    Prevalence of Fear of Falling and Its Association with Frailty Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults in Northern Thailand

    Frailty in the elderly population is a known risk factor for common geriatric syndromes, contributing significantly to adverse health outcomes. Therefore, we examined the relationship between prevalence of fear of falling and frailty among older adults. A cross-sectional design was employed, and data were collected through in-person interviews conducted between April and May 2024. Participants were selected through simple random sampling from a total of 409 individuals aged 60 years or older, who were included in the analysis.  The fear of falling (FOF) was evaluated using the Short Falls Efficacy Scale International (Short FES-I). Frailty was evaluated using the Thai version of the Simple Frailty Questionnaire (T-FRAIL). The mean age was 69.5 years, and 58.7% were female. The prevalence rates were 47.4% for non-frailty, 39.1% for pre-frailty, and 13.4% for frailty among older adults. Multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that pre-frail adults had significantly higher odds of high FOF (OR: 5.27; 95% CI: 3.16-8.80, p-value < 0.001), whereas frail adults had significantly higher odds of moderate FOF (OR: 4.37; 95% CI: 1.55-12.32, p-value = 0.005) and high FOF (OR: 17.36; 95% CI: 6.79-44.39, p-value < 0.001) compared to a reference group of non-frail participants.     Health Education to Improve Maternal Awareness on Soy-Based Infant Formula for Individuals with Cow’s Milk Allergy in Indonesia

     Background: Cow’s milk allergy is relatively common among Indonesian infantswho are not exclusively breastfed. Despite extensive hydrolyzed formula and aminoacid-based formula are the recommended nutrition for infants with moderate-tosevere illness, not all parents could provide those specialized formulas, presumablydue to the high cost, low availability and poor palatability. In that case, soy-basedinfant formula could be an alternative nutrition. However, it was unknown whetherIndonesian mothers were aware on that alternative nutrition. Objective: We therefore assessed the knowledge levels of mothers who participated in an online platform of PrimaKu on the usefulness of soy-based infant formula to support growthand development of children with cow’s milk allergy. Methods: The study subjectsappeared to have sufficient levels of knowledge on the usefulness of soy-based infant formula for children with cow’s milk allergy. Results: In addition, by increasing their knowledge on iron and fiber fortification in soy-based infant formula, e.g.,through regular academic presentations, mothers could be more selective in choosing alternative nutrition for children with cow’s milk allergy. Conclusion: Our studysuggested that Indonesian mothers who were active in the online platform of Primaku had sufficient levels of knowledge on the usefulness of soy-based protein formanaging children with cow’s milk allergy.&nbsp

Renewable energy conversion, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal, offers great potential as an alternative source of clean and renewable energy. This is literature review studdy. This article explores the important role of renewable energy conversion in addressing the global energy crisis and mitigating climate change. By analyzing the technology, policies, economic, social, and environmental aspects related to renewable energy conversion, this article highlights environmentally friendly solutions that can support a sustainable energy transition and ensure future energy security. Furthermore, this article discusses the challenges and opportunities in integrating renewable energy into the energy system, as well as the importance of public participation and co-ownership models in renewable energy projects

    Analyzing Misconceptions Using Four-tier Test on the Topic of Vibration: A Survey of Pre-service Science Teachers

    Vibration is one of the essential topics in science education. Pre-service science teachers still often experience difficulties in learning this topic. There are several previous studies related to misconceptions on the topic of vibration. However, research on misconceptions in pre-service science teachers is still limited. This study aimed to analyze pre-service science teachers\u27 misconceptions on the topic of vibration. This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The research instruments include a four-tier test and interviews. The participants in this study consist of 96 pre-service science teachers from a university in Bandung, Indonesia. The results of the analysis showed that pre-service science teachers who had Scientific Knowledge were 31.1%, lack of knowledge 26.9%, misconception 8.0%, false positive 1.8%, and false negative 2.2%. The most common misconception found relates to the relationship between frequency and mass. The perception of pre-service science teachers regarding the four-tier test questions is very easy 0%, easy 6.7%, neutral 36.7%, difficult 53.3%, and very difficult 3.3%. The findings show that many pre-service science teachers still have misconceptions about the topic of vibration so lecturers should strengthen the concepts of Fundamental Physics first before students take advanced physics courses

    Design and Validation of Doodly-Based Physics Teaching Materials to Enhance Teachers’ Digital Competencies

    In the rapidly advancing digital era, the integration of technology in education has become essential for enhancing the learning experience. One promising tool in this regard is animation software like Doodly, which can significantly elevate the quality of physics teaching. This research seeks to develop teaching materials for physics that leverage Doodly’s animation capabilities, aiming not only to bolster teachers’ digital skills but also to increase student engagement in the learning process. The methodology employed in this study involves a descriptive approach, with design validation conducted by experts in physics, multimedia learning, and educational technology. Expert validation sheets and revision guides were used as instruments, and the data were analyzed using Aiken’s V formula to assess the validity of the materials developed. The findings suggest that the Doodly-based physics teaching materials are of excellent quality, demonstrating high validity scores in terms of presentation feasibility (0.89), content feasibility (0.86), and language use (0.89). The animation-based approach in these materials has proven effective in improving students’ comprehension of challenging concepts while enriching their learning experience. However, the research also points out that certain aspects, such as visual design and video duration, could still benefit from further refinement. Ultimately, the study confirms that Doodly-based teaching resources are highly effective in enhancing both teachers’ digital competencies and student engagement, contributing significantly to the development of more dynamic, technology-driven physics education

    Development of STEM-Based E-Modules Integrated with Ethnoscience to Improve Creative Thinking Skills in Biotechnology Materials for Grade X Students

    Creative thinking skills are part of the 21st century skills that need to be mastered and developed. Therefore, innovative teaching materials are needed that can help develop creative thinking skills. This development research aims to produce teaching materials in the form of STEM-based e-modules integrated with ethnoscience that are feasible, practical, and effective for students and teachers. The instruments used are needs analysis in the form of teacher interview guidelines and teacher and student needs questionnaires, material and media expert validation sheets, and practicality sheets. Then the effectiveness sheet in the form of pretest and post-test sheets. Based on the results of data analysis, media validation scored 99.2%, material validation results scored 88.23%, teacher response questionnaire results scored 98%, and student response questionnaire results scored 93.26%. The effectiveness assessment resulted in an average N-Gain score of 0.83 which is included in the highly criteria. Therefore, it can be concluded that this ethnoscience-integrated STEM-based e-module is feasible, practical, effective, and can facilitate the development of students’ creative thinking skills

    Penanaman Karakter Disiplin melalui Kegiatan Ekstrakurikuler Paskibra (Pasukan Pengibar Bendera) di SMA Negeri 3 Purwakarta

    Penanaman nilai karakter disiplin sangat penting diberikan pada diri siswa agar membentuk perilaku positif sehingga siswa mempunyai pemahaman yang baik tentang pentingnya kedisiplinan dan ketaatan terhadap aturan dan norma yang berlaku. Penanaman karakter disiplin dapat dilakukan melalui kegiatan-kegiatan di sekolah, salah satunya kegiatan ekstrakurikuler Paskibra (Pasukan Pengibar Bendera). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui upaya penanaman karakter disiplin melalui kegiatan ekstrakurikuler Paskibra beserta hambatan dalam penanaman karakter disiplin melalui kegiatan ekstrakurikuler Paskibra. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian dilakukan di SMA Negeri 3 Purwakarta. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Teknik keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Upaya penanaman karakter disiplin melalui kegiatan ekstrakurikuler Paskibra di SMA Negeri 3 Purwakarta dapat dilakukan dengan cara-cara mendidik yang diberikan oleh pelatih maupun pembina Paskibra, antara lain dapat dilakukan melalui, pengajaran, memberikan contoh/keteladanan, pembiasaan, hukuman, laku, serta pengalaman lahir dan batin. 2) Hambatan yang terjadi dalam penanaman karakter disiplin melalui kegiatan ekstrakurikuler Paskibra yaitu rasa malas dan lelah dalam diri anggota Paskibra, beberapa anggota Paskibra mengikuti ekstrakurikuler, organisasi, atau kegiatan lain di sekolah, serta sebagian orang tua sulit memberikan izin anggota mengikuti kegiatan Paskibra

    Setiap siswa harus berperilaku baik sesuai norma dan aturan, sehingga karakter integritas penting untuk mengontrol tingkah laku. Pembentukan karakter ini tidak hanya melalui kegiatan kurikuler, tetapi juga melalui kegiatan lain di sekolah, seperti pembiasaan terpadu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bentuk penguatan pendidikan karakter integritas melalui pembiasaan terpadu di SMP Negeri 12 Semarang serta faktor pendukung dan penghambatnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan fokus penelitian yaitu penguatan pendidikan karakter integritas melalui pembiasaan terpadu yang dilaksanakan setiap hari selasa. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penguatan karakter integritas di SMP Negeri 12 Semarang dilakukan secara sistematis melalui pembiasaan harian dengan tema berbeda dan dua program utama, yaitu ATIBOPO dan Lorong Integritas. Evaluasi menunjukkan dampak positif, seperti meningkatnya kesadaran siswa akan integritas, yang tercermin dalam kegiatan seperti Diary Kejujuran. Keberhasilan program ini didukung oleh faktor internal, seperti peran kepala sekolah, komitmen guru, dan motivasi siswa, serta faktor eksternal, seperti dukungan keluarga dan masyarakat. Namun, terdapat hambatan, baik internal, seperti perbedaan karakter siswa dan keterbatasan fasilitas, maupun eksternal, seperti kurangnya perhatian keluarga dan pengaruh negatif lingkungan

    Reducing Math Anxiety and Strengthening STEM Pathways: A Conceptual-Pedagogical Approach

    The development of skills among students in STEM fields is not only a pressing concern in countries like India and South Africa — it is a universal need. In an increasingly technology-driven world, building cognitive strength, attention capacity, and analytical reasoning from an early age has become a foundational requirement in education. While both India and South Africa have made progress in schooling, significant challenges remain, particularly in nurturing the critical thinking disposition among learners. This paper compares the two systems to observe visible gaps, especially in high school education, and examines how these gaps begin forming as early as childhood. The idea of learning through the body, particularly through the use of fingers, is explored with the support of Vedic mathematical techniques. A three-stage pedagogical approach is proposed, which not only introduces number concepts at an early age but also builds a bridge between the concrete and the abstract. This organic and tactile method reduces mathematics anxiety and fosters resilience. The Indian school system’s restriction on calculator use until Grade 12 is noted to preserve cognitive engagement, whereas early reliance on calculators in South Africa may unintentionally hinder analytical development. This paper ultimately suggests that using one’s own body as a natural learning tool not only improves numerical fluency but also cultivates a stronger critical thinking disposition, which is essential for solving the larger issue of STEM skill shortages in the future

    Relational Thinking Test Instrument Analysis: Transition from Arithmetic to Algebra

    Relational thinking, a cognitive approach bridging arithmetic thinking and algebraic thinking, has been developed by numerous researchers through mathematics learning processes to address students\u27 difficulties in learning algebra. This study aims to develop a relational thinking test instrument for students and conduct both quantitative and qualitative analyses to measure relational thinking abilities in a valid and reliable manner. The research methodology adapts the development model proposed by Gall and Borg (2003) regarding the process of developing and validating products (test instruments), involving 64 seventh-grade students. Data analysis involved validity and reliability tests as well as analysis of students\u27 written responses. The results indicate that the test instrument is valid (except for test item P8) and reliable, with a coefficient of α = 0.69 (high). Revisions were made to several items that were invalid or less valid based on quantitative and qualitative analysis. The revised instrument can be considered a good relational thinking test instrument, though it is recommended to support it with non-test results (such as interviews) to enhance accuracy and observe students\u27 thinking consistency
