connected with particularpersonas involved in the conflict, among them the Norwegian kingÓláfr Tryggvason played the most significant role. The battle itself and itscircumstances proved that Óláfr was a great, warlike, valiant and at thesame time deeply Christian to do monarch, whose death was compared to martyrdom. The saga authors, thoroughly describing all events connected with the battle of Svoldr, included also Sigvaldi, the jarl of Jomsborg, in their narratives. According to most accounts, the jarl was member of coalition, Óláfr Tryggvason’s enemies, who planned to trap the Norwegian king, depriving him of life and power. Sigvaldi’s role was to pretend Óláfr’s friend and ally and lead him from Vindland, where he stayed, directly into trap. The saga authors created their narratives about Sigvaldi and his role in the events ofthe year 1000, quoting particular skaldic stanzas, which were used to corroborate their prose accounts. The analysis of these verses leads to conclusion that the saga authors felt completely free in using them, differently and very often mistakenly understanding their content. Particular stanzas, quoted in the saga narratives, analysed once more, seem in fact to refer to completely different persons and/or events, having nothing in common with either Sigvaldi or Óláfr Tryggvason’s last battle

Varmt hjerte og kaldt blod. En kontrastiv analyse av uttrykk for følelser basert på indre organer og kroppsvæsker i polsk og norsk

The following paper investigates the nature of idiomatic expressions for emotions and analyses them in Polish and Norwegian. Emotions are a phenomenon universal for all human beings, yet their perception and expression differs across cultures. It seems to be a tendency in all languages to ‘somatize’ emotions, that is to place them in the human body, the nearest reference point. However, explaining this tendency by physiology is not always plausible as shown in the conducted study on expressions using internal organs and bodily liquids in Polish and Norwegian. Expressions that bear most similarity between languages coming from the same culture circle are not those motivated by physiology, but by culture, as for example those originating from Hippocratic humoral doctrine. Metaphorical mechanisms, claimed by some linguists to be universal, for example the so called container metaphor, are also to be found in the analyzed material. It has been proven that culture can influence the construction and perception of emotions. The language of emotions, which by default is a part of culture, calls therefore for more attention from researchers in all fields dealing with this topic

Tappra martyrer och katolska bråkmakare. Om några historiskt betingade traditioner i den svenska bilden av Polen

    Get PDF
The article puts together and describes four main traditions of the Swedish perception of the Polish, which have been formed through the centuries by the conflicts and encounters, as well as similarities and differences in the development of societies in these two countries. The historically qualified notions about the Polish as courageous warriors, innocent martyrs, anarchy rioters and catholic fanatics reappear also in Swedish press articles that were published after 1989, sometimes gaining a new meaning. These notions should be interpreted in the background of national narratives of the Swedes since images of the others are being often used while defining one’s own group and consequently they shouldbe seen as a substantial constituent of national identity

Fravær som et kompositionsprincip i Helle Helles novellesamling Rester (1996)

The paper analyses the short story collection titled Remnants written by the notable Danish author, Helle Helle. This work is characteristic of the contemporary minimalist movement, and is one of the most significant works of the 1990’s in Danish literature. The main point of the paper is the notion of absence and loss, which is treated as the work’s dominating principle. The paper attempts to prove that this governing principle of “absence and loss” both applies to the collection’s plot and its composition. Accordingly, several examples from the text are included to demonstrate the principle’s relevance
