Recommandations du jury de la conférence de consensus sur l’interprétation et la communication des scores en neuropsychologie (Paris, 22 novembre 2024)
International audienceCe document propose une série de 12 recommandations à la suite de la Conférence de consensus organisée à Paris le 22 novembre 2024 à l’initiative de la Société de neuropsychologie de langue Française (SNLF), l’Organisation française des psychologues spécialisés en neuropsychologie (OFPN), le Groupe de réflexion sur les évaluations cognitives (Greco) en partenariat avec différents chercheurs et cliniciens de France, Belgique et Suisse. Les recommandations rappellent les facteurs à prendre en compte pour la détermination des seuils de signification statistique. Elles proposent des seuils pour identifier les scores extrêmes lors d’une évaluation psychométrique et des termes descriptifs pour qualifier ces scores. Les présentes recommandations ont pour but d’encourager les praticiens à privilégier de bonnes pratiques psychométriques et de les aider à surmonter les problèmes de communication entre professionnels et à l’égard des patients

Police homicides and riots in France
International audienceStreet riots often follow police killings of citizens. Yet, the majority of police killings do not lead to riots. Why do some police homicides lead to riots while others do not? This paper analyzes the intensity of riots in France using monthly data on arsons targeting private property at the department (sub-regional) level from January 1996 to August 2022 (N = 32,080), in relation to an original dataset on the occurrence and characteristics of police homicides. The results suggest that police homicides have a small overall effect on riots: fewer than 0.3% of arsons in a given department can be attributed to police killings in that department. While most police homicides do not have the potential to trigger riots, certain characteristics significantly increase the likelihood that a riot will occur: the victim has a non-European migratory background, is a French citizen, and the perpetrators belong to specific police forces. The impact also increases when there are multiple victims. We provide suggestive evidence that identification with the victim plays a key role among potential rioters, as does the social integration of the victim
Modeling Mechanical Micro-instabilities in Biophysics and Materials Science
International audienceFrom biophysics to materials science, mechanical micro-instabilities play a central role in a multitude of materials and structures (adhesion, fracture, friction, phase transformations and so on). Although these systems are very different in length-scale, time-scale and morphology, they are all composed of a number of units that exhibit two or more equilibrium states and can switch from one to another. Schematically, we can identify two main classes of micro-instabilities in these multi-stable systems. On the one hand, we may observe a bi-stable behavior between one ground state and one metastable state, being these two states different, yet mechanically resistant conformations. For instance, in this class can be inscribed conformational (folded to unfolded) transitions in polymers or macromolecules (mostly proteins), and martensitic phase transformations in metallic alloys and nanowires. On the other hand, the second class corresponds to transitions between unbroken and broken states of breakable units of the system. This process can be reversible, partly reversible or irreversible according to the specific physical phenomenon. Examples of this scheme include unzipping of DNA or RNA hairpins, denaturation of macromolecules, biological adhesion, peeling of films in nanotechnology, and fracture phenomena in mechanics of materials. In this review, we offer a description of phenomena related to these mechanical micro-instabilities, ranging from biophysics to materials science. After presenting an overview of typical examples in both contexts, physical-mathematical approaches suitable for modeling and predicting the behavior of these systems will be introduced.
