Isatis tinctoria & Indigo; A Spatiotemporal Culture in France and Elsewhere-Historical Review
International audienceThis article is a summary of the historical background to Isatis tinctoria in France and elsewhere from the 12 th to the 21 st century. Isatis tinctoria, also called "Guède", "Pastel" or "Vouède" according to the French region origin, is a plant originally used to obtain indigo blue dye mainly to produce colored blue fabrics. A local memory is well established in the Amiens region (northern France) and the Toulouse region (south-western France). No global review of its culture and trade over the long term is known. The aim of this article is to summarize the historical background of Isatis tinctoria in France and elsewhere from the twelfth to the twenty-first century

Quantum Coherent Transport of 1D ballistic states in second order topological insulator BiBr
Main text and Supplemental materialWe investigate quantum transport in micrometer-sized single crystals of BiBr, a material predicted to be a second-order topological insulator. 1D topological states with long phase coherence times are revealed via the modulation of quantum interferences with magnetic field and gate voltage. In particular, we demonstrate the existence of Aharanov-Bohm interference between 1D ballistic states several micrometers long, that we identify as phase-coherent hinge modes on neighbouring step edges at the crystal surface. These Aharanov-Bohm interferences are made possible by a disordered phase-coherent contact region, the existence of which is confirmed by STEM/EDX imaging of FIB lamellae. Their coherent nature modulates the transmission of the 1D edge states, leading to weak antilocalization and universal conductance fluctuations with surprisingly large characteristic fields and a strongly anisotropic behavior. These complementary experimental results provide a comprehensive, coherent description of quantum transport in BiBr, and establishes the material as belonging to the class of second-order topological insulators with topologically protected 1D ballistic states
International audienceThis study explores the relationship between food choices and socioeconomic precarity. A sample of 120 participants from the general population completed a questionnaire assessing precarity (EPICES scale, Mayer, 2018), food choices (Food Choices Values, Lyerly et al., 2015), food literacy (Begley et al., 2018), and social representations of food (Abric, 2001).Linear regression analyses indicate that precarity increases the importance of accessibility (both physical and financial), convenience (ease of preparation), and emotional comfort in food choices.First, we examined whether this effect could be explained by food literacy. No direct association was found between precarity and overall food literacy levels. However, specific skills—particularly planning (e.g., grocery list, meal organization) and food selection (e.g., consideration of nutritional labels)—positively influence health-oriented food choices. Planning behaviors are linked to a preference for nutrient- and vitamin-rich foods as well as organic products. Additionally, selection skills enhance the value placed on food safety, health, and weight management in food choices.Second, we analyzed the role of social representations of food. Our results indicate differences based on precarity. Regarding “healthy eating,” people in precarious situations associate it with more abstract concepts (e.g., origin, locality), whereas non-precarious individuals refer to more concrete elements (e.g., fiber, salads, unprocessed foods). Regarding “unhealthy eating,” precarious individuals primarily link it to physical consequences (e.g., obesity) and food safety issues (e.g., poor quality, low safety), while non-precarious individuals associate it with mental health concerns. The analysis of the valence of social representations shows a general consensus on the positive perception of healthy eating. However, precariousness is associated with a more favorable evaluation of unhealthy eating, despite its connection to negative physical consequences and lower food safety. Furthermore, a more positive perception of unhealthy eating is correlated with an increased preference for food choices based on emotional comfort. Thus, our findings suggest that socioeconomic precarity influences food choices toward convenience, accessibility, and emotional comfort, and that this effect may be partially explained by differences in social representations of food. These representations appear to be a relevant factor to consider both in research and field interventions. Finally, although food literacy is not directly associated with precarity, it remains a valuable tool for psychosocial interventions aimed at promoting healthier food choices.
Essential Work, Migrant Labour: What Explains Migrant Employment in European Key Sectors?
Amidst the COVID-19 lockdowns, it became obvious that migrants play a critical role in economic sectors that are essential to the functioning of everyday life. Are they over-represented in these sectors, and how is the use of migrant labour linked to structural factors in the provision of essential services? Using micro data from the EU Labour Force Survey 2011-2020 for 17 countries, we measure the difference in the probability of working in key sectors for various types of migrants relative to similar natives across countries of destination. We find that in most countries, migrants are over-represented with respect to native-born workers after accounting for individual characteristics. This arises especially for Italy, the Nordic countries and the United Kingdom. Migrants who are female, migrated after the age of 15, spent less time at destination or were born in non-EU countries are much more likely to work in key sectors than the native-born. Investigating structural factors, we establish strong and robust correlations between migrants’ over-representation and precarious job conditions, autonomy at work, wages, occupational prestige as well as public attitudes to migrants

Optimizing Enantiomeric Resolution of Chiral Triazoles in Supercritical Fluid Chromatography
International audienceChirality plays a crucial role in the pharmacological activity of triazoles, a key scaffold in antifungal agents and various therapeutic applications. This study focuses on optimizing the enantiomeric resolution of chiral triazoles using supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and 10 different columns, either immobilized or coated, chlorinated or nonchlorinated, cellulose or amylose‐based chiral stationary phases (CSPs). Four novel triazoles and two marketed ones (tebuconazole and hexaconazole) were separated to determine optimal resolution conditions. The best resolution was achieved using chlorinated amylose‐based CSPs across the tested compounds. Optical rotation and X‐ray crystallography were employed to determine the absolute configurations of the purified enantiomers
