Ensuring the Safety of Hydraulic Structures in Central Asia: A Comparative Perspective
This study applies comparative legal and descriptive-analytical methods to analyse 30 interstate treaties (1992-2017), national legislation, and regulatory practice in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The results demonstrate that although some neighbouring nations (Afghanistan and Tajikistan) have not ratified the conventions, they have been incorporated into their national laws. This hampers the effectiveness of emergency preparedness and risk prevention measures. Through the “Regional Hydrosecurity Concept,” which harmonises state competencies with international water law norms, this study offers a novel theoretical framework for hydrosecurity in Central Asia. Furthermore, the report proposes a “Model Law on the Safety of Hydraulic Structures” to standardise emergency response protocols, hazard classifications, and legal nomenclature at the regional level. These two approaches work together to produce a logical legal framework that addresses current sectoral issues. In particular, Uzbekistan\u27s experience is of significant importance in this regard, as outdated hydraulic infrastructure further undermines the effectiveness of hydrosecurity governance. The study’s original scientific contribution lies in formulating a “Regional Hydrosecurity Concept” that harmonises state competences, international water law standards, and basin-level governance. The practical significance of the study lies in strengthening legal coherence and regional cooperation, while contributing to the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation)
The psychosocial factors associated with work stress among inpatient psychiatric nurses at RSJD Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Semarang: A cross-sectional study
Introduction: Nurses in psychiatric inpatient wards must remain highly alert because patient behavior can be unpredictable and potentially risky. Despite the demanding work environment, research on psychosocial factors associated with work stress among psychiatric nurses remains limited in Southeast Asia and other low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationships among mental workload, colleague support, and work shifts with work stress among female nurses working in the psychiatric inpatient ward at RSJD Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Semarang. Methods: This quantitative analytic study used a cross-sectional study design. The population consisted of 111 female psychiatric inpatient nurses, and 60 respondents were selected through proportional sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using chi-square tests. Results: Of the respondents, 38.3% experienced mild work stress, 51.7% reported low coworker support, and 38.4% had low mental workload. Nurses who frequently worked evening or night shifts reported a higher proportion of work stress than those on regular shifts. Significant associations were found between mental workload (p=0.008), coworker support (p=0.002), and shift work (p=0.043) and work stress. Conclusion: Work stress among psychiatric nurses is shaped by workload, peer support, and shift patterns, underscoring the need for a comprehensive psychosocial approach. Beyond individual coping strategies, such as maintaining adequate rest, organizational measures are essential to reduce work stress and enhance the quality of psychiatric nursing services. These measures include optimizing shift schedules, strengthening peer support, and ensuring adequate staffing

Internalizing spiritual values to cultivate student character: a phenomenological study in islamic elementary education
Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah faces significant challenges in the digital era, where an overemphasis on cognitive aspects of learning may undermine the development of students\u27 religious character. This study aims to analyze strategies for integrating spiritual values and their relevance in strengthening the religious character of students at MI Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study design, data were collected through participatory observations and in-depth interviews with subject teachers. The data were subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis, involving transcription, coding, theme grouping, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that the integration of spiritual values is systematically implemented through the tarbiyah bil \u27adah approach, which is manifested in daily worship practices, literacy programs, Quran memorization activities, and teacher role modeling during the learning process. This integration is further reinforced by the application of a dual curriculum and a humanistic approach that fosters the internalization of spiritual values, aligning with students\u27 cognitive and psychosocial development stages. In conclusion, the contextual and sustainable integration of spiritual values is instrumental in reinforcing students\u27 religious character and serves as an effective strategy in addressing the educational challenges of the digital age
Teachers’ perceptions of waste banks and their role in enhancing environmental quality within an ESD framework
Background: Waste banks can serve as a practical strategy for implementing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in school-based environmental education. However, the effectiveness of their implementation is strongly influenced by teachers’ perceptions of how ESD principles can be integrated into learning activities. Objectives: This study examined teachers’ perceptions of the role of waste banks in improving environmental quality within the ESD framework. Methods: This study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative data were collected using a perception test instrument adapted from the New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) to reflect waste bank content across each indicator. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews with teachers. The population consisted of elementary, junior high, and high school teachers in Serang City. A total of 76 teachers were selected through purposive sampling, focusing on teachers in Cipare District, Serang City, due to the active management of waste banks in the area. Results: The quantitative findings showed that teachers demonstrated highly positive perceptions, with an average score of 90% across seven indicators: anti-anthropocentrism, fragility of nature’s balance, possibility of ecocrisis, rejection of exemptionalism, limits to growth, new society planning, and human technological capability. These findings were supported by interview data, which revealed that waste banks have primarily been implemented as part of environmental learning in schools. However, their implementation has not been explicitly designed based on ESD principles, and the integration of ESD values and dimensions into learning activities remains insufficiently systematic and clearly articulated. Conclusion: Teachers generally perceive waste banks as having strong potential to improve environmental quality and support environmental learning in schools. Nevertheless, their educational implementation has not yet fully reflected ESD principles in a structured and explicit manner. Therefore, stronger curricular integration, teacher capacity building, and more systematic incorporation of ESD values are needed to optimize the role of waste banks in fostering sustainable environmental educatio
The effect of scaffolding inquiry-based STEM on problem-solving skills and creativity of prospective biology teacher students
Background: Inquiry-based Biology learning requires adequate pedagogical support to foster the development of problem-solving skills and creativity among pre-service teachers. However, in the absence of structured guidance, students often experience difficulties in carrying out scientific inquiry processes. Integrating scaffolding within a STEM framework offers a promising approach to support more systematic and interdisciplinary learning. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the implementation of Scaffolding Inquiry-Based STEM and its association with students’ problem-solving skills and creativity in a Microbiology course. Methods: A mixed-methods approach with an embedded design was employed. The quantitative component used a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 15 students (n = 15), while qualitative data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation to enrich the interpretation of the findings. Results: The results indicate improvements in problem-solving skills, particularly in problem identification, strategy application, reasoning, and evaluation. In addition, students’ creativity showed enhancement across multiple dimensions, including curiosity, fluency, originality, flexibility, elaboration, and risk-taking. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Scaffolding Inquiry-Based STEM is associated with the development of key 21st-century competencies among pre-service biology teachers. However, the absence of a control group limits the extent to which causal inferences can be drawn. Despite this limitation, the approach demonstrates potential for fostering more structured and meaningful Biology learning in higher education contexts
