    The PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS OF IMPLICATURE IN “THE PRINCESS DIARIES VOLUME IV: PRINCESS IN WAITING” NOVEL BY MEG CABOT

    The communication or interaction with implicit meaning can be found in a literary work, such as a novel. This study aims to focus on the pragmatic analysis of implicature contained in the novel The Princess Diaries Volume IV: Princess In Waiting by Meg Cabot, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller for adults and teens. The implicature studied is the type, meaning, and function of the implicature. In addition, this study also intends to find out what implicit meaning or context exists in the novel. The data collection technique uses document analysis by reading the novel The Princess Diaries Volume IV repeatedly and data analysis using content analysis where all the data obtained will be organized through tables with pre-made coding. The results show that most of the sentences and conversations that occur in the character Mia and supporting characters such as Grandma, Tina, and Lilly in the novel The Princess Diaries Volume IV: Princess In Waiting contains assertive and expressive and has two types of implicature, namely conventional implicature and conversational implicature

    Du potentiel des Grandes Structures Urbaines Abandonnées / On the potential of large urban abandoned structures

    Bâtiment abandonné, ruine moderne, fantôme urbain, squelette immobilier, structure désaffectée… Une variété d’appellations pour tenter de circonscrire, au moins par les mots, le phénomène d’abandon de fragments entiers de villes. Cet abandon, qu’il soit partiel ou total, temporaire ou durable, est examiné ici au prisme du « potentiel » que pourrait représenter la survivance de ces structures. Ciblant 12 études de cas, cette première édition des Cahiers du Laboratoire d’Étude de l’Architecture Potentielle (LEAP) convoque autour de cette thématique la discipline architecturale, l’histoire de l’art et la sémiotique. De Montréal à Berlin, de Détroit à Turin, la variété des contributions est organisée autour de quatre tensions interrogeant le statut de ces structures (monumentalité/monument), leur échelle (architecture/urbanisme), les figures qu’elles cristallisent (utopie/ruine) et les imaginaires qui s’y développent (résistances/potentiels). Les auteurs le montrent : les grandes structures urbaines abandonnées, loin d’être condamnées à l’inertie, sont des vecteurs de mémoire collective, de projets potentiels, d’imaginaires multiples, mais aussi de réévaluation critique de nos sociétés contemporaines. Dès lors, la grande structure urbaine abandonnée ne peut plus seulement être du ressort de l’économie ou de la planification foncière : l’entrelacement complexe des dimensions matérielles, techniques, sociales et culturelles la constituant invite les architectes à investir les réflexions portant sur sa survivance.ALICELI

    Magnetic field penetration in MgB2 single crystals: Pinning and Meissner holes

    The evolution of flux distribution in MgB2 single crystals during their remagnetization was imaged with magneto-optical technique. Meissner holes, formed as the areas where the annihilation of vortices and antivortices takes place, were found at the boundary between oppositely magnetized parts of the crystal. Gradient of magnetic induction in the vicinity of Meissner holes was found to be enhanced. Finger-like structures of convex shape, formed during the penetration of magnetic flux inside the crystal, were observed and explained as an effect of inhomogeneous pinning and demagnetizing field redistribution in the sample.     A Local Nonlinear Model for the Approximation and Identification of a Class of Systems

    Based on Volterra series the work presents a novel local nonlinear model of a certain class of linear-analytic systems. The special form of the expressions for the Laplace-domain Volterra kernels of such systems is exploited to obtain an approximation structure that results in an appealingly simple feed-forward block structure. It comprises a composition of the linearization and the multivariate nonlinear function of the original system. Although based on Volterra series the model does not involve a truncation in the power series expansion nor in the memory depths. Compared to the exponential increase in parameters of classical memory truncated Volterra models, the structure offers an economic parametrization. The model is shown to be linear identifiable in one step if a priori information about the linearized dynamics is provided. We present simulation results for a simple nonlinear circuit showing the validity of the model.LANO
