Serbskie kręgi finansowe w Chorwacji na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Kontekst społeczno-polityczny

    Get PDF
The article decribes the circumstances of the emergence of the Serbian financial elites within the autonomous Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia at the turn of the 19th century, taking into consideration the circles which provided financial and credit services at that time. The role of the Serbian financial elites is discussed from the perspective of their economic activity, social and political affiliations. The discussion includes the context of the dual autonomy in the legal and political field, which regulated the status of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia, the Patriarchate of Karlovci, and determined the overall situation of the Orthodox Serbs. The reflection on the influence of the financial elites on the social and political modernisation processes among the Serbian population of the then Croatian autonomy is created on the basis of the The Serbian Bank in Zagreb programme assumptions (Srpska banka; 1895–1918), which was the most prominent financial establishment associated with the Serbian capital within Austria-Hungary.W artykule zostały przedstawione okoliczności, w których doszło do wykrystalizowania się serbskich elit finansowych w autonomicznym Królestwie Chorwacji i Sławonii, na przełomie XIX i XX wieku.

The text discusses the importance of the Hemos mountain range (nowadays including Pre-Balkan, Stara Planina and Sredna Gora massifs) which separated the core territory of the early medieval Bulgaria in the North from the Byzantine lands in the South (almost through the entire so-called pagan or barbarian period of the Bulgarian state, i.e. from the end of 7th to the middle of 9th centuries), and divided the state in two geographically separated territories during the rest part of the existence of the so-called First Bulgarian Empire (from the second half of the 9th to the end of 10th and beginning of 11th centuries). The source investigation shows that especially during the first half of the period in consideration – the mentioned pagan (barbarian) period – the mountains really acted, to a certain degree, as a barrier for the Byzantine influences on the Bulgarians. That was because of the ideological (political) and religious differences between both the states. Wynikało to z różnic ideologicznych (politycznych) i konfesyjnych pomiędzy oboma państwami

Misja Sędziwoja z Szubina do Zadaru. Epizod z czasów bezkrólewia w Polsce 1382-1384

The article concerns one of the most mysterious and exciting episodes from the Interregnum after the death of Polish and Hungarian king Louis of Anjou in September 1382. The voivode of Kalisz Sędziwój of Szubin went to Hungary to bring to Poland the daughter of the deceased ruler – princess Hedwig, but he did not achieve his aim. He was arrested in Zadar (now in Croatia) together with his companions, while Hungarian queen Elisabeth of Bosnia sent to Poland a young Jan of Tarnów, son of the castellan of Sandomierz with the task of occupying the Wawel castle in Cracow. The author argues that Sędziwój\u27s departure from Cracow, his unfavorable meeting with queen Elisabeth in Zadar and his escape to Poland after his internment happened in 1383. This has a fundamental impact on the perception of this political mission and its significance in the context of Polish-Hungarian relations during this period. Został zatrzymany w Zadarze wraz ze swymi  towarzyszami, natomiast królowa Elżbieta Bośniaczka wysłała do Polski młodego Jana z Tarnowa, syna kasztelana sandomierskiego z zadaniem zajęcia zamku wawelskiego.

Wielkie zło i herezje Eutychesa. Wokół wątku podboju Dalmacji w Latopisie popa Duklanina

The theme of the conquest of Dalmatia by the Goths and their leaders: Totila and Ostroyllus is one of the most extensive and most important narratives within the Chronicle of the Priest of Dioclea. The article discusses the link between this theme and the Dalmatian tradition. It shows how some fragments of the medieval historiography of the region indicate that the legend of the invasion existed earlier than the Chronicle and could have been linked to the story of the assassination of the Croatian king, which we know i. a. from the Croatian version the Chronicle and from the Hungarian-Polish Chronicle. On this basis, some differences between the Latin and the Croatian versions of the Chronicle of the Priest of Dioclea are highlighted and in this context possible origins of the words about the great evil among Christians and about the Eutychian heresy have been given their possible explanation.Wątek podboju Dalmacji przez wodzów Gotów: Totilę i Ostroila należy do najobszerniejszych i najważniejszych narracji w Latopisie popa Duklanina.

    Get PDF
From 1999 Polish and Romanian humanists face each other on conferences in Suceava (Romanian Bucovina) which are part of “Polish Days” in Romania organized by the Association of Poles in Romania. Polish and Romanian historians, ethnographers, sociologists, politologists and linguists deliver lectures and discuss Polish-Romanian contacts and relations in the past and present. from the Polish part many historical lectures concern the interwar period and the problem of Polish refugees in Romania during the World War II. In the period between1918–1945 the relations between Poles and Romanians were rather friendly and now these topics are discussed most frequently. Among the Romanian historians there are more specialists on the relations between Moldova and the Polish Kingdom till the end of 18th century. Many historians focus on the Polish-Romanian relations in the years 1945–1989. Most of the lectures concerning the political present were delivered by the Poles. Cultural sections of the conference concentrate on mutual language influences, Polish–Romanian literature contacts, translations of Polish literature into Romania and Romanian literature into Poland, the analyses of literary works, Polish studies in Romania and Romanian studies in Poland, the perception of Romanian culture among the Poles and vice versa, the problems of religions, education, libraries, music and tourism. Polish etnographers concentrate on the problems of Polish Bucovinians but the most discussed subject is not the history of Polish Bucovinians but their local dialect. Most of the conference lectures were printed. “Polish Days” in Suceava are the most important event organized by the very active Association of Poles in Romania and they help breaking the stereotypes and enhance the integration between the Poles and Romanians.. In general the conferences in Suceava do not have their equivalent in the contacts between humanists of other countries. From 1999 Polish and Romanian humanists face each other on conferences in Suceava (Romanian Bucovina) which are part of “Polish Days” in Romania organized by the Association of Poles in Romania. Vukovar kao primjer multietničkog i podjelenog grada

    No full text
Vukovar is the city in the East Croatia on the border with the Republic of Serbia. In the paper I attempt to show the development of the city, the composition of its population and the relationships between ethnic groups from establishing of Vukovar until the beginning of the Homeland war in 1991. The paper presents the history of the Croat majority and the minorities which were, and which are, present in the city: the Germans, Hungarians, Serbs, Rusyns, Ukrainians, Yews and the Slovaks. From the beginning Vukovar was a multicultural, multiethnic and multiconfessional city thanks to migrations which were present since its establishing, in which the Croats were the majority. After the WWI a large number of Serbs immigrated into this area. The political situation gave them benefits which earlier belonged to Germans and Hungarians. They gained power to rule the city. It became the source of constant tensions between the Serbian and Croatian population in the period of Yugoslavia (1918-1941) and during the WWII (1941-1944). Although the communist Yugoslav authorities were trying to pacify interethnic differences, the escalation of nationalisms brought about the siege and the capture of Vukovar in 1991 by the Serbian troops.Vukovar is the city in the East Croatia on the border with the Republic of Serbia.
