    Optimizing CAD Pattern Making Learning Through the Development of Video Learning Media in the Family Welfare Education Study Program

    The use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software in fashion pattern making, particularly CAD Pattern Making, provides opportunities for students to develop their digital design skills. However, not all students are able to understand the pattern making process, such as camisole patterns using the CAD Pattern Making application. Most students experience difficulties in applying theory to practice and feel less confident due to limited references on the use of these tools and software. This study aims to develop video learning media as a medium in CAD Pattern Making courses to minimize the difficulties students face in understanding the concepts and practices of pattern making. This study uses a qualitative approach with 30 third-semester students from the Family Welfare Education Study Program as research subjects. Data collection techniques included interviews, observations, direct observation, and activity documentation. The learning videos developed covered several key elements, including: learning objectives, introduction to the features or tools used, steps for making patterns, and practical tips for making digital camisole patterns. The results of the study indicate that instructional videos can optimize the practical learning process. Students find it easier to understand the use of software features, such as point determination, measurement, line joining, and pattern simulation. These findings indicate that visual media are more effective than lectures or printed teaching materials in explaining the technical concepts of CAD Pattern Making

    Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy through Banyuwangi Artsin Elementary Education

    This study presents the design and development of a culturally sustaining pedagogical model in elementary education by integrating Banyuwangi’s traditional arts into a thematic learning framework. Using a Design-Based Research (DBR) methodology, this study systematically develops, tests, and refines an instructional model incorporating traditional arts such as the Gandrung and Barong dances and culturally resonant learning media like puzzles, multimedia, and puppets. This approach emphasizes character development alongside academic learning, fostering values such as empathy, respect, and cultural identity. The model incorporates culturally resonant media—including puzzles, multimedia, and puppets—featuring iconic local characters, Tole and Jebeng, to engage students and connect lessons to their cultural heritage. Observational data from classroom applications reveal enhanced student motivation, social identity, and moral reasoning. Teachers and educational experts rated the model highly for its feasibility, relevance, and impact on character and cognitive development. Despite challenges such as the need for specialized teacher training and scalability across diverse cultural contexts, the findings underscore the transformative potential of integrating local arts into educational curricula. This research contributes to the discourse on culturally responsive education by providing a replicable framework that aligns academic rigor with the preservation of cultural heritage, equipping students with essential values for navigating a globalized world. Future work is recommended to evaluate long-term impacts and adaptations for broader cultural settings

    Symbolism of the Ideology of Javanese Knights Based on the Iconography of the Visual Form of Punakawan in Javanese Wayang Purwa

    Wayang purwa is a product of Javanese culture which constructs a world of symbols. The depiction of wayang figures does not represent human figures but the symbolisation of human characters and qualities. The research goal is to reveal hidden messages of the four punakawan wayang: Sêmar, Garèng, Pétruk, and Bagong, who are loyal followers of Arjuna in Javanese wayang purwa. Javanese puppets are indeed sourced from Mahabharata, but the four figures are additional figures from the creators. The research method is explorative qualitative and based on iconographical theory. The results of the study show that Sêmar symbolises ‘spirituality’, a Javanese knight must have a high level of spirituality; Garèng symbolises ‘personal awareness’, a knight must have awareness as an imperfect being; Pétruk symbolises a ‘visionary’, a knight must be able to look far into the future, and Bagong symbolise ‘holistic awareness’, a knight must also have empathy for his surroundings. Wayang should be understood as a world of symbols, but positioning the iconography of wayang from a representation of a human figure to the symbolisation of ‘character and aptitude’ is an ‘extreme interpretation’ within the boundaries of an interpretative study. This is a way of understanding Javanese culture in a cosmological context; what appears is not real because what is essential is invisible

    Penggunaan teknologi dalam sistem pembayaran telah menjadi kebutuhan penting bagi pelaku Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) kuliner di era digital. Salah satu inovasi yang banyak digunakan adalah Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), yang menawarkan kemudahan dan efisiensi dalam transaksi. Namun, tingkat kepuasan penjual terhadap penggunaan QRIS masih menjadi pertanyaan yang perlu dijawab melalui kajian mendalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi kepuasan penjual UMKM kuliner terhadap penggunaan QRIS. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner yang dibagikan kepada penjual UMKM kuliner. Variabel penelitian terfokus pada kepuasan pengguna QRIS yang dianalisis menggunakan model statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor-faktor seperti kemudahan penggunaan, kecepatan transaksi, dan keamanan data memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap tingkat kepuasan penjual. Secara keseluruhan, mayoritas responden merasa puas dengan penggunaan QRIS, dengan nilai kepuasan berada pada kategori tinggi. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi dalam memahami kebutuhan penjual UMKM terhadap sistem pembayaran digital dan memberikan masukan bagi pengembang teknologi pembayaran untuk terus meningkatkan fitur dan pelayanan QRIS

    Numeric–Phenetic Study of Lablab purpureus from East Java Based on Morphology Character and DNA Fingerprinting

    This research aims to conduct a numeric–phenetic study of Lablab purpureus (L) Sweet based on morphology character and DNA fingerprinting with cophenetic–correlation algorithm confirmation. DNA genome extraction is based on the Blood Animal Plant DNA Preparation Kit. Ten RAPD primers were chosen for the amplification DNA genome, including OPA-6, OPA-8, OPA-10, OPA-20, OPC-19, OPD-8, OPD-12, OPE-8, OPE-15, and OPE-16. Cophenetic correlation is used to analyze three clustering algorithms (Nearest Neighbor, UPGMA, Farthest Neighbor) and five similarity indexes (Simple Matching, Jaccard, Nei & Li, Sorensen, Yule). Lablab purpureus (L) Sweet samples have shown morphology variation, mostly on flowers, pods, and seeds. DNA fingerprinting reveals a variety of band numbers ranging from 300BP to 1000BP. RAPD analysis revealed a total of 87 bands, including 18 polymorphic bands, with an average percentage polymorphism of 31.15%. The UPGMA technique was developed as a result of cophenetic-correlation analysis, and the Jaccard similarity index is the optimal combination for dendrogram generation. The topology of a morphology character dendrogram differs slightly from that of a DNA fingerprinting dendrogram. It concluded that the UPGMA algorithm and Jaccard similarity index is the optimum combination to analyze the diversity of L. purpureus (L) Sweet accession from East Java, resulting in the accession of this species having high diversity. This research can give a novel approaching method in the taxonomy field, which is combining morphological and molecular data

    Selection of Potential Lignin-Degrading Bacteria and Fungi Isolates from the Gunung Lumut and Sungai Wain in East Kalimantan

    The enzymes laccase (Lac), manganese peroxidase (MnP), and lignin peroxidase (LiP) are ligninolytic enzyme groups that have a crucial role in degrading lignin compounds. These complex components are abundant in plant biomass. This research aims to isolate and characterize microorganisms producing the enzymes Lac, MnP, and LiP from leaf litter, rhizosphere soil, and sediment in the Gunung Lumut Protected Forest (GLPF) and Sungai Wain Protected Forest (SWPF), East Kalimantan. The bacterial and fungal isolates obtained were cultured on NA and PDA media enriched with 0.05% guaiacol as a substrate. Initial selection was carried out based on the colony growth rate and the formation of a brownish discoloration zone, which indicates ligninolytic enzyme activity. The superior isolates were then tested for extracellular enzyme activity quantitatively using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Among the bacterial isolates, the highest Lac activity is isolated GLS 5.1.2 (173.44 U L-1); the highest MnP activity is isolated GLS 5.3 (177.41 U L-1); and the highest LiP activity is isolated GLS 5.1.2 (1034.05 U L-1). In the group of fungi, isolate SS2 was detected with the highest Lac activity (20.66 U L-1), MnP activity (333.75 U L-1), and LiP activity (2516.13 U L-1). Biodiversity sources in the Gunung Lumut Protected Forest (GLPF) and Sungai Wain Protected Forest (SWPF), East Kalimantan have the potential to produce microbial isolates with unique enzymatic characteristics that have never been reported before. The resulting microbial isolate can be used as a bioactivator in composting organic waste to produce high-quality organic fertilizer

    Coastal Erosion Reduces Resilience and Disrupts Compositional Dynamics of The Mangrove Ecosystem

    Indonesia’s coastline, particularly Kendal Regency in Central Java, faces critical mangrove degradation due to land-use changes and rising sea levels. This study aims to asses the condition and erosion impacting Kendal\u27s mangrove ecosystems to inform future conservation strategies. Using remote sensing technology, multi-spatial and multi-temporal imagery from 2005–2023 was analyzed and validated with field observations to evaluate mangrove species composition, structure, and land changes. The mangrove area increased by 52% in three locations, with the Bodri River delta (Pidodo Kulon and Pidodo Wetan villages) showing the most significant growth at 76.69 hectares. Ngebum Beach (Mororejo) had the largest proportional increase, reaching 185%. The ecosystems are moderately diverse, containing at least 11 mangrove species, though Rhizophora dominates due to extensive planting efforts. Despite stable conditions, these ecosystems face threats from deforestation for aquaculture, the primary driver of land erosion, compounded by rising sea levels. Although mangrove areas have expanded significantly, ongoing challenges include erosion, anthropogenic pressures, and limited species diversity. Future strategies must involve multi-stakeholder collaboration to implement sustainable practices, promote species diversity, develop erosion mitigation models, and conduct awareness campaigns to ensure the resilience of Kendal’s mangrove ecosystems

    First Record of Free-Living Nematode Ironus dentifurcatus Argo & Heyns, 1972 (Ironidae: Enoplida) From Indonesia

    Free-living nematodes often serve as the bioindicators of environmental quality. These nematodes are highly sensitive to even minute changes in the environment. Studies related to the presence of free-living nematodes have flourished, but to date, only a few studies have investigated the morphological and molecular characterization of free-living nematodes from agroecosystems in Indonesia. This study aimed to characterize the free-living nematode Ironus spp. from the rhizosphere of Arabica coffee plants in Bondowoso Regency, Indonesia. Nematodes were extracted from the soil using the white-head tray method and then preserved in a DESS solution to maintain their morphology and DNA. The morphometric analysis of Ironus species obtained in this study showed that the nematode species is identical to Ironus dentifurcatus. The small subunit (SSU) region of rDNA of the nematode was successfully amplified using primers (SSU F07 and SSU R 81). The results of phylogenetic analysis and sequence homology showed that the sequence in this study showed up to 95% homology to Ironus spp. In the database. This is the first study documenting I. dentifurcatus in Indonesia that integrates morphological and molecular characterization

    Correlation of Human Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase Promoter (hTERT) Gene Methylation and Ageing

    Promoter methylation of the hTERT gene in blood DNA has been proposed to be an epigenetic molecular clock because it is negatively correlated with ageing. Saliva is an alternative source of DNA because it contains buccal cells. Currently, the correlation of hTERT promoter methylation and ageing using saliva is not known. This study aimed to determine: first, the correlation between hTERT promoter methylation and ageing in saliva, as a source of non-invasive DNA sampling, instead of blood was determined. Second, the influence of sex on the methylation of the hTERT promoter in ageing was evaluated. A cross-sectional study design was used, and 119 subjects were recruited, consisting of 25 children (1-5 y.o), 42 teens (17-19 y.o), 16 adults (20-50 y.o), and 36 elderly (60 to 84 y.o). Promoter methylation of the hTERT of extracted DNA was determined using the MSRE (methyl-specific restriction enzyme) method. The relationship between age and the percentage of hTERT methylation was assessed using the Pearson test. The percentage of hTERT methylation in saliva DNA was negatively correlated with age r= -0.4305 (p-value <0.05). Negative correlation was also found in men (r= -0.376) and women (r=-0.43). Negative correlation between hTERT and ageing has been confirmed in saliva as a noninvasive sampling method. The benefit of this research in ethical and social considerations may encourage a greater participation in ageing research, particularly in underprivileged communities, thus democratising access to scientific advancements in longevity studies

    Quantitative Literacy-based Laboratory Activity Design on the Effect of Color Spectra on Photosynthetic Rate

    The Ingenhousz photosynthesis experiment conducted in schools aims to verify the concept of plants producing oxygen. However, opportunities to develop students’ quantitative literacy and train science process skills (SPSs) remain limited, as photosynthesis experiments commonly employed in schools are predominantly qualitative. This research aimed to develop an alternative photosynthesis laboratory activity design (LAD) based on an analysis of existing LADs to enhance students’ quantitative literacy and SPSs. Using the Research and Development (R&D) method, this research focused on the effect of color spectra on photosynthetic rate—an aspect that presents novelty of this research. The existing LADs were analyzed in terms of relevance, competence, knowledge construction, and practical aspects, resulting in 83.3% (very good), 43.1% (fair), 58.3% (fair), and 55.6% (fair), respectively. The analysis results of these four aspects are the basis for developing the alternative LAD. The alternative LAD was developed and then validated, resulting in a validity value of 0.915, which is categorized as valid. The alternative LAD trial demonstrated that it can collect quantitative data and enhance students’ quantitative literacy and SPSs, with the blue light spectrum producing the highest photosynthetic rate at 0.4 ml/g. The quantitative literacy-based LAD fosters data-driven thinking crucial for future scientific inquiry. This supports cultivating more analytically skilled students equipped to face real-world environmental and scientific challenges
