Die Protestantische Ethik und der Geist des Kapitalismus. Werk-Wirkung-Kritik
The following paper deals with „the Protestant Ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism (PE) which is one of the most famous books of the sociologist and cultural historian Max Weber. The main theses will be analyzed, since the work is of unchanged relevance. To understand Weber‘s view, the PE will be related to its epistemological and methodical program. In addition, the focus will be on the question of the link between individual action and social structure. Therefore, the theory of Berger/Luckmann about the social construction of reality will be part of the paper to get a better understanding of those interdependent aspects. Finally, a critical view about the PE and its reception in contemporary cultural theories will be given

Rechtliche Grundlegungen der Arbeitsmigration nach Deutschland und Österreich in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts
Dieser Essay beschäftigt sich mit den gesetzlichen Grundlagen der vor gut 50 Jahren einsetzenden Arbeitsmigration in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland sowie nach Österreich. Drei zentrale Leitfragen bilden das Gerüst der Untersuchung: Zu Beginn wird geklärt, wer wann welche rechtlichen Grundlagen schuf. In diesem ersten Schritt wird versucht, neben den Inhalten auch die hinter den Rechtsetzungen stehenden Intentionen und Akteure nachzuzeichnen. Daran anknüpfend wird Ausschau nach historischen Kontinuitäten gehalten, die einen Ansatzpunkt für eine postkoloniale Betrachtungsweise – hier verstanden als herrschaftskritische Rahmung – liefern könnten. Im abschließenden dritten Schritt wird die Diskrepanz zwischen den Rechtsnormen und ihrer Wirklichkeit ausgeleuchtet, um neben dem normativ-ideologischen Blick das Gespür für die wirtschaftspolitischen Triebfedern und die Lebensrealität dieses Zeitgeschehens zu schärfen

The Suez crisis 1956 The following paper deals with the Suez crisis 1956. It will elaborate on the political situation and developements in the middle east, especially in egypt, which led to a military confrontation between the European colonial powers Great Britain and France together with the new State Israel and Egypt under the leadership of the panarabic anticolonialist Gamal Abdel Nasser. Furthermore the procedures of the military and the diplomatic contention will be adumbrated, as well as the consequences. Also the acting of the two superpowers United States and the Sowjetunion and their influence on the Suez conflict will be shown.

The following pro-seminar-paper deals with the social and cultural tendencies of the sixties. It is less focused on international occurrences than on the very specific characteristics of Austria. In no other country social changes were so much based on cultural disruptions and tendencies which found their unique expression in the Viennese Actionism. The Viennese Actionism was Austria‘s individual contribution to the worldwide revolution of 1968. In the 18th century the Viennese Court consisted of a collection of formalized actions. Neither diplomatic services nor private much less public ceremonies were free of standardization. Constable Johann Josef Khevenhüller-Metsch (1706–1776) wrote a diary which gives an insight into this complex machinery of the baroque court ceremonial. Based on this diary the following seminar-paper discusses the importance of religious acts and the culinary delights that were inseparable from those in the Austrian monarchy

This essay is about J. G. Droysen‘s position about the point of view of historians. It is based on R. Hübner‘s reconstruction of Droysen‘s lecture „Enzyklopädie und Methodologie der Geschichte“. The starting point is a wellknown attack of Droysen on W. Wachsmuth‘s definition of objectivity. It reveals the total contradictions between Droysen‘s and Wachsmuth‘s concepts of the historian\u27s point of view. These concepts as well as their contradictions are the subjects of the following analysis
