Maghreb Literature and the Responsibility of Its Writers to Denounce Injustice and Silence From a Low Angle, M. Dib’s L’Incendie

    No full text
To what extent does a true writer truly know who he is? No longer just an author, but a writer; a living, awake conscience, torn between commitment and activism. A visionary spirit who knows he is at the service of the community; a mirror to the world that constantly slaps back the insolent events that inevitably characterize historical gigantism. In such a context, could Dib be anything other than an “arsonist”? A man of good will; an open mind, certainly, but absolutely critical.

Marks of Africanness in Kamel Daoud’s Meursault contre-enquête Collective Memory in Question

    No full text
Africanness is defined as a set of cultural, historical, and social characteristics specific to African peoples. In the postcolonial context, it is strongly manifested in Maghreb literature, particularly through collective memory, orality, and local traditions. Kamel Daoud’s Meursault, contre-enquête embodies this dynamic by offering a rewriting of Camus’s L’Étranger, in which the voice of the Arab victim’s brother, previously anonymous, is rehabilitated. The novel thus becomes an act of identity and historical reappropriation, denouncing the erasure of the colonized in dominant narratives. This study adopts a qualitative approach, based on textual analysis and thematic interpretation of the novel. It focuses on the presence of orality, the transmission of collective memory, and North African cultural references. By mobilizing postcolonial theories, the analysis shows how Kamel Daoud inscribes an African perspective in his narrative. Writing thus becomes a means of resistance, preservation of memory, and affirmation of identity. In Meursault, contre-enquête, Kamel Daoud opposes the forgetting and indifference present in Camus’s L’Étranger. By rewriting the story of the Arab’s murder, he gives voice to Moussa, a figure erased by the colonial narrative. The novel values orality and collective memory, essential elements of Africanness, placing the story within a broader postcolonial tradition. Through a hybridized French language and symbolic places such as the city, the sea, and the cemetery, Daoud questions the colonial legacy and affirms an African identity rooted in memory. The study highlights Africanness as a key to interpreting the novel, drawing on memory, oral tradition, and North African culture. Finally, it opens up avenues of research on the role of space as a bearer of postcolonial memory and meaning in the construction of African identity.L’africanité se définit comme un ensemble de caractéristiques culturelles, historiques et sociales propres aux peuples africains.

The Identity-Accent A Factor in the Hierarchization of Dominated Varieties

    No full text
The process of expressing its affiliation to a linguistic community sharing the same norms (linguistic, cultural, etc.) could be very well expressed through the accent. In this case, it would be more appropriate to speak about an identity-accent: an accent that performs as an identity marker. This hypothesis is established in the context of a study concerning the Laghouati accent (an Algerian variety of academic Arabic), which considers the latter a factor in the hierarchy of varieties in contact, which are established in what we call horizontal power relations. The verification of this hypothesis is carried out through two sociolinguistic surveys which question the representa-tions/attitudes of the Laghouati speakers on several aspects of their variety and the other varieties in contact. The results of these surveys showed that the accent could in fact transcend its linguistic limits and play a fundamental role in the description of the concepts of identity (individual and/or collective) and linguistic communityL’acte de manifester son appartenance à une communauté linguistique partageant les mêmes normes (linguistiques, culturelles, etc.) pourrait très bien s’exprimer à travers l’accent.

A Refined Psycholinguistic Analysis of Non-verbal Communication in Uzbek and French Cultures From Cultural Specificity to Intercultural Interaction

    No full text
The study of psycholinguistic aspects of non-verbal communica-tion in the Uzbek and French linguistic contexts provides a detailed compa-rative analysis to uncover both the unique and common features of non-verbal communication within these two cultures. The research pays particular attention to the similarities and differences in the use of gestures, facial expressions, spatial dynamics, and paralinguistic cues. It also examines how cultural specificity shapes non-verbal communication and how this under-standing can be leveraged to improve intercultural interactions. Furthermore, the study explores the impact of intercultural differences, contextual factors, and the personal traits of communicators in decoding and accurately interpreting non-verbal signals.

Can we really describe autism on a spectrum? Continuity or Discontinuity

    No full text
The notion of “autism spectrum disorder” (ASD) is examined in the light of three types of data: the diversity of clinical forms, the variety of evolutions and developmental pathway. The idea that we can order these shapes on a single dimension is worth discussing. Indeed, the importance of the differences between two extreme forms such as “frank autism” and “profound autism” singularly calls into question the unity of autism as it is defined today. These differences concern symptomatology, developmental trajectories and specifiers. The question that future nosography will therefore have to address is the problem of continuity or discontinuity between these clinical forms.

Measuring the Sources of Inflation in the Algerian Economy During the Period 1990–2023.

This study aims to analyze the determinants of inflation in the Algerian economy during the period 1990–2023 using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to explore both short- and long-run relationships. The analysis relies on official annual data and includes three explanatory variables: the rediscount rate, trade openness, and money supply growth, with the inflation rate as the dependent variable. The results reveal a long-run equilibrium relationship between inflation and these variables. Both the rediscount rate and money supply growth have a positive effect on inflation, while trade openness helps mitigate inflationary pressures. The Error Correction Model (ECM) indicates a short-run adjustment speed of approximately 70.66%, reflecting a relatively quick correction of short-term deviations. The study concludes that the rediscount rate is limited in effectiveness as a monetary policy tool to control inflation. It recommends coordinated fiscal and monetary policies, structural reforms, and expanding productive trade openness to stabilize prices and promote sustainable economic growth

The Dynamics of the Euro-dollar exchange rate, and it’s Impact on Algerian Imports from the Euro Zone

The objective of this research is to estimate the exchange rate Pass-Through of the USdollar on the Algerian imports. This impact is particularly important in the case of imports fromeuro area countries. By 2015, Algerian imports from the euro area countries represent $ 22 billion.Half of this invoice is denominated in foreign currency. Algerian imports are exposed to foreignexchange risk since Algerian foreign exchange earnings come exclusively from hydrocarbonexports and are denominated in US dollars. Our model is based on the import demand function ofAlgeria between 1992 and 2015. Our estimates of the impact of the dollar-euro exchange ratereturns on Algerian imports show that the depreciation of the US dollar leads to a significantincrease of the value of imports. There is a total transmission of the Dollar-Euro movement to thevalues of Algerian imports, particularly that coming from Spain, Germany and Belgiu
